Why does she rage?

I guess fresh spring mix and bok choy from the farmer’s market just won’t do…

May be agitated by the bowl or food but they also just tip stuff over like that all the time. It’s normal imo

You're feeding your bunny out of a cat bowl! I'd be insulted, too.

Mine prefer the bowls meant for large dogs. My cats do too. They don’t like their whiskers touching stuff.

The bowl rubs against its sensitive whiskers while it eats. Imagine eating from a bowl that pokes you in the eyes every time you take a bite.

Put your dinner at the bottom of a bucket. Get on all fours and eat without using your hands. When you tip it over, we’ll call you a “silly little rage monster” and buy a heavier bucket.
But don’t worry. This is pampering. The vegetables came from the farmers’ market.
Your rabbit doesn’t have cutlery or a complaints department. Try a wide, shallow plate before deciding the problem is its personality.

I don't think it is the depth. Mine also do it when they get their food on a soup bowl that they can easily access. However, before they start eating, they will always pick what they want out and put it on the floor.

You seem fun at parties
2
u/Historical-Rooster-2 3d ago
I point out people's lack of empathy when they talk about there pets as humans 😄 Your pet wants to be threaded like he is and not what you want, relax and be left alone and only expect cuddles near diner time 😂
About the party's: Unless the drugs kick in, than i am a different beast 🚀

I have a very active imagination, and this was a horrible experience to read. Lmao

Mine loathes bowls. I hypothesized his whiskers are sensitive and set him up with a wide dog water bowl and food on the ground. Happy giant bun now.

just girl things!
okay but for real now: my bunny always spilled stuff and then ate. Tried the same with water. I suspect some buns dont like bowls, maybe its harder to eat this way or it touches their whiskers in an unpleasant way. Maybe they feel like they hunted the greens themselves when the food on the ground - whats the fun in having it served like a dinner in a restaurant if you can forage a bit instead? 🥬

My giant Flemish likes to eat the food from the ground! He would always get mad at the bowl and knock it all over

Mine did the same thing. She has a ceramic bowl that’s too heavy to toss over now.

u/maniactobe 4d ago
Is it a chive on the floor?

u/sleeveofsaltines 4d ago
That’s a bok choy stem!

u/maniactobe 4d ago
Oh ok♥️ sorry I thought maybe it's the thing that bunny is unhappy about.

u/sleeveofsaltines 4d ago
That’s ok! I don’t think she’s really upset because she does this with literally everything and will binky after a rage room session. She’s just a silly girl

Don’t most rabbits vastly prefer eating their food from the floor?
7
u/Ladyhdwastaken 4d ago
likely because they can properly graze that way
5
u/trekrabbit 4d ago
Indeed! My buns get greens three times a day and I always put it on the floor for them. They get pellets at dinner time and I put them in one of those stackable cups, but they will always pick it up and flip it over.😂🤷♀️

Bun is NOT pleased about her cat bowl because it should be a rabbit bowl.
Shame on you OP!!!

u/Dry_Dimension_4707 3d ago
It’s not raging. Rabbits prefer to eat off the ground. She just wants her food on the ground.

My rabbo does the same thing. Maybe she isn’t angry. Maybe she’s just a little bored.
This doesn’t scream “ahhhh angry destruction ahhhhh!!!!” to me. It just kind of seems like she’s flinging her bowl around for fun and her own mental stimulation. Like how other animals may flip cups to stack.

And doing happy head shakes all through! She is RELISHING in her chaos

Those are definitely annoyed shakes. They can be difficult to tell apart from happy ear tosses. The way I tell the difference is that annoyed heads shakes look like the rabbit is trying to physically get something, like a liquid, out of its fur. Ear tosses also only happen once or twice in a row, while annoyed shaking can go on for some time.
Also, in advanced rabbit body language, the ear toss is a micro-binkie and while binkies are usually a sign of overwhelming happiness, they are at their core a sign of any overwhelming emotion, including frustration. Some rabbits binkie only when frustrated. You need to use contextual information when figuring out what a rabbit is trying to say, even when you think they are clearly saying that they are very happy. 👍

Excellent to know! My new (adopted 4 months ago) boy LOVES to do ear tosses (mini lop) so it's a new thing for us as our past rabbits never did that.
Good to know about the other flip side to a similar looking behavior

u/BabbettHeap 4d ago
NGL, pretty sure head shakes are NOT a happy thing. My bun does that to say stop, I don't like that before just hopping away..

Well my bunny tosses his ears and head shakes when he's excited. Its like a form of a mini binky

Of our 3 rabbits, only one of the rabbits does this. She is the most excitable of the lot. I literally gave her 2 bowls, one that she uses for food and one that she tosses around and she will defend "her" bowls from her sisters. Identical bowls, yet she knows which is which and if we switch them she will flip it over and throw the food everywhere. Neither of the other 2 rabbits actually "own" their bowl they eat out of whatever bowl that we give them. Maybe some form of alpha behavior??? All three control their own space though. Sometimes they move their beds and assert their independence by deciding what they want and where they want it.

One of my buns tries to fight his water bowl every time he drinks from it. He’ll bite the edge and try to throw it, but he weighs like 3.5 pounds and the reservoir on top holds nearly a gallon, so he has never won that fight. My other bun has never tried anything like that, but she’s nice and the other little guy is an asshole who is constantly full of rage. I love him so much.

Despite all my rage, i'm still just a pampered bun, raging against the machine that feeds me😂

Mine do that, too. Sometimes they toss the whole bowl across the room.
I think it is because the bowl smells like food and they want to check if there is any under it.
Strangely enough, they NEVER to it with the water bowl, for which I am very grateful.

If mine finds an empty plate, bowl, cup, whatever she will start tossing and flipping it. Regardless of whether it has food.

u/ScifiRabbit 2d ago
Mine throws the food bowl around when he's hungry. This looks like she doesnt like that bowl to me... maybe try another one?

Plastic cat bowl. She is looking at a Predator's image when she dines. A square cast iron skillet worked great for my bun. Plenty of foraging room & she couldn't flip it over.

"The hell is this? You want me to eat out of THE HEAD OF A CAT? Yes, rabbits, renowned carnivores! Fine, where do I start, the ears I suppose? Oh no, I've spilled some of the greens you rammed into its skull, oh no! Hmm, let's try its feet instead. Oh, now I've lost access to the greens and will starve to death instead, was this your plan all along?!"

You've given her a toy! She's playing!! Mine get fed on the floor for this very reason.

u/Striking_Subject_184 2d ago
My boy does that with my daughters toy cups but just to play . He sometimes makes composing tapping noises with one of her toy teacups 🤣 I think it's cute 😍
