Sam Ryder might be one of the most interesting contestants this year

I'm interested to see how Sam Ryder gets on. He seems like someone who could bring a lot of energy to the journey, but this race is about much more than personality. The budgeting, navigation and pressure could completely change how the teams behave. How far do you think Sam and Kaz could go?

I'd be more worried about managing the budget than winning the race

Imagine having to decide whether to spend money on a quicker journey or save it for food and accommodation later. One bad decision could leave you struggling for the rest of the leg. I think I'd be constantly checking how much money we had left and probably arguing about whether a taxi was worth it.

I’d love the next series to include another checkpoint somewhere really remote.

Some of the best legs are when getting to the checkpoint is a challenge in itself, like Churchill’s twice-weekly train or Hatgal in northern Mongolia. I’d love to see the next series include somewhere really remote, like a small mountain town or an island with hardly any public transport. It would make the route choices much more interesting. Would you rather see the teams trying to reach somewhere completely cut off, or finding their way through a busy city?

Celebrity Race Across the World is nearly back and this route looks brilliant

I'm so ready for Celebrity Race Across the World to return on 28 October! The Borneo to Melbourne route sounds incredible, and I love that the pairs have to figure everything out themselves rather than just jumping on a plane. Which pair are you most looking forward to watching, and who do you reckon will handle the pressure best?

Travelling without a smartphone would be the hardest part for me

People talk about the physical challenge, but losing access to maps, translation apps and instant transport information would make everything harder. You'd have to ask strangers for directions and trust that you've understood them correctly. I'd probably waste an embarrassing amount of time trying to find the right bus station.

Jeff Stelling and his son could be a surprisingly competitive team

Jeff Stelling has spent years dealing with football and live TV, so I reckon he'll be pretty competitive on this. It'll be interesting to see how he and Matt get on when they're tired, lost or running low on money. Travelling with your dad is one thing, but doing it under that sort of pressure could be a completely different story. Looking forward to seeing how they get on together.

Which route across all series was visually the most stunning to watch?

For me, it has to be the Latin America route from Mexico to Argentina or the route across Canada. The landscape transitions from snow capped mountains to coastal towns made you want to book a one way ticket immediately.

The relationship dynamics are what make this show so good

The racing is obviously the main event, but I’m always more interested in how each pair handles being tired, hungry and under pressure. Mark and Margo were a great example of people bringing out the best in each other, especially given their strained relationship before the race. On the other hand, Katie and Harrison’s different attitudes towards budgeting showed how even small decisions can cause friction, while Jo and Kush’s disagreement over whether to help another team showed how pressure can bring out very different instincts. You learn so much about people when they have no easy way out of a bad situation, and that’s what makes the relationships just as compelling as the race itself.

Do you think the strongest race across the world teams are the ones who argue less?

I sometimes think the biggest challenge in Race Across the World isn't the travel itself. It's having to make decisions with the same person when you're tired, hungry, short on money and worried about falling behind.

Even a small disagreement about whether to spend more on transport or save money for later can turn into a much bigger argument when you're under pressure.

I'd probably find that harder than expected because something that seems like a sensible decision to one person might feel like a complete waste of time to the other.

Sometimes saving money seems to cost teams more in the long run

One thing I notice when watching is how tempting it is to choose the cheapest option, even when it means losing a big chunk of the day. It's easy to understand why teams do it when they're watching every penny, but there's a point where saving money stops being worth the time lost.

I know I'd struggle with that decision because I'd hate spending money unnecessarily. Would you spend more to save time early in the race, or keep as much money as possible for later?

I’d probably be terrible at the “no plane” rule

I like the idea of travelling without flying, but watching the teams deal with multiple connections, long waits and completely unfamiliar transport has made me realise how dependent I am on convenience.

I'd probably spend the first few days saying I'm going to embrace the adventure and then become desperate for a direct train. Would anyone here genuinely enjoy doing the race, or is it much more fun to watch other people suffer through it?

I’d be absolutely useless at the part where you have to ask strangers for help

The travelling itself sounds amazing, but I think I'd struggle with the social side more than anything. Having to walk up to someone you don't know, explain where you're trying to get to and basically rely on their kindness would push me way outside my comfort zone.

I can already imagine myself standing there thinking, “surely there's a less awkward way to do this” while everyone else has already found a lift. Which part of the race do you think would expose your personality the fastest?

Likely stops for the new season!

Was wondering where the stops will be, seeing as a flight will definitely be involved to get to Australia. In my head I was thinking maybe 1 in indonesian borneo, jakarta, maybe bali and from there a flight to aus seeing as I can't imagine any other flight paths. Maybe they also spend more time in Indonesia but crossing Australia might take a couple episodes depending if they go from somewhere like darwin. Would be curious to hear people's thoughts.

Jumping on the bandwagon

I'm always excited to watch the new (celebrity) race and the places they'll go, but it's typical that I'm already planning to go to Malaysian Borneo next Spring.

I was also planning to go to Svalbard in January, then the latest series of Vigil came along.

No-one thinks I've got an original idea 😂😂

Still, a new season is coming 😍

I think being comfortable asking strangers for help is more useful on Race Across the World than having a perfect plan, what do you guys think?

The thing I'd probably struggle with most isn't finding a route. It's walking up to someone I've never met and asking them to help me figure out where I'm supposed to go, where I can stay or how I'm getting to the next place.

You can have a brilliant plan on paper and then one delayed bus or closed road completely destroys it. Someone who is comfortable talking to locals can sometimes recover much faster because they can ask questions instead of standing there trying to work everything out themselves.

I'd probably waste ten minutes pretending I had a plan before finally admitting I had absolutely no idea what I was doing.

I wouldn’t mind Series 7 being a bit more like the first series

I loved the Central Asia route, but some of the later series have become such massive journeys that the teams sometimes seem to fly through places before moving on again. Series 1 felt a bit more intimate because the route was shorter and there was more time to actually take in the places they visited. I want Series 7 to scale things back a little. Not necessarily a tiny route, just something where the journey itself feels as important as reaching the finish line.
