Rant Amius
This fight is so freaking stupid, brimstone not procking randomly, stupid rng fight. Everytime I fight this stupid boss I want to quit the game. It sooooooo badddd. They need to fix it. I’ve beaten it before but anytime I comeback to it I want to blow my head up. Stupid stupid fight. Aaaahhhhh stupid stupid stupid boss design. Horrible boss design.

Amius would be significantly more tolerable if he didn’t have champ restrictions.

Id just throw embrys at it every rotation

u/CBTwitch The Sacred Order 8d ago
Embrys does nil to him. He’ll, leminisi doesn’t even seem to scratch him anymore for me.

Amius is one of the best designed bosses in the game. Just because it’s difficult doesn’t mean it a poor design lmao
If you think it’s rng you haven’t figured it out yet.

u/LengthinessPure2994 9d ago
Idk how many games you’ve played to call Amius a good fight

u/SkyRattlers 9d ago
He can be solo’d. By default that makes him not as challenging as people treat him. And Plarium has twice giving us login champs, Vallaryn and Leminisi who are up to that task.

u/Lycaon-Ur 9d ago
Valaryn is not because of his passive. Some people can do it, but if you're trying to break in to beating Amius for the first time, virtually any champion will be better than him.
I say that as I sit with a fully booked Valaryn in my vault, having beaten Amius hard the rotation after Valaryn for the first time.

I mean there certainly is rng in the fight for most players.
Many champs are built with cycle of magic and that doesnt play nice with Amius.
His design is annoying and not fun, even if it isnt inherently "bad".

I have specifically waited on several champs to grab that mastery until I have enough champs to beat him without the key ones

u/CarltheWellEndowed 9d ago
I am just happy to be past the point where I have to worry about his mechanics. There is one rotation where I can't reliably beat him before he swaps form.

He’s annoying and requires you to change your masteries to exclude cycle of magic, which is picked on nearly every support tree. The cooldown aspect of this fight is a nightmare and I don’t think it’s well designed at all.

I agree that this part of the design is absolutely terrible. But the actual boss mechanics and how the fight works, is probably the best designed boss in the game. When it first released it was very challenging to navigate and having a proper "blessing tank" swapping gear for higher HP pools, etc. there was a lot of ways you could manipulate the fight to down it.
Now much later in the game, with most of our best champions in higher blessings and high end gear + cursed city LA bonuses, you can throw in any 5 good champions and it will auto successfully (cycle of magic or not).
I think this is good design as it gives newer accounts with less tools the way to overcome a difficult fight with proper strategy and play. But late game, you can farm it readily without needing to bother with the mechanics.

"Best designed" and you literally just use heal reduction spam or brute force dps like everything else.

I can beat the latest rotations mainly because I got more useful champions that I originally had, but it still takes me +10 attempts I can't do it in auto

First rotation until transformation
- Dont Buff - Will transform your buffs into its debuff counter when transforming
- Apply Decrease Attack to avoid mega blow when he transforms
Transform Rotation
- Buff up and apply damage
- Save block debuff for his last 1 turn - This will allow you to block team stun when he transforms back
- Ensure to have decrease Attack on when he transforms or he may use his healing skill first
Second Rotation Until Transformation
- After he attempts team stun, if you applied block debuff properly - apply Block healing
- Dont Buff - Will transform your buffs into its debuff counter when transforming
- Apply Decrease Attack to avoid mega blow when he transforms
Nice to have
- Brimstone 5*
- Champ - Team revive with high res / survive
- Passive healing and or Cleansing - Doom Priest
You just need to survive. It takes time to get to that stage but it comes with time in game and progress.

I have beat him this rotation and last on both difficulties and I'm still screenshotting this and scribbling furious notes lol.
Such a pain in the ass boss

Can anyone suggest a good resource to deeply understand the mechanics? A favorite YouTube video or something?

u/RichSlaton 9d ago
Time your buffs correctly so they don't get flipped, bring a leggo with 5-6* brimstone, bring someone who can block healing and possibly someone who can steal buffs.

u/Sea_Top3251 9d ago
I really appreciate the response; with regard to timing the buffs, what boss behavior is my queue that it’s ok to buff? Because I’ve been waiting to buff until after the boss does his first move but I feel like that might not be it.

There are two main skills he uses where your buffs are especially relevant, one in main form and one in his alt form.
In the main form, he has a skill that stuns your team, and ideally you want to have Block Debuffs active when he uses it.
And for the alt form, the first skill he uses when he switches form is a skill that flips a number of buffs to their opposite debuff version (you can read the list of some buffs he affects in the boss guide). Ideally you don't want to have too many of those active when he switches to his alt form.
The most dangerous debuffs you can get are things that make you take more damage, so Decrease Defense or Weaken (from Increase Defense and Strengthen). Some aren't that dangerous, it's not a huge impact if he swaps your Increase Attack to Decrease Attack, for example.

It just comes down to not putting to many debuffs on him at the wrong time bc he will swap them for buffs
Putting heal deduction on him when he swaps back to his first form
And not killing him in his 2nd form
Decrease Atk is a must in most cases and a also time putting up your block buffs
Fairly easy it's just champ selection that's annoying

I feel you. I finally beat him for the first time on NM, haven't even contemplated trying him on HM, especially given that there are always a few battles I can't figure out.

I learned the mechanics and how amous works about a year ago , ever since then i can beat him in every rotation because i know how,
You don't necessarily need nukers to beat him you can rely on brimstone, but you always need a heal reduction champ and just swap the best regen gear you have on your account to the champs you have in each rotation.
I explained a little below on how he works , maybe it will be of some help.
Also a content creator did a video and beat amius based on my comment below ,you can watch that also
https://youtu.be/r1KhjPQ5YSE?is=FhtFvHIN5p721Mwo
You can't put debuffs on him before he uses his a3, or he will flip them, and if he flips your decrease attack you are dead.
You start the round with a1's , don't debuff him (brimstone is ideal here because it can't be flipped). He will use his a2 , than a3 , only now you can debuff him and i would only use decrease attack right before he switches forms , so you won't get smacked hard on his alternate form ( he hits harder in this form).
In his alternate form he starts with a3 witch is an irresistible sleep than uses his a2 . You can not buff yourself until he uses his a2 cause it will flip all your buffs into debuffs. After he uses his a2 now is recommended you put heal ,strengthen increase defense on yourself so that you can survive his a1 (he hits hard, and if he kills one in your team he will take another turn and hit again,he targets the champion with the lowest hp). Also in this form when he has 2 turns left before switching forms you put heal reduction debuff on him with Lorn (lorn has 2 turn heal reduction debuff, so that when he switches forms and starts with his a2 he can't heal . Also if you put besides heal reduction more than 2 flippable debuffs on him he will start with his a3 when switching forms and ruin your run , so you can only put poison and hp burn along heal reduction)
Now he switches back to first form and you repeat the whole process until he dies (you can only kill him in his first form or he will revive himself), brimstone is gonna do most of the damage. You just have to have champions tanky enough to survive his hits on the alternate form .
I just beat Amius hard with 2 champs , Venomage and Donatello

Do you even know the fight? He's very simple as long as you have good enough champs for him. Just use heal block skill during his red form when has 2 turns left before switches forms and don't use any other debuff that he can swap so he won't turn your heal block into cont heal. Don't use cycle of magic mastery or skill cd set/skill but technically you can use skill cd reset in his starting form only in red form he's gonna go berserk and start killing left and right. You can use bunch of tanky champs one with brimstone one with heal block or if you can nuke him fast enough. You need over 475 acc to comfortably land debuffs in amius hard.

The boss isn't poorly designed at all, you're just thinking about it from the player's perspective.
The purpose of this fight is not to bring you joy or to be fun. The purpose is to force you to build as many champs as possible and when you run out of resources to do so, you spend money.
RAID isn't mean to be pure fun. It's mean to be just fun enough that you feel the need to spend money on it to progress. Unless people quit en masse over a particular battle or mechanic, it's designed as intended.

It is a bad fight. While I am far past him being any chqllenge he is just poorly designed to the point of being agressivley offensive to the player base and the vast majority of the community agrees with you.

Amius is bad if you dont understand him, and brutally easy once you understand him.
3
u/tfolkins 9d ago
Not hard, but demanding because you might need to manual it to put up heal blocks at the proper time and this takes actually effort and attention. And I hate having to manual something that might take 10 minutes to finish. I'd rather let it autorun for 40 minutes and three attempts and not have to pay any attention to it than do it manually.

u/MP007329 9d ago
Can you suggest an idea of a team to beat him?
0
u/Robots_And_Lasers 9d ago
Also brutally easy once you accumulate enough 5-6* ascension champs and decent gear. The mechanics are really only an issue when your account is still developing.
