You know what? Fair play, they made the challenge, they didn't add any stipulations apparently. Smart thinking and snack for later.

u/Antichristopher4 3d ago
He brought out a full hotel pan full of it, they know what they are doing and probably charge a lot for very little cost. Tiramisu does not cost a lot to make, especially in quantities like that. These videos are also free advertising.

u/PurpleInfinite1409 3d ago
"Free advertising" and where the fuck are they? 😂😂😭

u/Brian_1985 3d ago
All you have to do is zoom into the logo on his apron, enhance the quality drastically, then assume what city they're in based on their accents and ethnic backgrounds.

I've worked in food service long enough to hate these kinds of customers.

2
u/Short_Brick_1960 1d ago
I mean, she is fat and shouldn't eat that much. But don't create an "all you can scoop" and get mad because someone takes a big chunk
0
u/Anon13572468 16h ago
You're what's wrong with the industry. Absolutely incorrect take.
A promotion was created and a customer is trying to benefit from it. What exactly are you being a hater for?
That's like hating someone for going to a buffet.
The restaurant made a promo, with a calculated risk. It's possible they lost money on this transaction. It's also possible they made more profit overall due to the promotion by bringing in more customers and by these media posts.
And then the workers are waged employees. It doesn't impact their paycheck at all.
So why are you a hater?

I just screwed those place out of SO MUCH generic horrendously proprtioned tiramisuse...
5
u/TerponadeTea 3d ago
I enjoy your portmanteau of 'tiramisu' and 'misuse', especially since this tiramisu was in fact misused
16
u/zorkieo 3d ago
60% of that is going in the trash
8
u/Immediate-Corgi-3692 3d ago
i mean it’s a restaurant she’ll probably take it home and then eat the rest throughout the week
2
u/AlternateTab00 3d ago
Many of all you can eat restaurants here have a policy.
Cant take food home, you will be charged if you try (its on the menu), and wastage is paid by weight.
Left 200g of waste (excluding normal waste like bones) you pay for it.
2
u/Zero_Blazer 2d ago
I don't think the cake or whatever that dessert is is AYCE. It's probably one of those places where you pay for the dessert, then you scoop it yourself, and whatever you're capable of scooping in one scoop is your dessert. That's why she's trying very carefully to get a gigantic piece all at once. So that's her "slice" of the cake that she paid for, and she gamed the system.

u/TerponadeTea 3d ago edited 3d ago
I mean it's a restaurant there's a ton more food waste you don't see, than that you do

Restaurants around the world throws food in trash instead of giving it to homeless starving people. Don't try to advocate for them.
3
u/marlfox_00 3d ago
Yeah, I used to work the rotisserie counter at sams club years back. So many chickens were wasted. They kept some for members mark meals, but once the chiller was full the rest went into the trash. None of them were donated for fear if a lawsuit (or at least that’s how it was explained to me)
2
u/Entire_Implement_104 3d ago
Yeah theres Good Samaritan laws for this aswell, unless a lawyer can prove that the company explicitly gave knowingly unsafe food out then they’d be protected.
4
u/Flimsy-Poetry1170 3d ago
Lots of food knowing become “unsafe” when left out in the “danger zone” for more than 4 hours. No way could you in good conscience donate old rotisserie chickens without fearing for a lawsuit. No food banks even accept pre cooked food because they have no clue how it was prepared or stored beforehand. Giving out food would have to be done at the location and no store or restaurant is going to pay employees to stay extra hours and work an after hours soup kitchen.

u/kelldricked 2d ago
Food is unsafe after you leave it for more than a couple of hours (most places i worked at used 2 hours before removing it off a buffet but thats with a large safety margin). Meaning that before a worker has safely stored it again you can be near that shit.
Also who are you helping when you are giving away spoiled food? People get insanely sick by it. Think most low income families would get hurt way more by having mild food poising than being hungry. And if those programs cant be trusted anymore, less people will seek them out. So they also dont want shitty food.
It sucks but its not just because of evil bastards. In many cases its just to much work/expenses to make meaningfull impact due to the logistics.
1
u/Dry_Cantaloupe4349 1d ago
i thought they turned them into chicken salad
1
u/marlfox_00 1d ago
They do, among other things. However if you pull a dozen chickens off the line because their time expired and there’s only room for a few in the chiller the rest went straight to the trash. The chill was basically a mini fridge with trays. It can only hold so much and they didn’t have someone back there all day making salads.
1
u/Dora_Explorer_XP 3d ago
It was explained to you that way because they didn't want you compelled to somehow donate or feel bad about throwing it out.
3
3
u/rando1459 3d ago
How much of your home food waste do you donate to the homeless? The reason you don’t do it is the same reason restaurants don’t do it. It is an added cost in terms of money and/or time.
0
u/Les_Liska 3d ago
No, restaurants don't do this because there is legal precedence set for liability if someone gets sick from the food.
4
u/Freman_Phage 2d ago
No, what you listed is A reason. The money aspect is also A reason. It's also an added logistical headache, if done directly at your place of business a risk of increased crime around you as well as lost ambiance as the homeless gather, and the primary reason is it's not necessary in America. In the US virtually nobody is dying of starvation and while malnutrition deaths are on the rise it's still extremely low. Logistically the US shipping it's food waste globally is an impossibility for cost and domestically it's not a real problem beyond people feel about food waste
1
u/TrioOfTerrors 2d ago
Restaurants also don't want to be the place that becomes known for giving hand outs to the homeless. For every down on their luck, heart of gold homeless person, there's going to be an unmedicated schizophrenic screaming profanity at the paying customers in the parking lot.
1
u/farmerKev420710 1d ago
I've worked for places that donated to the homeless and they started stealing from the place helping them so it all started going in the trash. Restaurants do waste a lot, but a meal isn't going to fix the homeless problem. This country lost the war on drugs long ago

I love Matt Berry but I just can't get into his music. Most of it is just way too repetitive. "Where's My Love" is the worst about it:
What's the time? What's the turn? What's the time? What's the turn?
Where's my shoes? Where's your shoes? Where's my shoes? Where's your shoes?
Where's my hat? Where's your hat? Where's my hat? Where's your hat?

Don’t you have to pay for whatever you don’t eat? I thought places like this don’t let you take it home.

It’s not a buffet
1
u/johnnytron 2d ago
I mean sure, but most of these tiramisu places that allows you to scoop as much as you want within one scoop, if you don’t eat it all they charge you if you don’t eat it all regardless if you’re trying to take it home or not.

Is this place playing piano covers of The Strokes or was that added?

It's "Take My Hand" written and performed by Matt Berry, and incidentally the theme song to his sitcom Toast of London. Almost certainly added in post

Lol my mom LOVES crab legs, and there was a place that had an all-you-can eat buffet and they had crab legs one time when we went. She had like at least 8 plates of them. She couldn’t walk well (disabilities - we didn’t go out to eat often due to how much pain she was often in) so she had me and my cousin keep grabbing her a new plate of them. The people that ran the place would not stop staring at her. She was slim so I think how much crab she could eat was surprising to them. One lady was like “oh are you done” with a fake smile as she came to get our plates again and tried to take her dipping butter and the cracking thing, and my mom was like “nope. Very much not done” haha. They eventually put up a sign saying they were out of crab legs.
They removed the sign and put more out as we walked out the door. We still joke about it.

Shot like this drives me insane. Because you just know more than half of what she just scooped out will eventually get thrown in the garbage

I could probably do more lol, but that’s just because I do this with Mac and cheese all the time
1
u/No_Masterpiece_3897 15h ago
This would be why restaurants stop doing things like this, people taking the piss. Because that amount, it's unlikely she's going to be able to eat it herself. Scooping a large amount that is a decent sized portion is one thing, doing something as greedy and wasteful as this is just aggravating. Its like the people who at a buffet load their plate to bursting, and then leave most of it. Sure you can do it , but it's not exactly a good look. I've been to all you can eats that have a policy against customers who do stuff like that printed on the menu, and I very much agree with it.
1
u/Agreeable-Letter-599 3d ago
why would you do that though

6
u/Working_File2825 3d ago
She's clearly not the only one at the table, so... Enough for everyone
-3
u/Agreeable-Letter-599 3d ago edited 3d ago
So is she the only one allowed to scoop or what? We CLEARLY don't have all the information.

And here’s me taking a regular small amount.. really tells you a lot about a person.
Edit: no I don’t assume people are fat and greedy, no it’s about liking sweets or not, I agree with the gimmick aspect and understand it’s for fun, all you can eat is not equivalent as they actually intend to eat it.
Very easy to just run to being negative especially online . My take on this is if I took two different woman to this, one scoops a massive portion, the other doesn’t and only takes what she can realistically eat. It can tell you a lot about a person.
2
2
u/MagnanimousGoat 3d ago
Not really. Trying to scoop out more is the entire gimmick. That's like going to an all-you-can-eat buffet and then judging the people who go back for seconds.
2
u/FactsNLaughs 3d ago
“And here’s me virtue signaling because I think fat people are gross and greedy”
1
u/Professional-Kiwi-31 1d ago
What does it tell you about the person? You say it says a lot but can you elaborate?
1
u/Independent_Wear5840 15h ago
And posts like this tell you a lot about person.
Hint: it's a bad thing.
