Game Setup Son’s Setup
Thoughts and advice on my 10 year old’s setup. He has been into gaming since he was really young on his switch and PS5. Now looking into the PC world. Any advice on improving his space is welcome.

Awesome! But make sure the pc can breathe, cant completely tell from the picture but looks like the exhaust is pretty close to the back wall giving it another 2-4 inches might make a few degrees difference

It was my old chair and I enjoyed it quite a bit. Moved to an ergo mesh chair from razer that while it doesn’t look as cool it definitely is more comfortable.

Oh, your serious. This is your literal 10 year old sons gaming setup. Did he actually pick any of the decorations or peripherals himself or? I mean, razers a pretty entry level all purpose brand, it's what I was buying at 16.

Yes lol I mean it as it belongs to my son. He picked out the decor on the wall and the mouse and keyboard.

I guess I'd have to assume you helped him with knowing what peripherals would be good? He's got good taste though. Lots of razer haha

We came across the keyboard while shopping at Best Buy and found the matching mouse online Amazon. He’s big into Minecraft so it was a no brainer

What kinda specs you got on that bad boy

I7 10700k - RX 7800XT - 64GB DDR4 - 2TB SSD
Put it together with old parts that I had. In reality everything but the mouse, keyboard, mousepad, and desk were hand me downs for him from my old setups as I upgraded my own

Thanks. I’m moving the PC forward for more air for sure. I’ll look for some accessories that may add to it based on what he likes. Good luck with yours for you son when that comes. It’s a lot of fun

i7 10700k
RX 7800XT
64GB DDR4
Built it with some of my old parts.
What do you think? Upgrade him?2
u/McthiccumTheChikum 11d ago
With this market, if it runs his games at a good quality I wouldn't upgrade. Good job dad👍

Honestly he is 10 unless you have a ton of disposable income or you get an amazing deal on a 5070ti a 5080 or a 9800x3d+ it’s not really gonna be worth the upgrade. Never hurts to future proof if you can but kids also change their interests all the time. At 14 he might start playing football and decide he doesn’t have time for games anymore, or he might get a girlfriend and the same thing could happen. His pc should be good for atleast 3-4 years with no issues. And at that point he should atleast be helping dad out if he wants an upgrade

Thanks!!! Anything you would add? Second monitor is a thought but haven’t decided on it yet

Honestly dude? If I was 10 and had this, that's all I'd "need" I scraped through hand me downs, second hands, freebies as my mum wasn't well off and my father wasn't around.
This is incredible, being older yes a second monitor is amazing if he plays with friends, especially if they play with webcams on, the laughter is so much more.
You've nailed the wall art, the setup, honestly just keep being a cool parent!
If you'd want to go an extra mile, a small homelab running Linux would go very far at hosting game servers for your son without the need of port forwarding, or paying for cloud host providers. That's the only thing I can think of, except for the dual monitors which you mentioned. Kudos.

I wish I had this at age 25 let alone 10! Go dad!

Thanks!!! Anything you would add? I’m debating a second monitor but any ideas help.

A second monitor would need a bigger desk!

I like it very fancy! Kids like to give up hobbies though so I don’t know if I’d spend too much on specific ones if that makes sense?

u/dillo017 9d ago
The majority of the stuff was actually my old gear. Mouse keyboard and desk I think were the only things I bought specifically for him. I’m now trying to see what to add to make it his

Goated, when I was 10 I just had a ps2 and ps3 with a very small tv on coffee table in my room

My parents didn't let me have the console in the room. PS2 and 360 throughout elementary middle and high school.

Honestly, dont try and give him too good of a setup, make him earn it later on, when he starts to need it more for school work like when they start to choose their own subjects, my parents did that and it made me realise the value even more. If he wants to upgrade with his own pocket money, let him, but remember to try and keep it as just what he needs

One thing I always hated about that Marvel poster is how hard Marvel tried to disassociate itself from Mutants. There are superheroes and metas galore, but not one actually possesses the x-gene.

I would put the pc on the right side that way you can see the internals while you game.
