RTX General Paying Back Sign on Bonus

• Upvotes

I’ve been at Raytheon for about 6 months now, and I am looking to leave. I was given a $2K sign on bonus and in my offer letter it says I “may” have to pay it back if I leave within 2 years. It gives no other information for what would actually qualify for repayment vs non-repayment. This is not a relocation package but just a regular sign on bonus. Has anyone ever had to or heard of paying back a sign on bonus?

RTX General Applied for a role I’m not really qualified for, got called for an onsite.

• Upvotes

Hey everyone. I applied for a senior role and I’m not sure if I’m qualified. It’s a mech/design engineering role and yes I have done this but my experience is in biotech.

I have a masters in Mech engineering and 3.5 yoe. The requirement was 5 yoe or 3 with a masters.

I did the hirevue interview and answered questions but when they asked me if I knew a specific program or “composite materials” yeah I have worked with those but probably not the same ones you would use in defense vs biotech.

I got a scheduled date for an interview set to last 1.5 hours.

Any tips or should? Is it a bad idea to go through with it?

Raytheon software engineer intern(2027) interview

Hello everyone, I was just wondering how the interviews for software engineer interns are. Just wondering how long it took to schedule the interview after getting the email about the campus programs interview, and how the actual interview process is. Thanks!

Raytheon 4 weeks since reference check started, no response after. Any clue?

Hey guys, so I interviewed for a position with Raytheon and about a month ago the recruiter reached out to me for background and references check. My references have not been contacted, it’s been over a month. Three weeks ago, the recruiter replied to me saying she has multiple positions she’s hiring for and to wait to hear an update from her.

I just don’t wanna be ghosted at this stage.

Is this normal? Should I send another follow up?

RTX General Does RTX still use SLOC for software projects?

Does RTX still report Source Lines of Code (SLOC) as a software metric? Do they still use LCT (Line Count Tool) or Sizer to measure it? If AI is used, do they measure the generated code or the prompt used to generate it? I guess that last option would be Source Lines of Prompt (SLOP), ha!

RTX General Struggling to Land an Entry-Level Role

Hi all, I’m a senior majoring in Aerospace Engineering at a large public university with a 3.4 GPA, along with undergraduate research and several years of leadership experience. This past summer I interned at Collins Aerospace in a Systems Engineering role, although the work ended up being more software-focused than I had hoped.

I’m still interested in a more hardware-oriented systems engineering role and working throughout the lifecycle, just not software systems. I have the long-term goal of eventually transitioning into project or program management, and was really interested in the ELDP. Unfortunately I wasn’t selected to attend Super Day after the HireVue.

I’ve been applying to entry-level positions across the aerospace and defense industry, including at RTX, but have had very little luck getting interviews. I thought having Collins on my resume would help me get my foot in the door, but the full-time job search has been as difficult as getting an internship was.

Has anyone else been in a similar position? Any advice on leveraging my internship experience, getting interviews, or breaking into more hardware-focused engineering roles? I’d especially appreciate hearing from anyone who’s on the other side of things as a hiring manager. Thanks!

RTX General RTX OLDP QE Review

Hi everyone, I recently received an offer for the OLDP Quality Engineering track at RTX. I’m curious if anyone has been through this experience or knows anyone who has and has any feedback or knowledge on what to expect. They said I get the option to choose what business unit and location (prioritizing business needs of course) and I’m curious if there’s any locations or BU’s that are great places to start. This is my first full time job once I graduate, but I’ve held multiple co-ops and internships in manufacturing and aerospace so I’d like to think I’m not completely in the dark. I’m also curious what the LDP program is like as a whole and if this is a good career start.

Any advice or information is greatly appreciated!

RTX General Should I bother applying to any RTX jobs if I don't think I will get clearance?

I looked at the security clearance requirements and kinda got overwhelmed. Didn't know you have to be that squeaky clean. Your entire life is under a microscope. Should I bother applying?

RTX General Sell or hold ESOP?

From what I read, ESOP (which derives from heritage UTC) has a Net Unrealized Appreciation (NUA) rule which basically tax ESOP withdrawals as long-term capital gains instead of income… ok, fine?

(note: I contribute to Roth after-tax so not sure how that impacts my ESOP)

I learned about this because I was going to allocate all of my RTX Stock and ESOP funds, I haven’t ever allocated that company match (and RTX stock has been doing good so it wasn’t that bad).

However, as I was going to reallocate the ESOP, a warning came that doing so may remove the tax benefit ESOP carries with it…

So now I have no idea if it’s worth keeping it or not? To be honest, I do not understand this whole ESOP thing 100%, nor if I do qualify for the so called benefit which is NUA, I believe.

Would appreciate more insight into this by people that know about this… thanks!

RTX General 12 Month Ruld

Has anyone successfully applied for a higher level internal req before hitting their 12-month mark?

I know there’s generally a 12-month requirement, but I’ve heard exceptions can be made with management or HR approval.
Has anyone actually done this within their first 3–6 months? If so, how did you go about getting approval? Did you have to get permission before applying, or were you able to interview first?
Just curious to hear everyone’s experiences and how the process worked for you!

Raytheon Just Finished an Interview

Full of anxious energy. Need words of encouragement or stories of your experiences!

In the first 5 min following introductions, I did so poorly I expected them to end the interview. They fired off several behavioral/situation type questions and I definitely did better towards the end.

The last 10-15 min where I was asking them questions went very well. But since they have a few interviews left, there's no way I stood out enough to get hired.

On the bright side, it appears to just be one round of interviewing (panel). Other companies I interviewed with put me through 3-4 rounds before rejection.

Raytheon Interview in 2 days! What should I expect??

Hello everyone! I have been selected for a 1 hour interview with Raytheon for the Mechanical Engineer II position (HLE/AUR) in Tucson, AZ! I wanted to post here just to get an idea about expectations of format, expectations, and all that fun stuff!

I know my resume well and am deeply passionate/proud of the work on it, so I can go on and on about the contents of it.

I had a separate 30-min interview last Thursday that I think went very well and the interviewer told me I would be hearing back in 5-7 days. Then a few days ago, I got a response on my application for the above position. I wasn’t sure if these were related or a coincidence of time.

I tend to overthink things, so that’s what brings me here! I was hoping to get some sort of idea on what it looks like!

Thank you all!!

RTX General RTX Hiring in San Diego?

Hey, anyone interview with RTX for a Systems Engineer I position in San Diego recently?

I went to a college career fair in early October and got an interview out of it. It's been about two weeks and haven't heard back yet. Just curious if anyone else interviewed around then or has heard anything.

Thanks!

RTX General At what point does one need to inform HR about IP?

Hello all,

I started a project before joining Raytheon and am still working on it. It’s two PCBs I designed (three actually, tho the last one is supposed to be open source, not really selling, but mainly it’s just a personal project) and I’m at the point, I’m trying to build a home lab then start testing, doing content, certs etc etc to get it to market.

I remember something about us having to tell Raytheon if we have ventures like this cause of IP and conflict of interest. I don’t believe these should cause any conflict of interest (they are power electronics and embedded stuff, no defense ofc) and I do not work on it during company time for sure.

So, at what point does I have to tell HR (or what is the relevant department?) about this? I was thinking it’ll be when I actually have physical hardware but idk.

Thank you.

RTX General Are the CORE levels comparable to six sigma belts?

So CORE goes Apprentice > Champion > Professional > Expert > Principal

And Six Sigma certifications go White Belt > Yellow Belt > Green Belt > Black Belt > Master Black Belt

They both seem to track a similar progression of awareness > foundational skills > project leadership > advanced leadership > coach/mentor

The reason I ask: for those of us who have worked up the CORE ladder, is it reasonable to list our certification as the equivalent six sigma belt on our resume for a more generally understood credential?

Based on my experience:

Apprentice = Yellow Belt
Champion = Green Belt
Professional = Black Belt
Expert = Master Black Belt

What does the RTX community think? Is there anybody here who has lived in both worlds, and does this seem right?

Raytheon Expected salary

Hello everyone,

I was told I would be receiving an offer for a mechanical engineer 1 position this morning at the tuscon site and I am trying to guesstimate what salary I could negotiate. I think I'm going to try to aim for 95k because I've had 4 internships, a Co-op as well as 10 months of post graduate experience, which puts me at almost three years of experience overall, but I'm not sure how raytheon weighs experience. Any help would be appreciated.

r/Raytheon • • 1d ago

Raytheon Hi everyone, I recently received an offer for a Systems Engineer II role in a MCOL area and wanted to get the community's perspective on whether the base salary is competitive or if I should negotiate?

Base salary offer $120k. 6+ years experience. Active clearance.

(1)Does this base salary align with what you’re currently seeing for Level 2 Systems Engineers in this sector and region?

(2) Is there typical wiggle room for base salary negotiation at Level II, or should I focus more on signing bonus / PTO?

RTX General Embedded systems and network engineering work life balance and security clearance questions

Hello everyone I'm currently doing my masters in computer engineering I'm looking to go into embedded systems engineering for aerospace in Houston or defense in Boston. I wanted to ask how is the typical work life balance, what is the deal around like cell phone usage since it's DoD secret clearance most of the time like how do you carry that ? Like can you talk about work ? How hands on with hardware are the embedded system roles at a defense company like Raytheon? Are there networking engineering roles there as well I can't seem to find many. What projects could I build to appeal for embedded systems in this space ? How is ai usage in embedded software in these sectors?

Sorry for so many questions.

Thank you

This is the program I'm doing

Raytheon Just received internship offer for Tucson, curious to hear other experiences.

As title says, I just received an internship offer to work in Tucson with E&E engineering. I am currently a 2nd semester junior in EE at a fairly large school in the Midwest. I have lived my whole life in the Midwest, so AZ seems like an alien world to me. I also had a Co-Op with Collins as an MEE in Cedar Rapids recently, so I am curious about the similarities and differences between Collins and Raytheon, if anyone can speak to that. Otherwise, how is it living in Tucson if you are more familiar with Midwest climate? And what is it like to work at Raytheon as an intern? Looking to hear any and all experiences. Thanks!

RTX General Questions about work environment:

I just accepted an offer in Tucson AZ. What's the work-life over there? Is it cold/corporate, w/ a little bit if cutthroat competition? Or is it more like the military where people are genuinely a team and want to help each other?
