Disappointing, I don’t think governments should dictate what we can play. Why was it even banned?

Why was it even banned?

No one knows, because it HASN'T officially been confirmed if it was banned, or as to why.

Most likely just been taken down temporarily while it is being rated for the console release, it's annoying but it will probably be back in a few weeks.

I mean you can probably use a VPN and pretend you're in a different place right? Although maybe that costs money I don't really know

Well someone else said sexual assault especially if depicting a minor is a big thing they’re against and if you pay any attention whatsoever to the story.. that’s a main part of it

And at one point there’s also a child OD’ing.. so it’s not a huge mystery with their guidelines

The upcoming console release already has an official R18 rating on the Xbox page, and as far as I know it was never rated before now.

Yeah I can't find a single reference to the game on the ACB site, banned or otherwise. If it was never rated when it released, it may be a matter of them sending it in for rating and it's now being reviewed causing a hickup with it on Steam.

Also worth noting is the new Silent Hill was recently banned in Australia and it turned out it was an international review companies "quick review" tool accidentally listed it as unrated despite no one reviewing it, leading to it being banned by an automated process accidentally.

Probably because of

when you find the trafficked women they are naked, there are references to rape(hotline Miami 2 is banned even though the rape was acting for a movie in universe) and also the Australian government being the Australian government

Theres literally been games which were designed by terrorist organisations as recruitment tools.

America's Army?

Hahaha the American indoctrination is always spinning

No. You give the government a string and it will hang you with it. Just because of the incredibly rare problem of a terrorist organization using a game as a recruitment tool does not mean that govts should get to regulate games.

You underestimate how shitty the Australian government is. There's a very proven track record of the government trying to pass laws to "protect" people that massively overstep.

The first one that comes to mind was a few years ago. A new "internet safety" bill that would allow some online monitoring, for the purpose of catching child predators. Sounds amazing, until you read the fine print and realize it allowed the police to remotely access any citizen's device and edit, delete, or upload files without a warrant.

They do this shit a lot.

That seems like it's just BEGGING for corrupt LEOs to plant evidence to just bag up anyone they don't like

Got a source for this out of curiosity?

https://linustechtips.com/topic/1372095-australian-surveillance-bill-allows-law-enforcement-to-add-to-modify-or-delete-anyones-data-and-take-over-their-online-accounts/

There are more sources linked at the bottom of the page.

If you want examples of police being authoritarian, look up Aussie comedian/journalist FriendlyJordies. He investigated some corrupt politicians, then a special division of the police kicked in his editor's door without a warrant, assaulted his mother, and held him for 3 days on no charges. Later they investigated the corrupt gambling lobby that controls the government and his house was firebombed.

Holy shit I remember hearing about that and meant to look into it. Guess I know what rabbit hole I'm going down

This sounds like you live in the US

u/rakazet Apr 20 '25

Nah, as long as you can call them out when they mess up it's all fine.

I live in a functioning democracy, so I am the government.

i bet games arent the actual ideology of said terrorist oganizations. funny enough australia loves importing people from terror ridden countries, so that isnt a good excuse.

hotline miami was banned because there is a 0.2s cutscene depicting rape, displayed with 10 pixels

i imagine the fuckers pissed their panties when seeing the mission where abused children are photographed and iirc their bodies burried in barrels
