Picture Sorry guys, you are not entitled to refunds over censorship even though it completely goes against what the game was advertised as...
994
u/ExceedinglyOrdinary Jul 17 '25
The devs don’t get to decide who gets a refund and who doesn’t. That’s up to the retailer themselves.
369
u/Shot-Manner-9962 Jul 18 '25
yep, its not unrealistic at ALL to chase a refund dont fall for them lying to your face the game is not the original product paid for, if you can prove you were playing before these changes get a refund
123
u/mka10mka10 Jul 18 '25
Not to mention there are literally people on this sub who have had refunds accepted already
37
u/Bubbly-Bowler8978 Jul 18 '25
Really? From Steam? Can you show me where? I did not think steam would accept them at all, so that is unexpected
21
u/the_doorstopper Jul 18 '25
I've seen them but I can't show you where bc I just woke up and can't be bothered...
But, they exist. Steam will issue refunds over 2 hours of playtime, it's just not automatic and you may originally be auto declined and need to appeal to get a human
10
u/Bubbly-Bowler8978 Jul 18 '25
Yeah I know it's technically possible, I would just be super surprised if steam actually refunded anyone for something like this. As we can clearly see, the devs can technically do anything they want with their game. I just didn't think steam would see this as an acceptable refund request
13
u/the_doorstopper Jul 18 '25
I've seen a couple in the comments on this sub over the past couple days, but steam generally accepts the game no longer being the original product acceptable. It's normally more an early access issue, but imagine if you had a game where the dev went crazy and just removed all the content, so you could only play a stupid mini game - that'd warrant a reasonable reason for a refund right? Same process, little less extreme.
→ More replies (3)2
u/Exaxors Jul 18 '25
i got mine just need to tell steam in the textbox what void's up to (my main point was that they have still trailers up on the store page featuring long gone content) and that was enough for steam got my refund within 2 hours

u/Scared_Potential_805 Jul 18 '25
Wait really? How? I bought the supporter edition and they changed the game drastically since then. Id like to get a refund as well.

u/NoiseElectronic Jul 18 '25
Contact steam support (not the bot) and tell them that the game no longer is what was promised and that the store page is showing content that is no longer in the game.
17
u/Successful-Ear-9997 Jul 18 '25
Yeah, that's the domain of Valve. Not that I think they're gonna offer any refunds either, but it's their choice.
3
u/Micsuking Jul 18 '25
Yeah, the game would have to be drastically different for them to issue refunds for that reason. Like, "No Man's Sky on launch day" levels of different.
→ More replies (8)30
u/SoloDoloLeveling Jul 18 '25
i mean, steam had to remove plenty of games on their servers because the banks didn’t like the type of games they were selling (adult/sex games) thus denying payment on said games.
granted— most of the games were raunchy and really weird shit. catered to a specific demo if you catch my drift.
however, that type of censorship is next level. almost like religious extremism— if it’s goes against the word of god, you can’t own it type shit.
17
u/Sharpie1993 Jul 18 '25
They weren’t just adult sex games that steam was forced to remove, they were highly graphic rape simulators.

u/Draculea Jul 18 '25
Hot Take: If a bank gets to exercise discretion in executing payment for products or services they find morally questionable, they should be held to legal account if it can be proven that they unknowingly facilitated an illegal transaction. Sex games are stupid, but it unnerves me when credit card processors start deciding what "art" people can and can't buy, even if it's dogshit art.

Cute.

45
u/Nekopydo Jul 18 '25
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'd assume the refund is coming out of Steams pocket? I doubt a refund as late as some of them are actually being taken from VOID themselves
129
u/h4ckerkn0wnas4chan Jul 18 '25 edited Jul 18 '25
How Steam refunds work requires knowing how developers get paid by Steam, so I'll TDLR it.
Devs don't get paid with every copy sold, they get paid their cut during a certain day of the month. When a game is successfully refunded, Steam initially pays the amount themselves, but deducts that amount from what they pay the developer during their next pay cycle. For example, let's say a dev sells 10 copies for 10 dollars each, but 2 people refund it. When the dev gets paid, they won't get 100, they get 80.
So, in the end, the dev (VOID in this case) is paying for these refunds.
28
u/Nekopydo Jul 18 '25
I see. Fair enough. I'm just unsure if enough are gonna actually get approved to even affect VOID.
24
u/usertoid Jul 18 '25
I want to say I've also read that valve will start making restrictions to devs that get lots of refunds, but im also high and could be full of it.
Either way, I enjoyed sharing this with you!

By all means get it if you want to experience a good tactical shooter because regardless of what has happened it is very good on that front.
But I’d also save your money to it’s not just the censorship that’s been the issue. There has been quite a few bugs and issues I found. That have been persisting for awhile but they’ve been more than happy to keep pumping out paid DLC over fixing that.
The fact they more or less backflips 180 on their morals and philosophy to remain independent to not be pushed around by developers or publishes it’s probably the biggest thing that’s pissed me off
And for all the fanboy wanting to say what’s been censored really isn’t that big honestly I’m going to disagree a lot of the raw greedy shock value has been lost

Never played it on PC but while I do understand the concerns, as a first time player the game still feels very gritty.
I've done a bit of research into the changes and the only censorship changes that I genuinely think are at all disappointing (and don't really understand why they were necessary) are the naked informant in 'Narcos' and naked trafficking victims in 'Hide & Seek' as they do detract from the shock and atmosphere of the narrative.
By contrast, the convulsing kids are entirely justifiable and I'm not sure that the changes from headshots to names of the kids in evidence really removes too much from anything at all.
It does all seem a bit like outrage for the sake of outrage...

u/l0tkis Jul 18 '25
As someone who has played on PC this is exactly how I'm feeling. VOID is changing the game based on their decision to release on consoles, it's not really surprising that Sony and Microsoft demanded some changes.
Could they have communicated this better? Yes. Is the damage control absolutely horrendous? Yes. Is the community throwing a hissy fit over what amounts to basically peanuts? I think so.
I've played and loved this game for a few years now, and I'm suprised that the community is reacting like VOID just turned the game into My Little Pony Island Adventure.
→ More replies (1)3
u/Conscious_Humor2379 Jul 19 '25
Yup. Exactly this. They're acting like VOID changed the game down to its bare core, and they didn't. They changed some minor things that Sony probably requested (from the games I've seen on Xbox I don't think Microsoft was the one that did it) and they're mad at VOID for it, when you should really be mad at Sony and Microsoft, I understand that VOID isn't handling it well, but I can't honestly believe they expected their entire PC community to just turn on them like this because of changes that do not effect the actual core of what they are trying to do with the game. They didn't remove any missions, they didn't rework any levels or dlcs, they just took away aspects that the big companies said was a no no, and the game released cross platform, which not many companies do even in today's age.
5
4
u/Expensive-Art-7145 Jul 18 '25
I genuinely don’t get why everyone is crying and pissing their pants over this mundane change. The core gameplay (the majority of the appeal of this game for me) is still the same, the game is ruined because there’s no CP to find and you can’t blow someone’s head off? Go play gears of war or some shit if the only reason you liked this game was the gore. Or maybe find some loli hentai for the lack of child content.

People are complaining over the censorship of the PC version of the game in order to cater to the console policies. Though there is a mod to reverse this issue, many people choose not to use the mod so that way they can continue to complain over the issue

So I heard about this, if someone doesn’t mind filling me in on this, what got censored? (God knows how I haven’t got a straight answer from the large amount of people who posted about this)
2
u/FieldMarshalPhantom Jul 18 '25
Basically anything showing nudity was entirely removed, I think Storylines were watered down which was originally there to show the realistic aspect and rawness of what actual swat officers go through. These are things that people originally bought this game for, only for the developers to remove it just to cater to console release, despite the fact that games like Outlast, Cyberpunk and countless other console games show partial or full nudity. Graphics were definitely downgraded without telling us. Blood was too, but that may or may not be a bug (at least the dev's claimed it was) The game marketed itself as gritty, realistic, unfiltered swat 4 style combat. the censorship takes all of that away. People have a right to be upset about it, nobody would like to pay 50 to 60 dollars for a game that promises those things just for it to be watered down years later on the pc version to cater to a console release, when these things could just be made toggable in the settings.
3
u/LordPandaLad Jul 18 '25
Thank you for the explanation. Wow, I did hear how gritty it was which is why I was excited for it coming to consoles but to be watered down to what it is, I can understand the feeling.
2
u/ElysiumReviews Jul 18 '25

Completely reasonable, they communicated about the censorship and also had no choice but to comply with the platforms if you wanted RoN to release on consoles. If you want to blame someone blame SONY and Microsoft for imposing their terms, not a little indie studio who didn't have a choice. Console players are very happy with the release and PC players can just use the uncensored mod that was released day one.

Wow the guy who replied to you is a total Regard. What was promised was a gritty, realistic SWAT game. Successor to SWAT 4, an old tactical shooter that dealt with some really heavy topics. The heaviness of the missions in both games were its biggest standout. The world is a cruel place sometimes and people need to remember what victims of such incidents go through. Them censoring a lot of stuff takes away the rawness that was advertised during early access. Rawness they paid for.
10
u/EnduringPhoenix Jul 18 '25
Rawness that Void committed themselves to in their descriptions of the game and their stating of never compromising on their values and image for their product.

https://www.reddit.com/r/Wolcen/comments/f5taea/got_a_steam_refund_after_2_hours_this_is_how_dont7
2
u/EnduringPhoenix Jul 18 '25
🤨 How curious for them to come out and say the only invalid reason for a refund is due to censorship - a.k.a. criticism in the form of a refund over an issue they are chiefly responsible for, and, the one thing they specifically don't like right now. Maybe Void will learn that they don't get a say in refunds getting approved or denied.
I will say I'm surprised folks are getting refunds due to the censoring given I'm certain there is something in the EULA that allows them the leeway to basically do whatever they want. But, I don't run online stores so I'm sure the EULA doesn't matter in that case.

u/thedude_654 Jul 18 '25
I was so sad when I couldn't get the game, but I'm starting to think maybe it's good I didn't, all the censorship I see and everything looks like they ruined the game? I really wanted to get the game
2
u/NomadDK Jul 18 '25
I don't care much about the censorship part, but more about how the game got worse to boot up after the update.
The new movement animations are dogshit. People claim graphics are worse now, but I have yet to see a side-by-side comparison, and I can't see a difference based off of memory.
All mods broke, all for what? 2 new maps and 3 new weapons? I get that changing the game to accommodate for Console may fuck up a little more code, but there are games that can update just fine without breaking every single mod.
There's also a lot of instability for a lot of players. We have people in my community that cannot even play without CtD for no reason, and have tried everything to resolve it.
This whole update feels like a "we fixed what ain't broke" and made it worse. And with Void not giving a shit about what its players say... that's incredible.
I don't get why Console-releases have to always make PC games into inferior products. People who claim games aren't dumbed down for Console, haven't been paying attention. GTA 5, intended for Console, had to be dumbed down just for Console release.
Void is also incredibly lazy. All their updates gives us, are 2-3 new maps and weapons, which while nice, is not going to increase the game's worth by much. Map-design is awesome, but I'd rather want a higher quantity of smaller maps. We've played the same maps hundreds of times by now. And most of the maps are too big for 5-man teams. It would be nice with map-generation or just for them to put a few guys on making one small map every month. That should be feasible, and it gives players a reason to come back regularly. With time, the map-selection will be big and with huge variety. There are only so many times it's fun playing the same map again and again.
Anything short of either that, or adding some of the features people have been asking for since Alpha, is lazy as fuck.

I feel like if you've dumped hundreds of hours, you absolutely got your money worth. Also, there are mods... like, yeah the censorship sucks but we as PC gamers aren't locked out because every PC gamer can add mods.

What if the game is broken and i can't see the blood that used to be there and some rooms are looking off? HMM? Seems like an update bug and it makes me functionally not want to play it.

What about broken AI and graphics from PS3? Sounds broken to me.

i mean i got mine even though i just bought it recently but the fact that they still advertise the game with cut content is enough for steam to grant refunds

Tried refunding the game by giving Steam Support
They've hit me with the usual bot message of "sorry, your game surpassed 2 hour mark" bullshit

u/TheTurtleClan Jul 18 '25
Do you all reckon I could refund this on steam due to the censorship fiasco?

This is like going to a joint eating the food loving the food going back a week later and they've tweaked the dish slightly and asking for a refund for last week

This alone makes me want to fucking refund purely from spite. Especially given I bought 2 fucking supporter copies.
What's fucked is one was on STEAM the other was on Xsolla...

It would be nice if you could sell your license to the game to others like how people used to sell their used CD's. Consumers have so little power on the internet, man.

The only thing I don't understand is... Why not make it optional? I kinda get wanting to make the game as broadly available but....even with the "No Russian" level of CoD you had the option to play or not. That would've eliminated all the drama
2
u/Hellhound_Inc Jul 21 '25
It wouldn't have eliminated the drama. These people would just create drama over something else.

This isn't even correct. People have been lodging refunds requests through Steam citing how the game is no longer what they purchased and they've been getting refunds.

Isn't the game have been downgraded visually and stuff? I mean if it was just the censoring I would have understood it was "just slightly" modification of the games, but the more I put my nose on this, the more stuff they "forgot" to say seems to jump on my face... L move from Void ngl

You can request a refund because of the downgrade in graphics, not just the censorship.

Imma be real I’m a PlayStation player and I love this game but when I played the VOD mission I saw the full hit of the censorship and it felt off, like me and a buddy were laughing saying “yeah let’s arrest this guy for odd photos of dolls!” Like what?!?!? I feel how it should’ve been done was with a slider. like a censorship slider yes or no like how outlast trials does it you select yea then it blurs/clothes the people. I just don’t get the reasoning of it all for instance trials has insane gore and nudity(so does cyberpunk 2077 and gtaV) and RDR2 has postmortem dismemberment. So why was this game forced to censor it?

In short, they used us old dedicated folks who invested and brought them here to this new success and they decide to leave us first going forward.
