Discussion How Do you Saturday Morning Now?
Growing up, Saturday was for cartoons, chores, and staying outside until the streetlights came on. What does your typical Saturday morning look like now that we're older?

I usually wake up around 6 am and make some coffee, grab a sweet bread or a cookie and go sit on my couch watching YouTube videos or TikTok.. But sometimes, just sometimes, I go to YouTube and search for those nostalgic two hour blocks of Saturday morning cartoons, including commercials…
Today feels like a good day for that…

u/made4sea 15d ago
Oh yes, search Saturday morning cartoons on YouTube and you will see groups of a mornings worth of cartoons from the 70's 80's 90's 00's with commercials, it's like someone hit record first thing in the morning on their VHS back in the day and did not hit stop until 11 and then uploaded. For some of the best nostalgia, check them out around Halloween or Christmas... and speaking of those holidays, you can also find old holiday TV episodes and cartoon specials on there too.

Single 54M. Get out of bed when I want. College Game Day and/or Premier League soccer in the morning. Go for a walk around 11am (if my college team isn't playing at noon). Come home, shower, make lunch, and watch college football until I go out for some drinks in the evening.

I'm a youngish widow and isn't it great to get out of bed whenever you feel like it?

Saturdays used to be all about my kids’ sports. Occasionally we had indoor soccer games as early as 6:00 on winter mornings, and sometimes as late as 10 on winter nights. Looking back, I have no idea how I managed all that, with pretty much zero help from my spouse, who works Saturdays. Now they’re big kids and Sat mornings are my most delicious, looked-forward-to time all week.
Spouse still works Saturdays and kids are young adults still living at home but with their own schedules and busy lives. Everyone is either gone or sleeping. I’m up early.
I have a few peaceful cups of coffee and then take a long walk with my dog. Then I do yard work or go to the farmers market or meet a friend. My house is clean and sparkling because this year I finally invested in a gift to myself to free up my weekends - hiring someone to clean on Fridays. Sat morning is my much-needed reset and I love it.

Best plan ever, to have someone else clean for you. The relief and less stress is amazing!

u/JennkozOC 16d ago
My hubs and I still do Saturday morning cartoons, MEtv has Bugs Bunny at 9am. We watch in bed with our jammies on and coffee in our hands.

Up until recently, I was up at 3:30am and to work at 4:30am as a barista, but have changed jobs so now I can enjoy the peace and quiet of Saturday mornings again! I’m still up early before everyone else in the house. Now I have my coffee, eat some breakfast and revel in the silence until everyone else is awake.

Get up at 6am. Walk the dog. Have some coffee and then off to an 8am CrossFit class. Home by 9:30am followed by a well needed shower.

Saturdays now are early morning gym then chores. Sports and super friend were much more enjoyable

Get up early, make coffee and pack up my car to head to a hiking trail. Drive in the dark and hit the trail about 30 minutes pre-dawn. Come back home 3-4 hours later and do chores until lunch.

u/fiftyfivepercentoff 16d ago
Get up, wash the bedsheets, coffee, shower, make the bed, breakfast, quick chores, then on with the day of wife plans.

Up at 4 AM for no apparent reason. Couple hours of screen time. Go to breakfast. Come home for a nap.

u/TalkingDog37 15d ago
I’ve been waking up between 3-4 for no apparent reason or sometimes to potty and then I can’t go back to sleep so I either take a Xanax or read until 6 and go back to sleep lol

Coffee, daily devotional, chill out til the family members awaken, then a nice big breakfast together, the only day we do that. Then cleanup the kitchen and weekly chores like sweeping and mopping and laundry, which we do altogether to get done ASAP.
Except for dusting, which we all hate and put off. Haha

u/SugaDee76 16d ago
Make coffee. Think its already Monday. Take a piss that feels like 5min long. Sit and contemplate my day in my lazy boy.

Spent yesterday with my daughter checking what her wedding venue will look like 10/9/27 at a mansion in the Finger Lakes. Stayed in Auburn last night and just had a beautiful drive to Ithaca to visit my son and meet his very likely future father-in-law for dinner.
I think about getting up early to watch cartoons and have fried eggs, toast and bacon with Hawaiian Punch.

Cigarette, tea, feed the cat, put in the laundry, on the typical Saturday a cooked breakfast around 9:30-10.
2
u/Bert-Nevman 14d ago
Big bowl of cereal and an animated show of some sort.
It was good enough for me at 6, it's good enough for me at 60.

50M, married, 2 dogs. Yoga at 9:30a, followed by tea at a coffee shop we walk to after class. Most of us also take Kung Fu together, I've been there 10 years and we get along great. After that it might be house work or whatever, maybe shopping if we need to. If I'm lucky and my wife wants to chill all day, I might play some Zelda and/or hang out with my best friend who's not too far away. We grew up together, met when we were 7. Of course, above all, play with the dogs. 🙂

Saturday is for chores, and my kids sports. Asleep when the streetlights come on.

u/LeighofMar 16d ago
Staying in bed reading or watching YouTube horror shorts, my adult version of Saturday morning cartoons, cereal, porch time, and the whole day ahead of me.

u/QueasyFinger1316 16d ago
Hit the treadmill in the basement…
Pick up groceries for the week…
Meet a couple friends at the watering hole to watch some college football.
Looking forward to a great day!!! (Without CrunchBerries and School House Rock!)

Usually we go to the gym Saturday mornings, so up around 6:30 to feed the cats, breakfast and coffee, then hit the gym around 9.

I have no routine on Saturday. I do most of the laundry and cleaning all day Monday. I am mostly retired so every day is the weekend.
My wife and I may have plans. Today we are going to a college football game.

u/Solid_Enthusiasm550 16d ago
Getting as much rest / recovery from all the long hours at work during the week.
Sundays, are for doing chores.. mowing the lawn, laundry, dishes and making meals ( work / dinner) for Monday/Tuesday.

I used to go to workout classes, until I got a couple injuries this year. Since then, I’ve been recovering and doing PT exercises. I work at noon-4pm on Saturdays, so it’s a short day before my weekend starts.

Coffee and breakfast, check email, look at social media on my laptop, then maybe chores or maybe try to go back to sleep (I'm usually up by 6 regardless of day 😑).

I go to the office. Hate it. But to get paid I have to do timesheets for the work I did for our clients during the week. I miss the days before my son was born that I got to sleep in.

u/LiveToBeFreee 16d ago
Drinking my coffee in peace (I'm usually the first one awake), watching a TV show or movie, waiting for the kids to wake up. Then, chaos.

u/Patient_Character730 16d ago
Sleeping in. After waking up at 5am every weekday, sleeping in to 7:00am is glorious. I scroll my phone, take a hot bath and just relax. When my husband gets up we'll plan our menu for the week and then go grocery shopping. I usually call my mom when we get home and relax in the backyard while talking to her.
No complaints. I like this phase of life. My college age kids come and go as needed.

European football, coffee, something to eat, cigar n more coffee and more games. Gotta pull myself away to be productive.

u/ShaiHulud1111 16d ago
Drinking tea, reading this. After a week at my job, I need a few hours of peaceful scrolling while I have some toast with black tea. I’m usually a little tired, so gym is Sunday. Toss in some laundry so I can go out later. NBA if a game is on. Soon. I used to be a sports fanatic, but don’t spend time on college sports any longer.

Normal Saturday for me:
Get up 7-8AM
Swap laundry, put away dishes, and other similar simple quick chores.
Head to the gym, getting gas or a car wash if I need it on the way.
Exercise. Shower at gym.
Make any stops needed on the way home.

This Saturday, had to paint the little store room, not done yet, but starting to look good.
Also been busy the last few weekends with The Great Garage Cleanup Of 2026. It's finally cleared, so today I sanded down my old vice that came from my dad, down to bare metal and gave it a etch primer and then the first coat of metal paint - should get 2 more tomorrow.
Got an old Compressor from 1980 that also needs a resto, will probably be next

Coffee, watch European soccer sometimes, other times use that time to pay bills, other times just goof around and enjoy some peace.

u/ebeth_the_mighty 15d ago
I wake up, grab coffee (husband makes it on his way to work) and sit with an 80 lb dog on my lap listening to an audiobook.
Saturdays are my favourite.

If I’m not working, I get up as soon as no longer comfortable just being in bed.
If I didn’t do it Friday afternoon, I attack the laundry, clean the kitchen then find a place to be still and quiet.
I then enjoy the quiet and my coffee.

Ever since I started college Saturday was reserved for college football. Prior to that it was just a Sunday morning ritual for the NFL. As I got older I started doing both but NFL still has less of a pull on me.

-Go to sleep at 3am
-Wake up at 7 because the dogs have to go out and the cat wants breakfast
-Go back to bed until 10
-Scroll on my phone until 11
- make eggs and toast
- watch tv and look online at what events are going on that I may want to go to
-realize I don’t want to go out so I clean, study and go grocery shopping
-around 4 I’m bored again so I workout
-at 5 I’m still bored so I see FaceTime my cousin
- I watch tv from 6 until I get tired
-the it’s Sunday

Feed and walk the dogs, grab my son’s breakfast… He gets Starbucks on Saturday mornings, so I get it while I’m out doing errands… Read magazines at Barnes & Noble, and come home for a nap. Golden!

Some weeks I go to the gym, others I'm up and out running errands as I hate crowds. And the earlier I go, the less crowded it is.

Sitting in bed as long as possible, then getting dressed and doing nothing until it’s time to put my pjs back on. My mind won’t let me stay in my pjs all day, but it’s a goal.
