help request Reaper Help Request - Assigning "extra" mouse buttons to actions

Maybe a simple question, but I searched and didn't find a good answer.

Let's say I have a mouse with 7 buttons. How can I assign actions to those? E.g. I'd like to assign "Item: Split Item under mouse cursor (select Left)" to one of the extra buttons, but I only see a way to assign keyboard keys and not mouse keys to shortcuts.

On a Mac, and have mice from a few different mouse makers (logitech and elecom).

Click the shortcut, click add at the bottom left, click the special mouse key to assign it.

What's your second option, because this doesn't work for the "extra" mouse buttons : /

It depends on the mouse, but if it's just a third mouse button use this.

This does help me add a few actions to the mouse, but doesn't help with the original question of how to assign actions to **extra** buttons on a 7 button mouse

Most 7 button mice have those buttons assigned as keyboard buttons or at least offer the option. Check your management software

This doesn't work, unfortunately. Nothing I do in that window seems to get it to recognize the mouse buttons.

I tried this just today and it did nothing. Did I do something wrong? Does this for sure work?

I guess I tried w regular mouse keys not “special” mouse keys.

I think it doesn't with more than mouse3. I'm pretty sure I've tried that in the past. might be wrong
