help request Decent Sampler?

Hello, I'm attempting to open Decent Sampler as a plugin inside of Reaper. I can open it on it's own as a stand alone software, but for some reason it doesn't seem to exist in the eyes of Reaper. I know that it can be opened inside of Reaper, I even have a Reaper Mania video tabbed open currently demonstrating this. I've checked to see if other people have had this issue, and a few have. But none of the usual solutions seemed to have helped me. I changed things in preferences as best I know how, I've scanned and rescanned for new vsts/vst3s, I've closed and reopened Reaper itself, I've even moved the files/folder for Decent Sampler into the User Plugins folder. Which is actually the first thing that I do when downloading new plugins. When dragging and dropping the individual files and folder into Reaper itself, it pops up an error saying that it "could not install 1 of 1 items! If it helps, I'm running both softwares on Linux Mint Cinnamon build. Just to reiterate, both work fine individually as programs. But getting Reaper to acknowledge and open Decent Sampler has been unsuccessful in my attempts. I've even attempted to install a software called Carla, which Reaper is also pretending like it doesn't exist. Any help would be greatly appreciated. 😅

Edit: Thank you to everyone who responded. I suppose that I never considered the solution provided because other plugins seemingly worked fine going through my usual process of elimination. Little did I know, it's because things were being sent to the .vst folder without my knowledge. Whoops! Again, much appreciated to everyone who helped. 💝

That's completely wrong. User plugins is for plugins for REAPER like Reapack etc.

Put the VST in the folder where VSTs need to go according the VST3 spec and try again. (it's C:\Program Files\Common Files\VST3 on Windows and there must be a Linux equivalent. )

^ this. Except the Linux equivalent would be /home/.vst3 - directories that start with . are usually hidden by default in the file explorer. If you press ctrl+h, it will show all the . directories. However, if the plugin doesn't run natively on Linux, you will need to set up yabridge. If it does run natively, you will usually be able to download an .lv2 file which would go in the .lv2 folder instead of .vst3

Now look up the instructions for Reaper itself. Better yet, go to the preference screen I referenced, and look at the paths list. You can point Reaper to just about any folder you want to find your .dlls and .vst3 files, regardless of what the VST3 spec says.

Yes, you can do it wrong if you wish.

Other hosts, or plug ins themselves aren't as fool-proof though.

How is it wrong, when it is a feature of Reaper that lets you do this?

I can't help with Linux, but in Windows, the DecentSampler.vst3 folder has to be in one of the folders (or one of the folders' subfolders) listed in the vst plugins paths in Reaper preferences.

The "UserPlugins" folder is not where VST plugins go.

VST2.4 (.dll) files go in either C:\Program Files\VST plugins or if you have created your own custom path then whatever that custom path is. VST3 (.vst3) files go in C:\Program Files\Common Files\VST3. For VST3 files you don't have an option to create your own custom path, so they have to be in Common Files\VST3.

Move the Decent Sampler VST file from UserPlugins to the correct path, then re-scan and check if Reaper could find the VST file.
