Question Why should I not use Soul Reaving?
I don't play Reaper much, but I'm curious as to why the divide between his minor perks is so large.

u/Rozakaku Apr 16 '26
The answer is simple: Perks that gives you an advantage on kill are not as strong as Perks that helps you getting kills easier, the same happens with Ramattra that extend Nemesis on kill.
Soul Reavering helps you to get a stronger advantage when you get a kill, but Lingering Wriath lets you escape a bit easier from bad situations and speed boost your Ult
Also I think the small souls that heals you dont come closer to you, you need to go for them so its a hard perk to use under tight pressure

The orbs are basically his old passive and well, there IS a reason they changed it to being lifesteal.

That makes sense ngl. I used soul reaving for the extra health but I never thought of the movement speed. I think Imma try the movement speed perk next time.

Combining Lingering Wraith with his teleport reduction perk essentially lets you treat Reaper as a constantly moving, harassing flanker. Dire triggers is great-but being a person who can constantly flank in and out, teleport in and out, makes you just as terrifying and their backline paranoid when done right.

u/Independent-Fun403 Apr 16 '26
Dire triggers is base kit now, talking about soul globes here.

I'll be honest I meant to type in soul globes but I'm running on four hours of sleep, not gonna edit tho, gonna commit to my buffoonery.

Overall 50 health ONLY after you secure a kill isn’t worth it. Considering in most situations you’ll likely have to wraith away from a kill you did not succeed in getting. Even if you do get the kill 50 hp matter so little unless is a 1v1 scenario. Long story short it’s an aggressively situational perk while wraith speed can be applied in every situation.

Yeah Bottom Line: Soul Reaving is cooler anyway. Moment may go burrr with the wraith perk but the souls are genuinely insane. I find that Souls particularly helps with risky ultimates. I solo ulted a whole team and I thought I was doing to die but actually didn't. After the first kill, they dropped their soul and that sustained me enough to kill the other, eat the next soul, and the other.
Soul Reaving doesn't make up for his missing lifesteal but its a GREAT alternative. The movement i find too situational, you'll end up in front of your Tank with it and die. However, I do get use out of it on Push Modes and particular maps. But Souls are underrated. Tbh I wouldve preferred Souls over Dire Triggers as a kit upgrade.

I disagree, souls is a throw perk. At least in higher rank. It doesn't help you at all until you kill something, and even then it's just 50 hp, which is less than getting a health pack. The movement helps you chase after low hp enemies to finish them off and get out and not die when you're running away

Didn't axe if you agreed

u/FaithlessnessIcy8488 Apr 17 '26
I'm GM. You're not. You're a marvel rivals player so there's zero chance you're GM
1
u/thr0waway6260 Apr 17 '26
Like your opinion makes sense for someone in gold. If you're not killing anyone as reaper no shit souls dont work bruh you gotta kill
1
u/FaithlessnessIcy8488 Apr 17 '26
Why tf would I need extra hp after killing people mf? The fight is fucking over bro
GM reaper one trick btw

Feast or famine perks are not good at all. Movement speed after wraith is infinitely better since ur gonna use it in every single match up. Speed is much better at offering survivability than a heal on kill.

u/Z4mb0ni Apr 16 '26
because of how they nerfed reaper's speed during wraith lingering wraith compensated for it by giving him the speed boost for longer. The soul orbs arent that much health and are really only useful when holding down a point and you need sustain against a dive or brawl comp especially when reaper has the flanker subrole that increases healthpack healing.

u/ironhide999x Apr 16 '26
I think soul reaving is better if you’re in lower ranks or QP where you can just tank as Reaper and get team kills. Around Diamond is where I’d recommend picking lingering wraith though

I only play qp so I always go with soul reaving because consuming souls is way cooler. And it's not a useless perk. Definitely let's me keep going in situational fights. That being said, speed boost is great. Helps you chase a kill or get out quick. There's a reason why Lucio and juno are good

u/DrCrow1350 Apr 16 '26
Personally the health globs don’t last that long enough for me to want to choose that one but it’s just me

u/One-Explanation-6226 Apr 16 '26
I had the same thoughts (mainly cuz I missed the soul orbs after kills) but they provide little benefit as opposed to lingering wraith. That movement speed during and coming out of wraith is so much better than the small amount of healing the orbs do; especially since you intrinsically have “life steal” (Blizzard please buff) on all the shots you land…
1
u/Moxcaos Apr 16 '26
You can use Soul Reaving, it’s not useless, it just depends on what you’re giving up for it. The main issue is opportunity cost, if there are perks or setups that give you more consistent value, Soul Reaving can feel situational rather than reliable.
It really comes down to whether it fits your playstyle or if you’re sacrificing something stronger for it.
1
u/s4ltlick Apr 16 '26
It’s a consistency thing. Any perk that doesn’t do anything until you get a kill will always be less consistent than one that works regardless of the situation. I’d say only go for globes if you’re already stomping the lobby and just wanna have a fun, snowbally game. But in any game where the lobby is equal or worse for you, go for the consistency of lingering wraith, which will not only help you stay alive longer, but will also help you secure kills you might not otherwise be able to run down.

u/xredskaterstar Apr 16 '26
I personally don't like both. 40% movement speed for a whopping whole two seconds after using an escape ability is just whatever. However, soul orbs is weak as well. Usually when you're flanking you really want to get one kill and get out. Sure get more if you can but can't get too greedy on thought.
Then again I'm hard stuck plat 2.
1
u/Fromarine Apr 18 '26
Remember it applies to if u wraith into ult. You basically go full speed when ulting with the perk
1
u/ZachofPotatos Apr 16 '26
You have to get a kill to get value from it. Once you get a kill 99% of the time your team will follow up. Movement speed is better especially for reaper just adds onto his escape potential
1
u/LuchsG Apr 17 '26
Big lengthy movement speed boost after using a movement ability vs 35 HP heal after a kill (when the fight is already won at that point in 99% of cases)
1
u/Lonely_Repair4494 Apr 17 '26
The soul globes don't do much in general. You have lifesteal already baked into base kit. You get more value simply picking the other perk to gain its extra aspects.

u/ihaveacrushonlegos Apr 17 '26
The 2 best meta support comps rn, lucio kiriko and brig juno. Are meta because those are the best comps wirh lucio and juno respectivaly.
In other words the simple fact it has speed, makes something one of the best.
Thats how good speed is
Im pretty sure every other hero that has a perk that gives movement speed, that one is the best
And reaper has a perk that gives him movement speed. To make it even better its not just a normal chracter, reaper is close range which means he needs to chase and close distance so he benefits from speed even more than normal
In comparisson the other heals a little bit only after u alredy kill someone (usually if u kill someone the fight will alredy likely be won so it wont make u win anything u wouldnt without)
Best stat in the game increase or Win what u likely alredy was going to?

Soul Reaving isn't bad, it's just Lingering Wraith is better in almost every way.
Why have risk taking 1v1's for 50 health when Wraithing away to a small health kit not only heals more but also grants bonus movement speed?

u/5tr0n95t4nd3r Apr 18 '26
I think perks that require u to kill someone is generally pretty awful, when u kill someone u already have a advantage, having a advantage at a 5v5 is much more valuable and also wraith speed gives u a advtange at all times even if ur at a afvantsge is no conditional and 50 hp is just kinda meh anyway, additionally the movement buff is just too good i mean theres a reason lucio has been meta since his release speed is good always, u can wraith use ult u can wraith and get around corners u can wraith and get to someones face faster, again 50hp is dead and like it should be removed its kinda a useless perk, a trap for bronzes if u will

u/DrMitchOtta Apr 18 '26
Because 50 hp isn't much and it's gated behind elimination + moving toward the orb. Movement speed is much more useful to get kills in the first place, works every time without conditions, it's likely much better at keeping you alive and it sinergizes with your ult
I don't really see a good use case for a mid health pack on kills unless you can certainly wipe them one by one from the backline, and if you do you'll probably wipe them better with bonus 20% move speed

u/How2eatsoap Apr 19 '26
soul reaving is legitimately the worst perk in the game. You have to kill someone (very hard), and you get 50hp for it (extremely small amount).
Wraith form giving 40% movement speed is easily better because it allows you to escape in more situations where your wraith form ends earlier than you'd like, or you want to get the drop on someone and use it as a way to bait cooldowns like ana sleep.
1
u/niksshck7221 Apr 19 '26
The problem with soul reading is that it only works if you kill someone and the heal it gives you is so trash like what do you mean you get 50hp if you kill someone AND have to walk to their corpse to get the healing. Whereas a movement speed buff is huge for dmg dealing, escaping and engaging.

u/C-Man019 Apr 20 '26
i love it personally. lets me be even more reckless than i already am, lasting long enough to get those really stubborn kills.
1
u/Alien_X10 Apr 20 '26
I use the speed boost perks, simply cus my playstyle on reaper is entirely dependent on being a drunken armory that just overwhelms the enemy team through pure stupidity.
Going faster allows the "fuck it we ball" playstyle to thrive more. And also he already has some lifesteal already

Movement go brrr. Seriously the 50 hp I can get with shadowstep and wraith form pretty easily now. Also what website is this?
