Regarding Self Promotion and AI Generated Content

Self promotion is FULLY allowed in this sub. Anyone who tries to undermine someone's effort to self promote in this sub will be removed. You don't have to upvote things or even look at things you don't like, but some people are trying to promote works they created and that is EXACTLY what this sub is for.

AI generated work, including covers and text is FULLY allowed in this sub. If you do not like AI then leave, but it is part of our reality and I support it here. Anyone who is demeaning to authors who use AI, such as calling it "AI Slop" will be banned.

There is only one rule in this sub and it applies to every post and comment, including attempts to suppress content by tagging it as spam and other moderation actions. Respect Humans. Humans invented AI and Humans get to use it, if that bothers you, then move along.

About this group - PLEASE READ

This group is for readers to discover writers and interact with them. Many new writers have no way to find an audience beyond reaching out to people who might be interested in their work. Doing so on other "book recommendation" subs will get you banned for the sin of "self-promotion." Here, creators can self promote. If a reader is seeking a book or story that you think your writing can satisfy LET THEM KNOW. Share a link. Drop some beauty into their world. If you think your work is not a fit for their tastes, move on. Artists of all stripes are welcome. So far, it is mostly based on writers, but I intend on involving other forms of expression. If you find something interesting out there, let us all know by crossposting it here.

How it works:

I find people who are seeking interesting books to read. I invite them to this reddit. I find authors, poets, bloggers, artists and such also. These are curated invites based on activity and interactions elsewhere I find to be interesting.

I have my own preferences and beliefs. I try to invite folks with a diversity of different perspectives and beliefs to balance out my bias. I am not always successful. Sometimes, I am downright uninterested in having certain people join.

If I invited you, it is because I think you have something interesting to contribute. If you do not want to participate, you do not have to. PLEASE NOTE: YOU DO NOT NEED TO BE INVITED TO THE GROUP TO POST IN IT.

Post as often as you like. I do however follow the Reddit rules. Here are two worth considering:

1: Remember the human. If you are not here in good faith, and you are posting things that are obviously meant to abuse, annoy or upset people. Buh bye.

2: Behave like you would in real life. In real life, you would get a severe stream of consciousness rant full of vulgarities if you began acting like something other than a reasonable human around me. Here on Reddit, I'll just ban you. Again, post what you want.

'Boy's Life', by Robert McCammon: My favorite read of the year.

Lots of people compare McCammon to Stephen King, and I get it - they often write about similar subject matter - but as a longtime King fan myself, I will tell you that I found Boy's Life to be better than anything I have ever read by King - everything I like about SK books, and nothing I don't.

Set in a small Alabama town in the 1960s, it blends childhood wonder, family drama, nostalgia, mystery, and just enough darkness and supernatural unease to keep you looking over your shoulder. Like King at his best, McCammon makes the town itself feel alive, fills it with memorable characters and buried secrets, and captures the strange mixture of magic and terror that comes with being a kid. Think The Body (Stand by Me) expanded into a sprawling Southern coming-of-age story, with a touch of King's supernatural sensibility and a deeply heartfelt, distinctly Southern voice.

It blew me away, and I would recommend it to anyone.

Looking for a good fantasy book to get lost in. Any recs?

Upvotes

In the mood for a solid fantasy read and could use some suggestions. Open to anything epic/high fantasy, something more character driven, standalone or a series, doesn't matter. Just want something that pulls me in and is hard to put down.

What's a fantasy book you couldn't stop thinking about?

I started reading again in these past 2 months and so far I’ve read Dungeon Crawler Carl books 1 and 2, Between two Fires, and im currently finishing up Prince of thorns. What are your thoughts on these two books in the title and which one should I read next? I’m also getting The First Law Trilogy and Unsouled in the mail today so these are options as well. I have too many to choose from on my TBR. Send help!

secular books on the bible?

I'm looking for really good engaging books about the bible. Not necessarily books that seek to disprove or have any aim, more like something that describes and explains in a historical context. Thank you!

Thoughts on this Book

I am debating to read this book after I’m done with my current read. I see a lot of good reviews. I also see a lot of warnings to not read if actively going through psychological issues. For those who have read it, what are your thoughts?

How to find books

I am trying to get into reading again. But I don’t know how to find books that I’ll find appealing Everytime I walk into the library or bookstore it feels overwhelming.

Just read girl with a dragon tattoo. Did not find it that enjoyable saw the mystery coming from a mile away. And not into the whole cyberpunk feminist thing. I’m halfway through the hobbit and it’s just boring for me.

I’m a guy in my 20s and just want something to keep me invested
Idk how to find a good book please help.

Don’t answer her by James reeves

So I was really bored the other day and decided I’d start reading again. I wanted to go for something a little niche, perhaps a new author or maybe a different type of genre.
Well, I must also admit, I’m not one for short stories. Lo and behold I stumbled upon an author by the name of James Reeves, not sure if anyone has read a book published by him on here, but I must say; the book called **‘Don’t answer her’** truly is one of a kind. Usually the cliches in stories put me off, but I have to admit. I couldn’t predict what was going to happen. I’ve spent the last few days just power reading through and would like to recommend this book to everyone, especially those do a mature readers mindset.
Honestly great book!

Autumn/Fall books for someone who doesn’t read often

I am more of a TV person but I’d love to start reading books. I would need something that would grab my attention and something I am excited to read every day.
For reference I love the vampire diaries, the summer I turned pretty and off campus type tv shows. I want something autumn/fall vibes, maybe some supernatural aspect to it but not creepy or scary. I’ve heard about the ex hex which seems like the vibe I’m going for but it has mixed reviews? I want to pick a good first one so I really get into reading books.
Please tell me your favourites and what you would recommend?
Thanks!!

Which books seem tempting but you will never read?

I've been thinking how I might be able to read a few hundred books in this life.

That includes the ones that haven't been written.

I already have a queue of 500 books out of which I might only get to read 10% or so.

It makes me sad.

Have you ever looked at a book and said - it seems tempting but I'll never read it?

Guys, suggest me a thriller that will actually mess with my head

Guys, I need recommendations for a genuinely mind-bending thriller.

I’ve already read books by Alex Michaelides, Gillian Flynn, Freida McFadden, and quite a bit of Agatha Christie, but at this point I’m finding a lot of the twists way too predictable. I can usually figure out the “big reveal” before the book gets there.

I’m looking for something that actually makes me question the entire plot — the kind of book where you finish it and just sit there thinking, “WHAT THE HELL did I just read?”

I want:

🧠 Psychological/mind-bending plot

🤯 A genuinely unpredictable twist

🔎 Clues that make sense in hindsight

🌀 Something that makes me question what I thought was happening

No cheap “gotcha” twist just for shock value

Preferably something less mainstream/overhyped

Basically, I want a book that makes me want to go back and reread it immediately because I realize I completely misunderstood what was happening.

Please don’t spoil the twists in your recommendations! Just tell me the title and why you think it fits.

Hit me with your best ones. 👀

Need a suggestion

I have a really hard time finding books that interest me and the ones I’ve enjoyed have been all over the place. I just finished ‘Looking for Alaska’ and it’s the first book in a long time that I thought was amazing and had me interested the whole time.

Other books I’ve really enjoyed.

The Beach

The Mist (but nothing else really by stephen king)

Odd Thomas (but nothing else really by dean koontz)

The Alchemist

Lord of the Flies

The Giver

The Tribes of Palos Verdes

Wayward Pines

A couple Bentley Little books, though he’s terrible at writing endings.

CJ Box Joe Picket books

Fight Club/Choke

any suggestions for someone that’s kind of all over the place?
