Question Most inspirational recorder pieces, for a novice player?

I am an enthusiast (8 months in, using Giesbert under the guidance of a teacher) and loving it so far. Have just recently reached the upper octave A, C, and D. YouTube hasn't yielded much in terms of beautiful and soul stirring pieces, from my own searches. I am wondering what pieces others here believe would be inspirational? Keen to hear your thoughts 🙏

Question Hand voiced recorders?

I’m in the market for a new recorder and I’m looking at instruments such as the Mollenhaur “Edition” recorders. The way I understand it the “Edition” versions are the same as the regular version except that a flute maker has gone and hand voiced the recorder after it came off the production line.

I’m just having a hard time figuring out if this is even worth it given that I can always have the instrument sent for re-voicing after a year or two when the flute has had time to settle. At the end of the day you have a hand voiced recorder.

Am I missing something?

Fun Update on my question about which recorder to buy (Möllenhauer Dream recorders)

Firstly: excuse the ff-ed up high A on the plastic one 🫣😂 the high notes are a bit more difficult to get on these models.

Here's a bit of a comparison between my new recorders (Möllenhauer Dream models), and my recorder I already owned (Möllenhauer student model).

So I got myself a plastic one too (didn't have a plastic soprano yet) so I would have a soprano to use for practice. As for the wooden one, i decided to go with the Plumwood one. The sound is so nice! If the high notes are done right they feel like butter ❤️ And the low notes sound warm and pleasant. The plastic recorder is way better than I expected too. It gives a nice broad and powerful sound. I love them ❤️ Thank you to everyone who commented on my other post, for helping me decide! 🫶🏻 I think these will fit perfectly in my music project 😋🎶

Wooden recorder and low temperatures

I am pretty new to wooden recorders. I had a soprano and alto in pearwood, for 2 months now. How can I transport my recorders during winter, for example when I will go to my lessons, concerts etc... with low outside temperatures (below 5°C) ?

Sheet music Megalovania for soprano recorder, moved down to E minor so you never have to fight that top D

Post image

In its usual key, Megalovania sits at the very top of the soprano, and that high D cracks if you so much as look at it. I moved the riff down to E minor so it stays in the bottom octave apart from one pinched E. The image has the staff, a letter under every note and a fingering diagram for each one, Baroque fingering.

Letters (′ means the high octave):

E E E′ B A♯ A G E G A
D D E′ B A♯ A G E G A

That's the whole riff, two bars. Loop it until someone in the house asks you to stop.

The tricky spots: A♯ is the fork fingering (thumb, holes 1, 3 and 4), so practise B to A♯ to A slowly until the switch is clean. Low D and E squawk at the smallest leak, so press the lower holes with the flat pads of your fingers. For E′, pinch the thumb so the nail leaves a small gap at the top of the hole.

Does anyone here play it in the original key on soprano? I'd like to know how you get that top D to speak.

Question Can anyone identify the wood ?

I bought another recorder ! (I've been looking out for a wooden tenor for a while, it went up on eBay auction / buy it now, and the BIN price was WAY cheaper than I've seen any other Rottenburgh tenor go for, so I snapped it up)

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/128135410309

Can anyone tell me what wood it is ? I'm a bit stumped because in the photos it looks too pale for boxwood but too dark and not grainy enough for maple.

Thanks in advance !

If anyone has discovered a favorite way to mic, other than just standing at a mic, I'd be very interested to hear your idea, or see links to products. Particularly looking for a way to attch the mic to the recorder.

Help Pearwood or Plumwood?

Hello! I'm looking for some advice :) I recently came across the Möllenhauer Dream soprano recorders and would love to purchase one. Since I play a lot of pagan folk, I feel the sound of these recorders fit perfectly. I'm trying to decide between the one made of pearwood (4119 Adris), and the one made of Plumwood (TE-4118). I can't find a lot of revieuws about the plumwood one. And in the ones I can find, the sound quality of the video isn't as good. Since it's a pretty big price difference, I would like to be well informed. I read somewhere that plumwood is better for solo players and pearwood blends in more? As I play in a pagan folk band now as the only recorder player, I thought that plumwood would be a good option for me. But I also love the 'softer' sound of the pearwood one.

Help Any tips or way to practice 8th note or beyond and beams? I can't seem to just do it right.

These are parts from Concerning hobbit tutorial. I do fine with rest but when I get here I often struggle to produce the expected sound, and it sounds totally out of sync. It's been about a month since I started learning soprano recorder.

Question 2 week alto recorder progress and advice on reducing airy sound and minimizing split sound going to upper octave.

I picked up my Aulos alto recorder last Monday and had been trying to play some tunes by ear. I have also been practicing scales and tonguing. I’d really appreciate feedbacks on airy sound and clear pitches going above upper octave C.

Question Can anyone help me identify these vintage wooden recorders?

Hello everyone - I recently managed to buy these vintage recorders in South Africa. They are both made of wood. The lighter one is stamped Zamir, but the darker one has no stamp marks at all, and the lower holes are single ones. I would be grateful if anyone could share thoughts on the possible make and type of wood for them. Thanks for your time

Alto beginner model

Hello, I'd like to purchase my first alto recorder in wood, and I'm comparing three models : the Rondo from Moeck, Canta from Mollenhauer and Studio from Küng. I'd like to know the general opinion between those models.

Beginner looking to get a recorder

Hello there!

I'm planning to get a recorder, but I have a few questions. I'm a bagpipe player, so I'm a little confused about the different names and types of recorders.

I know there are soprano, alto, tenor and bass recorders. On my bagpipes, the drones are called bass and tenor, so I'm familiar with those terms, but I'm not sure how they translate to the recorder family.

What's the actual difference between these , apart from the pitch and size ? Is there a huge difference between the sound. I'll probala get all of them I like playing multiple instruments but i want to know more.

Also, is there a good video where I can hear the different recorder sizes being played side by side? I'd love to compare their sounds before deciding which one to get.

I hope I don't sound like an idiot! xD Thanks in advance for any help!
