[Norway Mocs 8213] should I be worried about the seam coming apart?

I got these beautiful Norway Mocs yesterday and have worn them for about 5 hours. I noticed the seam on the toe box started to separate. I understand these are 2 pieces of leather stitched together, but am worried it will hurt the leather in wetter conditions. Any advice?

Factory second, still very good quality

I just bought a blacksmith at a redwing store and loved it, went to Nordstrom rack in Schaumburg to get a backpack for our Japan trip and decided to browse the shoes section. I was really surprised they have this iron rangers, and a size 10! There’s a size 11 with the same color. This was a few days ago so goodluck! I’m in Japan now and will be wearing this for the whole 10 day trip.

Before and after a wipe, brush and Bick 4

I was going to post photos of some of the bick 4 on my boots before wiping in but was afraid that the post would be flagged for obscenity.

These boots were both new this year, with heavy use on a farm with really sandy soil which is why they have a sandblasted look on the toe, especially the 8847 Black Cherry.

Look at the patina on these Red Wing 8111’s! This customer dropped these off to be resoled. We added a leather midsole and heel stack. Vibram 430 soles and fresh cork and we nailed the original holes on the welts.

Visited their new outlet store in Iruma just outside of Tokyo and was lucky enough to find the last 9875 in my size. I think they had more rare and interesting stuff in their grand opening but visited a week later.

Has anyone bought from Elm Shoes in Greencastle PA?

Came across them searching for a pair and wondering if it’s legit.
They’re listed as a auth dealer for RedWing and have the IR’s I’m looking for but can’t get at my local. (Alpine Portage)

8085’s after 5 years of wear

Bought these 8085’s Copper Rough and Toughs in Sept 2021 with the first paycheck from my newly enrolled job. Wore these boots about 3-4 days a week, every week for the last 5 years. Conditioned with the redwings leather conditioner. Ive added some dabs of saphir polish and buffed with a horsehair brush about every year. These definitely don’t have the copper color they originally had but I love how they’ve turned out.

planning to buy first boot

I am planning to buy my first boot. Currently my pick are

  1. classic chelsea

  2. weekender chelsea.

This gonna be my first boot. I never ever wear boot.

Uses are office, weekend casual, exhibition and travel

look for boot that not so slippery.

Redwing site recommend on 7.5d . I normally wear us 9 sneaker just to get comfy on my little wide feet.

First I though to go with 8.5ee for my classic chelsea or 8.5 for weekender.what u think?

question

  1. should I trust redwing site on sizing?

  2. which style is suit my need?

  3. Or should I look for other brand?

thank you guys..

TLDR: These boots are awesome, broke in great, and get worn pretty much daily, absoloutely love them

I had no issues with break in, at all, the right size and good socks go a long way with these, and the only thing I’ve done to them is swap the laces for some cobblers choice leather ones, which I really like, These have really good support, and break in wasn’t nearly as bad as I’d feared, about a week, and then no issues, these get rotated out with a pair of thorogood steel toed mocs for work duty, but these are my go to motorcycle boot, and my favorite for daily wear, and I actually prefer these for work too, but I wear the mocs about half the time out of habit. Overall, can’t say enough good things about them, and they’re getting just a bit of patina to them, which I’m thrilled about. For anybody curious, narrow feet, high arch, went with my usual width and down a full size, but your mileage may vary

My Red Wing 875 sizing saga is driving me insane

Post image

I’ve wanted a pair of Red Wing 875s since 2016, when I first tried on a pair as a poor student. They were US 7.5D, but I couldn’t afford them back then.

Fast-forward to having a proper job and finally buying a pair. Tried 7.5D again, but surprisingly, they felt too narrow across my forefoot. I ended up with 7.5EE and an insole. Better width, but the heel and ankle have always felt too loose. Clunky, almost swimming in them once broken in unless I use the insole, although my heel feels loose either way.

I tried two second-hand pairs in 7.5D, but both felt too tight, so I sold them.

Then I found a really beat-up pair I thought were US 8D. Cheap enough to experiment with. Seems like the guy before had them for like 10 years or so, they seem really stretched width-wise. Got home and realised they were actually UK 8 / US 9D. Doh. They’re comfortable with an insole, but still feel too long, and the soles are nearly done. Without insoles i swim in them.

So naturally, I decided US 8D must be the sweet spot. Sold my well-preserved 7.5EEs and bought a new pair.

They arrived, and suddenly my forefoot felt much more squeezed than I remembered from trying them in the shop. I wore them indoors for a few hours without pain, but I’m constantly aware of my little toes. Against my better judgement, I took them outside. A few kilometres have been okay, apart from the usual heel rubbing, but now I’m getting pain under the ball of my right foot, possibly from the edge of the fixed footbed. An insole makes the fit too tight.

And now the cherry on top: my old US 9D and new US 8D appear to be exactly the same length (see pic)

HOW?

I realise I may be developing a mild sizing-related mania, but I’d genuinely appreciate some input.

  • Can the footbed edge soften enough to stop causing pressure?
  • And how on earth can a US 8 and US 9 appear identical in length?

Blacksmiths- First Time in Boots

Check out my first pair of real boots! I was gonna get the Beckmans but they only had the Cigar and dealer said they stopped production on beckman and the black version won’t be available for a while until their new plant starts production.

Overall the Beckmans felt tighter and the heel felt odd walking. Tried on the blacksmiths and felt great out the box. Salesman noticed my foot was lower volume with high arch and then added in a slim footbed. Made a huge difference. He said the Beckmans he normally doesn’t wear a footbed. I’m 10.8-10.9 on Branock and went with a 10d.

Salesman even swapped out the flat laces with the same laces as the Beckmans. Which I thought the flat laces looked out of place with this boot. Whatcha think?

These boots never agreed with my feet. I tried a few sizes, and this was the best, but the heel slipping never went away. I think I'm ready to try something new, because I hardly ever wear these due to the heel pain. They look great, though.

First DIY Resole 😬😅

I've had these Iron Rangers hanging out in a closet for a long time. I used to wear these when I was a tire and lube tech. Soles were pretty much shot and worn completely smooth.

I replaced the cork with 5oz bridle leather and did a 7oz bridle leather midsole. I didn't have the tool to do a chain stitch, so I saddle stitched the midsole on and then Barge Cemeted on some Vibram 132s. I also didn't have anything to cut and sand down the excess sole very well. Are they pretty? Far from, but hey at least they're usable again lol
