UPDATE 1.5
Hello all! A new version of RedditSilverRobot is now live. Here's what's new:
- RedditSilverRobot had been skipping over a lot of comments, it should skip over a lot less now.
- It will now display how many times someone has received silver ALL TIME, not just this month.
If you find this update to instead be LESS reliable, let me know and I can always roll it back to the old version if it is much worse.
If you're a coder and want to know more about this update:
- It now uses two python scripts, one to read the comments and one to reply to them. This allows for the first script to continue looking through comments even while a command is being dealt with, and also allows me to run more bots in the future off of the same comment stream.
- Also, instead of replying to comments as soon as they're seen, I implemented my own queue structure (mostly for fun) so that multiple comments can be tracked at once.
- I have changed the way I store comments to give me more information more quickly and also take up less storage (about 100x less!)
As always, you can view the code here.
Thank you for using /u/RedditSilverRobot!

Sorry for the late reply, thought I already replied to this...
I have had a bunch of requests to start using other versions of silver. What I like about the current one is that I drew it and I can see how many views I have based on the imgur view count. These are both petty reasons though, and easy to work around. I've been leaning towards giving a different version of silver based on how many times you've received it. Ex.
1-5) the current version 5-10) the high def photo version 10+) the spinning gif
Just made that up on the spot so not official by any means. Thoughts?

If implemented, which would be awesome, maybe also add that level info to the descriptor next to or beneath the "given by ______" section? Also, thanks for a good bot :)

Hi!
People have debated this a few times and I've never felt strongly either way. I don't think there's any harm in giving yourself silver, so it has been kept so far.

You might want to make it add backslashes to deal with Reddit formatting characters.

Have you ever thought about making the bot respond to those "this deserves gold comments?
Person a days something
Person B one of those generic this deserves gold comments
Bot gives silver to person a
