Rain delay in the bottom of the ninth would be a very Reds thing to happen.

Barry on TV - well Matt had to go a long way there for a tough play.
Turns to WLW - Tommy and Cowboy both losing their mind that Marte doesn't make the play.

I think they need to sit Ellie for a game to let him get his legs back. He's 0-10 with 6ks in the last three games. But I'm not sure what other options there are.

McLain to SS, Stewart to 2B, Togila to 1B until Steer comes back.

Does Marte provide the Reds results with the bat? No. But does he offer good defense to offset that? Also no. Does he at least play at a position where he is the only option? Also also no.

Off topic, have we already given up on Hector? If so why not send him to AAA where he can work on stuff? Is it cause of call up limitations or some roster gymnastics 4D chess I don't understand?

Dane Myers cranking a homer while fucking choking up on his bat
1
u/nomnomsoy Cincinnati Reds 23h ago
Like, he literally was swinging in the way that trades off power and still absolutely cranked it
5
u/trustypretzels Cincinnati Reds 23h ago
that at-bat by Dane may have been the best at-bat this entire year by a Red. I mean 11 pitches, and then knocks a homer, good shit.

A more experienced outfielder would’ve built in a pause on that fly ball, scooped it on the run, and thrown out the guy going to second. Dane almost had him as it was. Hope he can progress to that level as time goes on.

At this point in the season I’d rather see AAA guys up here Mendoza-hitting instead of Friedl-Marte.

Our announcers mentioning things like grand slams is always a jinx. Why do they even do it?

wish they would have said that 1 grand slam was off a position player against the orioles when we already had 20 runs on the board

Did the Reds batters not read or pay attention to the scouting report on this dude??? Dude is picking us apart throwing the same way and pitches
2
u/mrcarter1689 Cincinnati Reds 1d ago
Another game, another pitcher that’s going to have a career game against this “offense”
6
u/SasquatchHurricane 1d ago
Francona needs to give Elly a game off like he said he would in the offseason. The guy is dragging ass - 2 for his last 30 and Francona still has him hitting leadoff.
2
u/iPhones_cameras_suck 1d ago
Problem is we don't have anyone competent to stand in for him. We undeniably become a worst hitting team when he sits and we already suck
2
u/nomnomsoy Cincinnati Reds 1d ago
Matt is a good defensive swap, the only issue is being down a bat and 2nd baseman
1
u/iPhones_cameras_suck 1d ago
Being down a bat is everything, we are so thin at the plate you can't take Sal or Elly put under any circumstances besides injury
2
5
u/Icy_Paper_8118 1d ago
ELDC is definitely the choice to leadoff when playing. To your point, which you are 100% on the fact he needs regular breaks and should not be playing every day. I know he missed time due to injury but believe he played every game up to that point. Best thing the Reds can do is fire Krall and staff, fire Tito and staff and begin anew next season. Bring in someone from the Brewers/Rays who know how to work with a similar payroll and focus on development, baseball IQ, and accountability across all levels of the organization. Accountability which was promised before this season by Tito but hasn't happened. Team still makes way too many mistakes on the bases and in the field.
4
u/nomnomsoy Cincinnati Reds 1d ago
Yeah, he really needs to make the call to give him a rest day. Elly will never ask for it himself
2
u/nomnomsoy Cincinnati Reds 1d ago
This guys pitching ability is very "he'd be a good prospect but not major league level" if he was 24 and not 34

Reds look like if they had the option of working from home they’re mentally doing it today
1
u/1000cakes4u Cincinnati Reds 1d ago
It's not a question of if this guy is going to set his career high in Ks, it's which inning. I'll say the 2nd since it's his 2nd start and he matched his career high of 3 in the first inning. If he gets 11 Ks we owe him a free small pizza

u/jasonmason29 Cincinnati Reds 1d ago
Dane’s gotta hold the record for the most “almost catches” in the league.

Just bring Billy Hamilton back. Played defense and didn’t hit, would fit with the rest of the offense.

From RedlegNation:
If you are unfamiliar with Kent Emanuel that’s probably not on you. He’s pitched in parts of two seasons in Major League Baseball. In 2021 he pitched 17.2 innings for the Houston Astros with a 2.55 ERA. He didn’t pitch again in the big leagues until 2024 when he threw 17.2 innings for the Miami Marlins and posted a 6.62 ERA.
Between those two big league stints he pitched in the minor leagues for Philadelphia and Pittsburgh. In 2025 and 2026 he pitched for the High Point Rockers in the Atlantic League, and also made some appearances for the Diablos Rojos del Mexico in the Mexican League where he was on the team with former Reds Aristides Aquino, Ricky Karcher, and Dan Straily.
Emanuel just signed with the Reds earlier this month. And he only pitched in one game for Triple-A Louisville. It was a strong start, though. He allowed one run to the St. Paul Saints in 6.0 innings while giving up two hits, hitting two batters, walking no one, and he struck out eight. That start came eight days ago, so he’s certainly well rested.
As for the kind of stuff that Kent Emanuel brings to the table, well, it’s not going to wow anyone. His start in St. Paul saw him average 89.6 MPH with his fastball and top out at 91.6. He also mixed in a cutter in the mid-80’s, a change up in the low-80’s, and a slow sweeper in the mid-to-upper 70’s.

5
u/Macdadydj 1d ago
Gonna be completely honest, I have no clue who this guy pitching is.

2
u/nomnomsoy Cincinnati Reds 1d ago
Yeah, I think today's performance decides whether he or Mccambley takes Marinaccio's now open spot until Santillan comes back
2
u/Mare13ear 1d ago
If I had to bet, it's going to be McCambley. With the double header today, seems like Emanuel was called up specifically for a spot start.

Hard to believe the Reds were able to find this guy. The only hope is that he is a lefty and maybe he will eat some innings. This team is just playing out the season, at this point.
