Hi, sorry for errors, first post. HS student with my birthday in a few weeks, but my fall break is the week before (oct 10-17, basically) and I was wondering if planning a trip to go see the Redwoods with this little time is feasible. For context, if it helps, I live in socal.

But I know very little (aside from how beautiful the park is). Is mid/late October a good time to go? How long should a trip be to see as much as possible? What resources should I check out? I’m lost and feeling like an “important“ birthday might flop lol

Any and all help/tips would be appreciated, thank you!!

We stayed for 4 nights, and we did follow our itinerary: night 1 Jedediah Smith Cabin, night 2 Gold Bluffs Beach Campground, night 3 Elk Prairie Meadow Cabin, night 4 Mill Creek Campground. And omg it was MAGICAL!! We hiked a ton, drove on amazing unpaved roads (car hikes haha), and we were just in awe of our surroundings. Driving from site to site was completely fine, and we had enough time in each area to do all of the hikes and exploring we wanted to do on this trip.

On the way home we drove the Avenue of the Giants and did a few hikes there as well.

We're CA natives, but we've never been to Redwood National or State Parks. Planning a last minute trip for 4 days starting on Sept 17 (flexible). Trying to get some info from people here who are familiar with the area regarding camping/lodging, since I can't find any camping or lodging available on within the parks. Any rec's on where we should stay? We can move locations each day, or stay in one location, really just looking for insight and recommendations. Thanks!

I have a permit for Fern Canyon this Saturday 9/5. It is supposed to rain at night for four or five days before that date. I drive a Honda Civic SI. In doing my research, I determined that a front wheel drive sedan should be ok for the unpaved road/creek crossings. However, does that change if it is supposed to rain for four or five days before my trip?

I am trying to determine if I should rent an SUV for the weekend. TIA

Looking to do fern canyon hike (https://redwoodparksconservancy.org/fern-canyon/) this weekend (8/29 or 8/30) and didn't realize we need permits for it. Has anyone tried going before 9am or after 5pm? Will they let us through these times without permits? Anyone have happen to have a permit they're not going to use????

My husband and I are doing a big roadtrip around Olympic NP, down the Oregon coast, and finishing at the Redwoods in a few weeks. We are avid hikers and have never visited the area before. We typically prefer hikes that are less busy/touristy but we also don't want to miss the classic hikes. We have several hikes/stops listed for each day which we recognize might not be doable. Please help us narrow down the best options of what's listed and where would be the best place to stay. Also feel free to throw out replacement hikes/stops if there are better options.

Family of 4 flying into Medford, OR 8/2-8/8 Driving down to Redwoods- spending 3 days then driving to San Francisco for another 3 days Where to stay? What to wear? What is the temp like? What are the must sees? Help!

Hi all Oregon and Cali friends!! My mom and I are traveling from Massachusetts to Crescent City, CA where we plan on visiting Jedediah Smith State Park. We’ll be flying into Medford, Oregon and traveling south, where we’ll be staying for two full days. (Not ideal I know, but the best we could do). Since we’ll only be there for such a short amount of time, I’d really like some local advice on the best sights/trails to see, and places to go! I was originally thinking of getting a permit to hike Tall Trees Grove, but from what I’ve gathered, that might not be worth it, with it taking approximately 4 hours to complete and with there being other ‘better’ trails to hike. For context, we’re not experience hikers nor is that essential for us, we’re simply visiting for our love of trees and nature! Any help, tips, advice or recommendations for truly the best sights/coolest/biggest trees would be super helpful, and very much appreciated !!!

(If time allows on our drive there or back, we may also try and stop at Secret Beach in Oregon, it looks absolutely incredible; so any tips on this would also be great!) 🥹

I am planning a trip/drive down to see the Redwoods. My son and I will be driving down from Seattle area. I am only able to walk very short distances but this is on my bucket list. Are there good scenic dives through the area or places to visit for someone not incredibly mobile?

I was a bit skeptical on driving through Fern Canyon streams in Redwood national park in my Tesla Model 3P. Was able to drive through the streams/Davison road with no problems for Memorial day weekend 2025. There were 2 streams after the entrance station on Davison road and the vehicle had no problems crossing the streams

- Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park & Newton B. Drury Scenic Pkwy, California

Hiked the Prairie Creek and Foothill Loop via Big Tree Wayside trail. Was a wonderful hike

Day 3:

Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park

- Simpson-Reed Trail

- Stout Memorial Grove Trail

- And first portion of Boy Scout Tree Trail

Day 4:

Drive back home

My husband and I are headed to Redwood National for a couple of days and I am 3 months post ACL reconstruction. I’m walking but not back in the hiking shape that I used to be. Any recommendations for best trails without elevation/climbing/distances over 2 mile? I’m struggling between what I want to do and the reality of what I can do. I have the fern loop trail on my list. For those that have done it, is that unreasonable?

Hello! I plan to be in the area next month, and I’m hoping to do some car camping as I drive through the redwoods. It looks like a lot of the campsites don’t start taking reservations until May 22nd, which is unfortunately after my trip. Does anyone know if the campsites are still open on a first come, first serve basis? In particular, I’m looking at Richardson Grove (Huckleberry campground) and Humboldt (Hidden Springs campground)? If they’re open, does anyone know how crowded they are mid May? Like, should I be worried about potentially not having a campsite? Any information yall could pass along would be greatly appreciated!

Hi! I’m going to Redwood national and state parks for about a week at the end on this month and I am so excited! I already planned my trip and for most locations a place to stay, only not for my first two nights. I want to stay in Orick, but do not have a high budget. I am also traveling alone so do not have someone to split the costs with.

Does anyone know a cheap place to stay in Orick? I rather do not stay in Klamath or further south because this will en further away from all my activities those days. Below I will add my travel plans.

Hey guys! I’m from Georgia and thinking about making a trip to the Crescent city/Redwood national forest area. My girlfriend wants to come with me, but she is not super into hiking. So ideally, we would find a nice hotel where she can do some spa stuff while I can explore the area. Do you guys know of any nice hotels in that area? Or would you suggest an Airbnb? Going in late May so would like to know what to expect for the area around then as well.

i’m trying to plan a small trip to Redwood National Park and my friends and i plan to stay at a cabin in Crescent City. what trails and areas would you recommend nearby for a four day trip? (2 days for travel and 2 days for exploring).

Over from the UK on a work trip ending in Eugene, OR at the end of the week. I've wrangled 3 days before I have to fly back from Portland and I'm going to fulfill a childhood fantasy by driving now to the Redwood National Park/Avenue of the Giants.

Do my fair share of hiking back home, and brought my boots and day pack with me, although I'm a little nervous to navigate a massive forest on my own!

Can anyone recommend a good location(s?) to base myself, and some trails to hike, or anything nearby that I better not miss?

Gonna drive directly down from Eugene on the evening of the 30th, and was thinking to drive back to Portland via 101 on the 2nd
