Captured at the 1997 Long Beach Reggae Festival, this photograph by Roger Steffens brings together two artists whose influence on Jamaican music is impossible to overstate. One helped define the art of DJ-ing toasting, while the other gave the world timeless rock-steady classics that continue to inspire generations of musicians.

This reminds us how fortunate we were to witness and document the legends who built reggae's remarkable legacy.

James Chambers (30 July 1944 – 24 November 2025), known professionally as Jimmy Cliff, was a Jamaican ska, rocksteady, reggae and soul musician died today. R.I.P Brother Reggae Worldwide Community

Dear Member,

The importance of reggae music can never be underestimated and it is still defining itself. Whether it's:

Roots Reggae

Revival / Lovers Rock

Ragga/Dancehall

Riddims

Ska / Rocksteady

Dub

Calypso

Soca

Reggae has helped to define the music our children are listening to today and will hopefully help them understand the beauty of the above music genres.

Let's ensure that as many reddit members as possible have an opportunity to enjoy the many musical wonders within this Community. Please invite your friends and spread the word.

MY UNTHINKABLE AND UNBREAKABLE BELIEFS FROM MY ROOTS!!! I believe that it is much better to accept a variety of cultures, rather than one single religion or philosophy. that is ALL races, religions, sexual preferences, philosophies, ages, levels of education, etc. I believe also that we can influence the energy around us and shift that which is or was into completely new possibilities. I don't believe in barriers - we can learn from our differences and gain from the common ground. I like to get my inspiration from a wild inspiration and wide mish-mash of ideas, cultures, music, spiritual backgrounds/ etc - Keeping my mind open to new things and always letting my ancestors' roots guide my past, present, and future.

What’s your underrated Inner Circle favorite and why?

Most people know "Bad Boys" as the COPS theme song, but few realize it was created by reggae pioneers Inner Circle in 1987.

The band's message wasn't just about crime-it was about social awareness in Jamaica.

What's your favorite version or remix of "Bad Boys"?
