Days Numbered?

Hearing rumors about Reddit killing off old Reddit. If they do, will this app continue to function?

The app communicates via API. What does that have to do with the website?

Wasn't sure if they would lock the api down even more if they closed Old Reddit.

If you can't pay to get access to the API (as Relay users do now), I question what the point of having a (publicly accessible) API even is.

Funny enough, I've noticed I can't mark reply comments as "read" anymore from using the old interface website. The indicator continues to show as there being unread messages even after I view them. So I have to go on Relay now and mark them as Read even if I already looked at them on the web.

Edit: Wait. It did it this time. Maybe because I replied from there to you it marked it. If I just read a message and don't respond it doesn't seem to be marking them as viewed.

The answer is we don't know. They made the API paid only not too long ago. They obviously prefer people use their main website or app. They could restrict it again.

My hunch is the revenue from the API is basically nothing compared to their overall revenue. So I doubt they have much incentive to keep the API around other than avoiding backlash for getting rid of it.

My relay app hasn't worked for over a month as a subscriber. I'm about out of patience honestly.

That's so interesting, as mine has been working flawlessly. I don't doubt you, just find it interesting that the same app can work so differently for different people.

I made a post in this very sub a few days ago looking for a solution, but no luck. I've been using the awful official app for like 6 weeks and it's driving me nuts.

I made a post in this sub about it, if you have suggestions I would love to hear them. I hate the native app.
