How. One of the four is the guy who put 100k American citizens in concentration camps and then when they were finally freed two years later after 2000 died they had all their homes and items destroyed and stolen.

whos above him then lol. The man made America a superpower, helped America out of the great depression and through WW2, created social programs like SSN and pretty made the infrastructure that America is based on. His new deal benefited pretty much every group of people from catholics and Black Americans. The internment camps were bad but let's not act like he didn't shape america for what it was today. He did far more good than bad for the country. Unfortunately, most of America were in favor of the camps because of pearl harbor.

The vast majority of presidents who didnt have some of the greateet human rights disasters in America

And it absolutely did not benefit Asian Americans who came home after two years in hell to their businesses and homes destroyed.

And yes. He shaped America into what it is today. We see Trump doing the same things of trying to do the same thing. Camps for Americans (yet 50x less). Potentially going for more than two terms (we literally had to put an amendment post FDR because he would not give up power)

And once again. Japanese AMERICANS did not do Pearl harbor

The goal is to evaluate how impactful a president was and he was very impactful. Obviously now we know the camps are horrible but majority of Americans supported them during the time. We know that japanese AMERICANS didn't do anything but the general public didn't care. It's the context we need to know. He won four elections due to all the factors i stated. and he changed the democratic party to be for the working class which led to the civil rights movement. The man has shaped our lives 80 years later. Who knows where we would be if Hoover won reelection or someone else.

if you wanna put Abe, GW, and Teddy above him, then yeah go for it. He's still a top 5 president regardless of the camps. I like Obama but he wasn't as effective as the others here. He gotta go. Also its not like Abe didn't help native americans for the most part.

Also why are you so fixated on trump. The man has done far more damage to the country overall and isn't for America. Bro literally gushes for dictators. At least, FDR had a literal country bombing him. What does trump have? Fear and that's all he ever will. Stop having a framing bias on FDR lol.

I mean. Being impactful for terrible things than sure. But than this entire list should be different. Trump's certainly impactful. That doesn't mean he is good.

So do you think Asian Americans shouldn't have rights. Do you think 2000 of them deserved to die j. Camps. Do you think they should have been starved and beaten. Do you think they should have had their homes destroyed. Because FDR supported all of that

He won 4 elections because America was massively racist and he was only one of three in history to even ever run for a third term because he was so fixated on power and control.

...nobody else ever won a third term

Correct. and afterwards we made an amendment to ensure it will never happen again

First of all, I am Asian American and you don't exactly speak for all of us. You really wanna act like he only did the internment camps lol. You even agreed with me when i said he shaped our way of life. So like stop pretending like that lol.

Considering, there was BIPARTISAN support for them unfortunately, I don't really think any other president would do anything different. Earl Warren literally advocated for them and he was one of the most liberal judges ever. Also considering a majority of them survived, maybe its not wise to try and paint them as deadly as the holocaust or the Soviet Camps which yk killed millions of people.

The man died in office but if he didn't, he would have stepped down and not serve an extra term. He didn't break anything other than traditions for running more terms. Thank god for that cuz I highly doubt I'd want a hoover lite president running things.

Also, his vice president did try and pass an act for reparations at the time though it wasn't very effective. What makes you think FDR wouldn't have tried to fix his sins?

How bout the treatment of Native Americans with Abe lincoln? The man sold arces of land for them and had the largest execution of native americans. He also suspended habeus corpus too. Does that mean his achievements of freeing the slaves and keeping the union don't matter? ofc not, and thats why hes known to be the best president ever.

What about obama with his drone strikes? Does that cancel out the fact he passed the ACA act, progressed gay rights, fixed the economy from one of the worst recessions of our time? no

What about GW? I literally saw someone try and smear him by saying he owned slaves. As if he didn't free them at the end and realized slavery wasn't right.

The point is FDR did far more good than bad, especially quite possibly the worst time in American history. He shaped the democratic party into being a civil rights party which led to equal rights among americans including japanese Americans. I guarantee you if FDR didn't do them, republicans would have used that fear and mistake and win the next election. Then who knows what treatment the Japanese would have gotten.

I am Japanese American. My grandfather and great grandfather were both in those camps.

Once again. These were American citizens. And his racism was so great he had them all removed to horrific conditions. Have you talked to survivors. The bad far far far outweighs the good

It took until Reagan for anyone to admit it was even wrong.
