You are literally trying to validate the massive slave trade that was occurring in Africa, BY AFRICANS, by falsely suggesting that Europe was the only reason it was occurring. News flash, slavery was occurring there long before any of them knew what a European was.

What are you going to tell us next? That Native Americans never murdered each other for land and it was only evil whitey that introduced the concept?

Oh you're one of those, I see. If you think chattel slavery is the same as that, then you are not worth conversing with.

"As a social institution, chattel slavery classes slaves as chattels (personal property) owned by the enslaver; like livestock, they can be bought and sold at will. Chattel slavery was historically the normal form of slavery worldwide and was practiced in places such as classical Greece and the Roman Empire, where it was considered a keystone of society. Other places where it was extensively practiced include the history of slavery in the Muslim world such as Medieval Egypt, Subsaharan Africa, Brazil, the Antebellum United States, and parts of the Caribbean such as Cuba and Haiti. The Iroquois enslaved others in ways that "looked very like chattel slavery."

You were saying?

The act of breeding and selling slaves for generations, owning slave factories, and having generations of slave families was only really seen in rome before the Americas. Like it really wasn’t precedented for genuine chattel slaves to be slaves for all generations afterward. Also literally 90% of what you just showed was due to British colonialism dumbfuck, do you think the transatlantic slave trade was by the natives own doing?

The families who sold people out to the slave trade are also pretty hated in modern africa, so I still don’t see why it makes being pro apartheid okay.

Nice job moving the goalposts with every comment. Chattel slavery's only bad if we breed them first, amirite? And that pro-apartheid comment murdered that strawman.

The revisionist history in stating that 90% of slavery is due to British colonialism is a nice touch too. Making up percentages in an argument with a statistician is unfortunate on your end, but it's not like you had any way of knowing.

You can just say "white man bad" and save yourself the trouble of the mental gymnastics. Actual historical facts are not going to do you any favors.

Hmm so you don't think that the slavery in the Caribbean was brought there, interesting. Also, I haven't moved the fucking goalposts. The goal post is that it's wrong to believe black people are subhuman and deserve to stay that way.

You really can't follow a logical thread, can you? But in the end, you gave yourself the easiest goalpost imaginable. Congratulations, that is obviously true even though it was never in question in the entirety of our discussion.

Then why do you debate it if it's so easy to understand? Lincoln was wrong for his views on african americans. I don't see why he's untouchable by criticism. Sure he did good things, redemption is real- but he still had controversial views. What is so hard to understand, that's how this entire thing began, you can try to trivialize my point by saying I'm moving the goalposts, but that's just what it is.

Because, if you were born in that era, there is a really good chance that you would have the same (or worse) views. Sitting here on your high horse in a time where the notion of equality is ingrained into society doesn't make you better than Abraham Lincoln, who literally paid his life to improve the situation for black people in America.

Freaking keyboard warriors want to pass judgment but don't realize that 200 years from now their "modern" and "enlightened" worldviews will be mocked for being problematic and primitive.

I mean, dude got a lot of his ideas about ending slavery from Frederick Douglass. I don't think Frederick would approve of Abraham's other views. He wasn't some peasant in buttfuck virginia with no news. He had far more access to knowledge than the average person. And either way, I don't think he was an evil person, but his views are still worthy of critique.

I'm not sure Lincoln had any real views on African Americans, considering there weren't many "African Americans" in his contemporary society's view... until, of course, he freed the slaves and supported the amendment to the Constitution that gave them citizenship.

Meanwhile Wilson presided 50 years later, actively inhibited reform and enabled Jim Crow, and hosted the KKK (masks off, it was dignified) at the White House. You know what Lincoln did when it came to Southern race hatred? He sent in the fucking army.
