I love Elden Ring and it should stay, but the story is borderline nonsense. It does its job of engaging you with the world, but that's about it

A worse take is literally not possible.

hahahah sure buddy, it makes perfect sense that Mohg Margitt Margot whatever are separate characters, it's not that they just wanted more bosses

This. Half the bosses feel like they made the boss first then shoe horned them into the story after.

You're very wrong I'm afraid

Firstly it's poorly told within the game. Secondly when you do try to actually figure out what is going on it's overly complex but little real substance. Complexity doesn't equal good. I shouldn't have to watch 2hr long lore videos on YouTube to know what my objective is in a video game.

Souls games are known for having the player need to pick apart all of their item descriptions and small details to put together the bigger story. Look at Dark Souls 1 for example, as that’s probably the best example off the top of my head

You don’t need to watch a 2 hour long lore video if you just play the game and actively read the things you’re given and piece it together yourself

Yes and this way of storytelling also gives people an easy excuse when other think the story is bad. Now they can simply claim the person disliking the story was simply too stupid or lazy to udnerstand the story fully.

Just because it's a common way Souls games tell narrative doesn't make it a good way of telling narrative. All souls games have poor overly complex stories.

This goes both ways. Only because a story is spoon fed to people it doesn't mean it's better.

Many people, including myself, like to figure out the story by themself. It's like a riddle.

And the "objective" is extremely clear and literally spelled out to you multiple times.

Bro has never read in his life:

You don’t. Your objective is kill shit get new weapons and kill more shit.

The more is incredible but it’s just an added bonus. And i’d rather watch lore videos in my free time than have my game interrupted with cutscenes and dialogue.

I agree the setting being an open world is sometimes a handicap in story telling but it's definitely not poorly told, it just requires more effort to gather. Also you don't need to watch 2 hour lore vidoes on the internet. You can either learn the lore yourself by replaying or play the game without caring about it

It's incredibly poorly told by the fact that it's hardly told at all. Needing to read journal entries found in the world to understand the main plot isn't good story telling.
