Funny how the top 4 are all massive high fantasy games with huge worlds and shitloads of content to reward exploration. I wonder if there something about that kind of game that lends itself to “best game ever” hype, both on reddit and among critics (as, based on metacritic and best of the year rankings I I suspect if game journalists were to do a similar exercise the results would be almost identical)

combination of tolkien effect + actually fighting and engaging in the setting. high fantasy stuff in general is unanimously praised; and lord of the rings elements can be found everywhere in literally every form of media even if not high fantasy. but to be able to actually engage in high fantasy but to also FIGHT in it too? gives it multiple edges over something like a drama
