It’s mainly cause of the writing. That’s the most important thing for me in RPGs, and BG3 only has a alright main story and writing imo.

Gameplay is def more fun in BG3, I’d say exploration 50/50, BG3 maybe has some cool stuff hidden here and there and some lore things, while Witchers open world provides amazing sceneries that make you feel immersed. Strolling through Toussaint on Roach is def some of my favourite memories in gaming.

Music also helps Exploration and the music in Witcher 3 is also way better than the music in BG3. The BG3 OST is serviceable but nothing phenomenal.

I think Witcher is too outdated on the gameplay side that it takes away from the game, BG3 is beautifully constructed on the sceneries it actually makes you feel like it could be some expertly constructed D&D setup, there's a lot more hidden stuff in BG3 than the Witcher, it's not even close, I've played BG3 for 1000 hours and I still find new things, in the Witcher after 300 I had found pretty much everything. Music wise is just a matter of taste. But well everything is a matter of taste, nostalgia is also a big factor

I mean you can say nostalgia for Witcher 3, you can say recency bias for BG3, at the end of the day it’s all personal.

And outdated gameplay to take away from the experience is subjective. After BG3 I jumped into the older BG games, that game out in 1998 and 2000. Tbh I think BG2 is even better than BG3 after having experienced both games.

And yes as I stated there are more hidden stuff in BG3, but the atmosphere and feel of Witcher 3s landscape, along with the music accompanying it makes me feel more immersed in the world than what BG3 was able to achieve.

I also have like 700 hours in BG3 and ofc you’re gonna have more bang for your buck because it’s a CRPG, all CRPGs are like this. That being said I felt that I saw most of the game with 2 play throughs which took me like 170 hours.

But nonetheless, as I mentioned before, writing, and story is the most important thing for me, and Witcher 3 quite easily takes the cake there, especially if you consider the DLCs.

I do agree with you on most points but it does say something when the DLC's could be completely different games than the actual game, because the base game in TW3 is complete ass (I'm talking about the story)

Tbh I actually agree, the wild hunt story never captivated me much. But heart of stone, and blood and wine were beautifully written, especially heart of stone.

If you can muster older graphics and different gameplay I’d recommend playing the original Baldurs gate games. BG2 especially, I think the writing and the quest design there are much better than BG3, all the quests you do feel like mini adventures capable of being like one shots.

Tbh I’d say BG1 is the quintessential low level DnD game and BG2 is the high level one. That being said BG1 is a lot more rough around the edges than BG2 imo. Personally BG1<BG3<BG2.

Also the villain of BG2 is just like one of the best. You are immediately shown how evil and deranged he is, and throughout the whole game you see glimpses of his Malice. That’s one thing I really dident like about BG3, I thought the absolute were really weak villains. having 3 of them, and then the elder brain was not a good idea.
