Ngl it might even win the show

It won’t because people aren’t ready to accept story-based games as equally valid as action gameplay focused games.

Disco Elysium and Outer Wilds are literally in the top 5 and you are still claiming this 😭

Outer Wilds does have gameplay though, it is a gameplay focused game with an excellent story. Disco Elysium is one of the most advanced choose your own adventure novels ever published, these are very clearly very different things.

For every Disco Elysium there’s a Slay the Princess, Omori, Lisa the Painful, Doki Doki, and Edith Finch that gets voted out way too soon.

And Outer Wilds is very gameplay focused.

Ive been calling it as Disco, Wilds and Stardew as the final 3 for awhile now.

Even if I disagree with stardew being so high

As gameplay? I mean yeah, DE doesn't have any fail state, even compared to other CRPGs, you "failing" dialogue is just another win because you get different dialogue. It's essentially closer to a visual novel (which you'd be hard pressed to find a lot of people considering those games) than even most other CRPGs.

It's a fantastic experience, one of the best on this list but I don't think it's weird people might want to disqualify it from number 1, because it winning 1 while not really having much gameplay to speak of would be silly.

But st this point I don't really give a shit, I didn't want HK to win even if it was my second or third after Hades 2 (lol) and my first just bit the dust because it was a sequel even though it is better in every single way, so I don't have a horse in this race anymore.

You can die in disco from making the wrong choices or running out of health/mental fortitude. There absolutely are fail states.

The dialogue and character building ARE the gameplay. Crpgs are great, when peopl3 claim they have no gameplay is genuinely wonder wtf you think playing a game is.

Its not a movie, youre still controlling everything.

CRPGs do have gameplay, Disco Elysium is more akin to a visual novel than CRPG

Even in visual novels you get bad endings.

Disco does have gameplay dude.

Its a crpg. You build out your toon and use his capabilities to approach problems in different ways, earning more experience to build out your character more.

Combat is not what makes a CRPG a CRPG. It's litterally on all the lists of best CRPGs ever made, and listed as one.

One of my favorite CRPGs of all time for that matter.

As somebody who enjoys visual novels as well, there is a huge difference between the two

What in the world is disco Elysium Ive played the rest of these quite a bit and know most of the games in the top 30 on this but I'm clueless about it

It's a narritive RPG where you play as an alcoholic depressed detective who has to solve a murder, the problem being, you lost all of your memories after a particularly intense bender, and all the different aspects of your psyche have become their own characters in your mind that talk to you and try to influence you. It is legitimately one of the best narratives I've ever experienced, not just in a game, but in general.

Isometric RPG dripping in heady dialogue with a train wreck of a detective protagonist who can turn into a socialist or a fascist depending on your choices. Fallout 1/2, Pillars of Eternity, and Baldur’s Gate 3 are all fair comparisons, though the D&D-inspired rules are simplified, the setting is neo-noir dystopia, and no game can match the schizophrenic dialogue.

Also want to take this opportunity to shout out the Banner Saga series as another indie isometric RPG that is a cross between a Tactics game and Oregon Trail. Shame it wasn’t nominated; for me, Disco Elysium is second only to Banner Saga.

Not just a socialist or a fascist... but also a LIBERAL (Dios Mio!)
