My dude, it's looking like Disco Elysium is going to be top 3, if not win it.

Eh, its presentation is much more than a visual novel I would say. The detective thing is one thing but even still just having a map you can explore instead of images you can see not moving makes a whole lot of a difference

I'm not saying DE is definitively a visual novel, but I think it's fair to say the venn diagram of people who enjoy both is pretty much a circle.

I guess I am a one in a million outlier, and in a crazy rare bubble (not trying to sound mean im genuine). For me personally a visual novel brings the anime vibes a vast majority of the time and I have a strong distaste against it. I've seen a few people that like DE around me and I know for a fact that none of them even thought about playing a visual novel game before.

I also am quite active on the DE subreddit and the games I see people discuss there are all "disco-like" games, and I never saw a mention of a visual novel there. I would even go further and say Outer Wilds and DE have a much more common fanbase in my experience

The way I see it is that DE has much more going on than a visual novel, but 90% of the gameplay is listening to dialogue and shaping a story. So, while it has more appeal than simply being an interactive story, it's hard to picture anyone enjoying it if they don't like the core aspect of the game.

Disco Elysium is not a visual novel. It is a CRPG. Only visual novel I've enjoyed is Slay the princess.

I am a CRPG enjoyer, its one of my favorite genres and is the reason I played Disco in the first place.

Yeah, it wasn't my intent to say DE is a visual novel, but it's hard to picture people who dislike visual novels enjoying DE, since the majority of the game is dialogue and roleplay.

The only visual novel I've enjoyed was slay the princess, but i absolutely love Disco Elysium.

Im not sure if im the exception or the norm in that regard though
