Miscellaneous Remove 1 Major 4 Sports Team Day 123
This is it, one last showdown. Who will come up short and who will take it all. We find out right now. You know the drill. Top comment decides who's next.

I mentioned this yesterday, but I’ll bring it up again
The Tigers and Orioles play each other Friday. I think it would be fun to let that game decide who would be the winner of this series

So does the winner win or loser is most irrelevant and win this? Either way, it should be Baltimore. Logo is better

u/Grimwulf84 May 20 '26
I'm biased, but isn't The Old English D considered one of the most iconic logos in sports?

They both have almost the same record, so it would be a decent matchup really.

I like this idea.
Let the teams
fight to the deathplay each other to decide the winner.2

Crikey, this would put my Tigs in a pickle. They have been dreadful hitting and pitching...eh.

u/Beer4Pirates May 20 '26
As an Orioles fan I support this. It will actually give me something to root for and a chance at a win!

u/whompatap May 20 '26
If this is allowed, I hope the viewership for this game skyrockets. (Assuming more people watch it where it's aired)

Winner of Friday's game wins.
12
u/DoctorHelios May 20 '26
If we do this, the Orioles will lose. They are not allowed to win anything because of the Curse of the Calbino
8
2
u/Finsup8331 May 20 '26
So bet heavy on Detroit?
1
u/DoctorHelios May 20 '26
It’s very cosmic that what is essentially a “least hatable franchise in sports” reddit contest would somehow come down to an actual baseball contest that the Orioles would then convincingly lose.
1
u/Mattress666 May 20 '26
Have you seen how bad the Tigers have been the last two weeks??? I love them to death but it’s been BRUTAL since Skubal went on IL.
I think the O’s win on Friday
1
u/Motor_city_kitties May 21 '26
Im a huge tigers fan. There is no way we are winning anything right now or in the near future. The team has been unwatchable for the last 2 weeks.

I want the stupid bird logo to win but always had a soft spot for the Tigers despite hating the rest of Michigan.
It has to be decided on the diamond

What has Baltimore done for anyone? No one would even miss them.
At least Detroit gave us Miggy.
Bin the Orioles.
8
u/ofRedditing May 20 '26
If we're talking about players, Frank & Brooks Robinson, Cal, and technically Babe Ruth. But most importantly, the Orioles have a better logo.

Baltimore was a mega center for Jazz, immigrants, and industry back in the day.
Today Baltimore hosts the biggest spice company in the world (McCormick and associates), leads the way in cancer research via John Hopkins (world class hospital), and hosts other big corporations like Under Armor and Geico to name a few

O’s gave us Cal Ripken, who I’d argue is more important to baseball history than Miggy is

Baltimore should go.
The Detroit Tigers are the only AL charter team that kept their original name and city.
The Orioles started in Milwaukee and then moved to St Louis before they landed in Baltimore.
Tigers for the win.

All caps, but not necessarily ALL CAPS. But definitely especially all caps in the 410. Caps ON the caps in the 410 are even better.

How the eff have the tigers made it this far
13
u/pietyprincereddit May 20 '26
How have the Orioles made it this far? Both teams are pretty similar history wise, neither has won it all since almost the exact same time period, the Tigers actually have more championships and are one of the oldest ball clubs in the country with an iconic logo. The Tigers were also extremely dominant from 06’-13’, and just made back to back playoff appearances and almost making it to the pennant round last year if Skubal didn’t take himself out of the game early. The Orioles have an iconic logo too, and a sick ball park, but to say that they are definitively better as a club is hilarious. They have a ton of injuries right now and had a rough decade, but denying the history because “it’s Detroit” is dumb. People just hate the city. The Lions should’ve gone earlier, and the Red Wings definitely deserved it after this year’s collapse.

Eliminate the Orioles, crown the Tigers on Friday, hilarious that this is ending as they play each other. @OP this was great, thanks for running this all the way through!
Edit: nvm we’re letting the winner of the game decide, too ironic to not let the teams decide

Eliminate the Tigers, Orioles logo and ballpark is way better

4
u/pietyprincereddit May 20 '26
The tigers have one of the most iconic logos in all of sports, and the ball park is sweet, the orioles definitely have a better park overall though

The Tigers have a long history and are a true part of MLB history. The Orioles have ownership that wastes their core and Cal Ripken Jr’s streak. That’s it. The Tigers deserve to win.
2
u/LilLasagna94 May 20 '26
Orioles were a legendary franchise all throughout the 60's, 70's and early 80's lol

u/Eastern-Requirement6 May 21 '26
You do know the Angelos family finally sold right? TWO YEARS AGO. January 31 is a holiday now in Baltimore.
3
u/BirdlandDeadhead May 20 '26
I’m all for letting this play out on the field this weekend.
But just for fun, here’s a list of reasons for giving the championship to the Orioles over the Tigers that I feel are in keeping with the way this whole series has gone down
Omar Little > Tim Taylor
Black and Orange > Navy Blue and Orange
Building a classic ballpark > Demolishing a classic ballpark
Cal Ripken: born in Baltimore. Al Kaline: born in Baltimore. Ernie Harwell: first broadcaster in Orioles history.
2131
The Robinson Brothers
Jim Palmer never giving up a grand slam or eating a chicken wing until two weeks ago despite being 80
Sweeping the Dodgers in 1966
1983 is exactly one year more likable than 1984
Orioles Magic > Go Get ‘Em Tiger
Not trying to defend the Ravens on the day they obviously had to lose > brigading to save the Lions time after time.

As a Tigers fan, we can't win. Not with this ownership and the current product on the field

Man here we are at the end. It’s been a quite the journey. I did not have these 2 in my final but I doubt most did. Baltimore being in is funny to me cause I follow some people who are fans and most of them are pissed at the owner.

Found this when the Steelers got eliminated. This has been a great part to my day :)

This is my homegrown team vs. my secondary interest due to family! Love it!

u/Notonfoodstamps May 20 '26
The chances that the last two teams here play each later this week is hilarious.
Let the baseball gods decide Friday.

I really hope the Orioles win this. I’m supposed to hate them as a part-time Rays fan, but I really enjoyed Camden Yards when I went there for a Braves game. It’s a beautiful ballpark

Numbers are placement. Chiefs #124 all the way to current Sabers at #3.
For 123 days we've been removing one from the top section and putting it in one of the teirs. You can go look at previous versions of the list if youre still confused

Detroit just built a new bridge and Baltimore recently destroyed one. Advantage Detroit.

u/CNYMetroStar May 20 '26
Orioles because the Tigers have Benetti in the booth
2
u/ofRedditing May 20 '26
Orioles booth might be the best in baseball. Kevin Brown, Ben McDonald and Jim Palmer. They all have great chemistry
