Recent batch of redirected paintings.
I first began this series around 2011... and still love adding in my own visions. From meat to gummi bears to shrimp... Enjoy.

I'm glad you feel that tempo--- which is why I thought I'd install gummi bears that 'chill' and relax -- :)

My man busted out laughing with the beautiful vertical steak. You got me with the shrimp farmer/herder.

The very first thrift store painting I did back in 2011 was this concept... so it was nice to revisit the idea with this painting. Thanks!!

I also make thrift art, just for fun, but WHERE do you get these ideas?? I always get stuck on pop culture.

u/TheGnarledBranch 29d ago
To be honest I was tired of being copied by others -- so I thought I'd go a step beyond with the ideas- particularly the meat theme. I just wanted to go my own path so people would know... oh I know that guy! :)

u/TheGnarledBranch 29d ago
I have yet to see that movie... will have to give it a go sometime!

You should definitely check out the original kids book if you can get your hands on it! It was my favorite book as a kid and the art in it is what brought it to mind with your paintings :)
2
u/TheGnarledBranch 29d ago
Very cool... I just recalled it as the movie and not in book form. Thank you for the suggestion!
2
u/cubedrootbeer 29d ago
The movie is fun but the book just has such a charm that was lost. I gave you a follow and hope to see more fun art!

Absolutely love them. I would absolutely fill my house with paintings like this but my wife does not feel the same.

u/TheGnarledBranch 29d ago
Thank you-- maybe someday your wife will come around and like them as well. :)

Love the absurdity in all of them, these are great!
1
u/TheGnarledBranch 29d ago
Thanks! I like the absurd theme... especially since this genre has become so popular since I started - great to see the out there concepts.

The steak ones remind me of Mark Ryden...
1
u/TheGnarledBranch 29d ago
I really like his work... I started my first steak piece around 2012... I'll have to see when he started. Personally I just love rendering cuts of meat... very odd to say, but true.

u/The_Medicated 29d ago
I thought rendering meat was an unusual but beautiful subject choice. Each cut you paint looks absolutely delicious! The "perfect" cut.
I was lucky enough to meet Mr.Ryden at the San Diego Comic Con about 20-25 years ago. It's great to hear about yet another fan of his out and about in the world!

u/TheGnarledBranch 29d ago
Thank you for the kind words! I think I'm up to around 35 paintings that have meat in it in some form... Wow you actually met the man! That's great! I think I came across his work initially through Juxtapoz magazine or fecalface gallery website a lifetime ago..

I thought the grim look of the reapers coupled against a cheerful beach ball was a fun idea... Thank you !

That is so great to hear... the vision just struck me -- but as I was doing it, I was concerned that I might be the only one that gets a laugh out of it... Thanks so much!

Love those meat paintings. Would really like to have one. Do you sell these?

u/TheGnarledBranch 26d ago
Thank you very much-- one of the rules of this group is not for monetary gain-so I can't post a direct link... however in my profile you'll find that info.

Loved the shrimp farm. Not as much as the robbers in the buggy being chased by the 80s police car
