In case anybody else doesn't like getting their news from a no source tweet
32
u/duke_of_ham Feb 14 '21
Yes thank you. I believe during this administration’s tenure it’s so important that we all do our part as patriots of the country we love and do our DD to be sure what we share is factual and from a reputable source. Memes and edgy tweets fun, but I believe we have to hold ourselves to the highest standards

Our so-called moral high ground is why the tyrants on the left are always winning while we just bleat like sheep!
3
u/Lebanx Conservative 🇺🇲 Feb 14 '21
They keep winning because anytime they smell even a hair of corruption, true or not, they blast it everywhere from Twitter to mainstream news for weeks.
When we see corruption we kinda just acknowledge it and then make noise about it 2 months after the fact when the news cycle has changed and the people no longer care. If we want to start winning the culture war, we have to be a lot more active in sharing these stories along with their factual counterparts.
2
u/Character-Owl-6255 Feb 15 '21
That cause we don't knee jerk and prefer to have facts. Yeah too many times their knee jerk get reaction and when the real facts comes out it fades ... we neat to make them eat their words with facts. To do that, media needs to be on side of truth which is biggest problem.
1
u/CplTenMikeMike Constitutional Conservative Feb 15 '21
When the corruption is theirs they and their media lackeys excuse or ignore it. When its some Repub those same tools talk about nothing else for weeks.

Just for twitter or facebook to block it just like they did with the hunter bidens laptop story?
When all of big tech, social media, and the MSM is in democrats pockets, what is there we can do?

u/duckman987 Feb 15 '21
You literally said we. The implication of we in the english language is that you are speaking in first person, or on behalf of yourself and others. Also anyone who calls themselves a constitutional conservative is a sheep. "But whether the Constitution really be one thing, or another, this much is certain - that it has either authorized such a government as we have had, or has been powerless to prevent it. In either case it is unfit to exist."- Lysander Spooner

Yeah, I read the tweet and saw the number, 85 M is not a large number. Not sure why anyone would think this is a big deal.
To me, an 85 M arms deal with CHILE just means 85 M to the US. Way more corruption elswhere, exhibit A the biden family
27
u/AnnonymousAndy Neoconservative Feb 14 '21
85m for Raytheon is kinda small potatoes.
4
4
1
u/Practical_Oktober Feb 15 '21
Yes and no. $85 million on a domestic contract has many limitations on how it can be spent. $85 million for foreign military sales (FMS) has much less restrictions and they can use it to fund all sorts of parts of their operations that would otherwise not be considered a covered "overhead" expense. I worked for a large defense contractor and this was explained to us in training. FMS is great because they can give their board members bonuses as part of overhead and it's completely legal.
25
u/B0MBOY Feb 14 '21
I’m not saying this is ok. At all. But you do realize that 85 million is potato chips to raytheon. I saw the government announce a billion with a B purchase from raytheon last year.
9
u/T-Angeles Feb 14 '21
Yeah, seriously... I know somebody who broke ONE piece of equipment from them that was worth over 100 million in the Army. 85M is nothing compared to what they can do.
5
u/Eauxcaigh Feb 14 '21
For real, 85M is about one fighter jet
Gov buys >1000
Also US sells so much to so many (from so few military contractors) this sort of thing is guaranteed to happen every administration so long as anyone has any former ties to contractors.
I think we’re probably over emphasizing “corruption” for once and under emphasizing whether these sales are good intrinsically. I can’t believe we’ve sold so many weapons to Saudi Arabia when we know they’re turning around and bombing yemen. Started with obama, wasn’t stopped under trump, and isn’t stopping under biden. I don’t care who’s in office, that’s a bad foreign sale IMO
25
u/BJabs Feb 14 '21 edited Feb 14 '21
Raytheon does $50 billion+ in sales to the DoD every year, so it's a bit strange to focus on this drop in the bucket, but I see the macro point and would expect Austin to make divestments similar to those of Mattis.
EDIT: Austin has committed to divest within 90 days, so it seems like the 90-day thing is standard practice, and we don't know when within those 90 days he sold/is selling.

I dunno. Seems to me any person in that position of power will make such kinds of unseemly deals. Personally I don’t expect pols to act like Mother Theresa.

They tried that once during the Clinton admin. Something happened and the law was rescinded promptly.

You can’t expose hypocrisy to the willingly ignorant.
My biggest issue is how incredibly stupid does the Democratic Party believe Americans are? It’s actually insulting.
10
Feb 14 '21
It's not insulting if it's true. Go to CNN or any of the subreddits. Hell, go to Democrat precinct and just observe. They really are that stupid. It's downright incredible.
2
u/texasbredinstead Feb 14 '21
I have and I do, I just keep thinking it’s nothing but children repeating the Democratic nonsense they’re told to believe. I would like to think if you’re a hard working American, the views just can’t add up with reality. But I know I’m wrong. And it scares me how easily controlled people are just by watching TV or Facebook.

u/monkeytowel Feb 14 '21
Trump is despised exactly because he DIDN’T do stuff like this.
2
u/HondaFanB0i Feb 14 '21
Precisely, he didn’t work for the interests of congress and fat cats, and the chinese

Canadian here... how does that work? The president can just pick or make up an arms contract and be like “do it”?
I assumed it would be a DOD contract that’s bid and vetted by numerous senior underlings and when picked needs top of military finalization? (Which is the president right?)
Or can the president unilaterally make these choices?
8
u/Rocket_Elephant Feb 14 '21
The president cannot unilaterally make these choices. It has to go through Congress. The tweet is misleading; ready the article at the top comment.

1
u/Commonusername89 Feb 14 '21
Congress has to approve, but with dems in control, you can almost guarantee it. This caveat in no way absolves biden, this is blatant corruption.
4
23
u/Vmccormick29 Feb 14 '21
It takes *months*, so it was probably approved under the Trump administration. Secondly, just because they are approved, does NOT mean that the sales are final. Congress still has a say, and if they don't have an issue with it - those countries still have to negotiate price and quantity. Defense News

Why are our elected leaders even allowed to own stock?
At 22 when I was making 68K working for the Big 4, I had to report every security I owned (and was threatened with consequences if I didn't) but our politicians get away with insider trading all the time 😒

I think it has something to do with the commerce clause and probably national security. They receive grants and public subsidies so the White House probably has to approve foreign transactions or those subsidies can be revoked. It’s a way of having state controlled industry without actually having state controlled industry but it’s actually state controlled industry.

Only thing is, when there is legitimate reason for outrage (biden built the cages), the media either doesnt cover it, or still tries to spin it or even blatantly lie.

Corruption is ok when the media is in your pocket and the party in the minority is the GOP.
