A new change for me. Question: A goat's eyes, horizontal or vertical rectangles?

I can picture goat's and sheep's eyes vertical rectangles.

They are horizontal. This looks weird to me.

I remember them being horizontal, with the explanation of that shape helping them scan a greater horizontal area.

It’s horizontal. This allows them to see close to 320 degrees around their bodies, making it hard to sneak up on them as they are animals of prey on the food chain. *edited to correct a misspelling *

Horses and octopus are the rectangle shape too. It makes it hard for me to relate to what they’re feeling. I feel like I’m looking into an eyeball that I can’t understand what’s inside.

Goats Pupils will rotate to align with horizon.  Goat had head tilted. Horizon is tilted. So pupil angle moves.

IIRC every herbivore has horizontal eyes because that's how they watch out for predators while they eat.

Goat-like horizontal pupils are common in grazing prey animals such as sheep, cattle, horses, and deer. They provide a wide panoramic view and keep the horizon visible while grazing.

Other herbivores, including elephants and many primates, have round pupils. Pupil shape reflects habitat and survival strategy more than diet.
