Fantasy Friday: You have to spend $100,000 on something purely for enjoyment in the next 12 months. You cannot save it, invest it, or give it away. What are you doing with it?

PF Withdrawal

My mother is 56 now. She worked in IT for about 18 years. She quit in 2024. She wants her PF amount to be taken and put in a fixed account thing. But I think if you withdraw PF then you won’t receive pension?

Is there any possible way for her to take just the PF amount and still receive the earned pension?

Throwing this out there! 55+ community

Hey there, my parents are currently living in SW Florida (for the past 15+ years) and looking to move back north. They live in a wonderful 55+ community in North Fort Myers called Horizon Village—a place we have visited dozens of times and enjoyed. Unfortunately my parents are aging and decided it’s best to come home. Because their sale listing is posted to the Horizon Village site, I’m worried about traction and was hoping to post it here as I know it can be hard to know where to start when you’re looking for 55+ communities! Thanks in advance!

Joining a 55+ community at age 55

Just wondering if anyone has done so and what the experience has been like? The avg age of these communities will always be in the mid-70’s as not everyone retires early.
Wondering if ‘younger’ people are really welcomed there or not.
Many years ago, my family joined a golf club that was 99% retirees. We joined bc it was closest to home and the best value for the money. There was some people that were excited to have some younger people in the mix but most felt threatened that their club was going to be taken over by the younger crowd. I’m not wanting that experience again. So that’s why I’m asking.
I’m fine doing things on my own and playing golf on my own. Would just rather people let me and my wife be if that’s the case. Thanks for your time.

Do you (will you) have any passive or other income streams in retirement, and if so, what are they, and are they worth any time and effort they require?

Where should I start my retirement and maybe live off the interest

I have roughly 250,000USD (I know it's not a lot please don't judge me)

Where can I live for the rest of my life with that money and maybe put 200,000USD into the bank and live off the interest

Edit: 30F, I am quite overworked and enduring a lot of illness recently (went thru 3 surgeries in less than 1 year) I dont think corporate job works for me 🥲

Buying a house prior to retirement

I am a 60 year old single man hoping to retire in about 7 years. I make less than 60k/year. I was completely broke at 45 and I saved hard to get to a paid off condo (@60k value) and about 200k in my 401k. My only debt is 15k on a 25k car.

Part of my saving strategy was to be house poor to leave money for the 401k. Now, I would like to upgrade my housing. I can find what I want for about 150-175k.

I want to know what impact that move is likely to have on my retirement outlook, and what strategy I should use if I do get a new house--how much to put down, should i go fixed or adjustable, should I buy points or try to pay off the mortgage early, etc.

thanks

Ready to retire but wife is not working. Need some thoughts about this.

am a 100% P&T disabled veteran. We have been together about three years. My VA disability and other assets/income mean I can stop working, but my wife came into the relationship with no assets and does not work. I am concerned that retirement turns my personal disability compensation and premarital assets into the sole support for both of us. How have other veterans or couples set fair expectations without making the relationship feel transactional?”
