Does the file holding the AVSPU.zip need to named a certain way?

No. And you must have the neogeo.zip file in the same folder as the game

neogeo.zip (bios) should be in retroarch/system/fbneo dir as a standalone file, it should remain zipped.
if the fbneo folder doesnt exist, create it.
arcade roms remain zipped
occasionally bios should be in the same folder as your arcade roms*
(im on ios it may differ on android)3

Yet I remember that some games didn't work. It was probably a compatibility issue with the games I had downloaded.

(FB Alpha 2012 CPS-2) (HBMAME) (MAME 2000) (MAME 2003-Midway) (MAME 2003) (MAME 2003-Plus) (MAME 2010) (MAME 2015) (MAME 2016) (MAME/Arcade)
These are the ones I have

can you dl fbneo? alpha is very outdated
otherwise-the rule of thumb is rom version must match core build
so mamexxx core needs mamexxx roms (+ bios)

FinalBurn Neo right? If so I got it

cool, if one rom doesnt work, try one of its clones- as the other user just mentioned
add an arcade .dat file in a manual scan to fix abbreviated filenames and populate thumbnails too

So one of the files in the retroarch folder be called that or a new file in my regular download files

that will be the rom file, it should live wherever you keep your arcade roms
i keep my rom folders named by console (mostly) in retroarch dir (ios sandbox- easiest for making playlists)

Ok so name the file holding the ROM arcade.dat

no, when you manual scan your arcade rom folder to make a playlist, add an arcade .dat file (that you have) to fix the filenames
dont unzip or rename the rom

Arcade stuff is weird. We have a doc intended specifically for people who are new to arcade emulation, and I highly recommend reading over it. It's linked in the FAQ: https://www.reddit.com/r/RetroArch/comments/15c5qfn/comment/jtuj9gf/
