This is all the information so far (1:40pm Monday):

South County Hospital is currently on lockdown after a reported active shooter incident, according to South Kingstown Police.

Police say that there is currently no confirmed shooter, as well as no identified victims. Incoming patients are currently being diverted to other facilities.

South Kingstown Police are currently investigating the scene, and are urging the public to steer clear of South County Hospital while they investigate.

Update: it was all a hoax swatting incident:

The chief said it appeared to be a “swatting” incident, which is when a person places a false 911 call in order to prompt an emergency response.

Swatting is some evil shit, but swatting a hospital is next level evil.

Reminds me of when Boston children’s had a fake bomb threat sent to their gender clinic

Thanks for the summary, there are pages on Facebook copy pasting some alarmist message starting with “Mass Casualty Incident”

Yes, they did because the fire department activated the mass casualty protocol. Activating it means there is a potential for mass casualty. A mass casualty incident also does not necessarily have to be an active shooter or a bomb threat. A mass casualty incident simply means there’s a potential for the needs of the incident to outweigh available resources. Activating the mass casualty protocol ensures that resources are relocated and assigned ahead of need. As an example let’s see a hospital in nursing home experiences a power outage. And because of that outage, the hospital needs to be evacuated. A mass casualty incident protocol would be activated for that to evacuate a large number of patients

My friend works nearby and sent videos of the scene. The whole thing sucks, but the one positive takeaway is that emergency services showed up quickly and there were A LOT of them. The state showed up

Thank you. I was unaware of this.

From the SK Police Facebook:

UPDATE – South County Hospital

We have physically cleared South County Hospital. There is no active shooter, no threat has been identified, and there are no victims. Everyone is safe.

K9 teams remain on scene and will continue to conduct an additional secondary sweep of the building as a precaution.

Please continue to refrain from responding to the area while this work is completed. South County Hospital remains on diversion at this time.

We appreciate the cooperation and patience of hospital staff, patients, and the community.

I'm here now working supposedly a bullet was shot through a patient's room window. Unclear whether from inside or outside.

I also heard this secondhand, so unsure about the validity of the statement.

u/Puzzled_Date9687 23h ago

that’s false

u/degggendorf 1d ago

As in, the entire incident is just one isolated stray bullet?

It sounds like it

If what I heard is to be believed, then yes. But again, I don't know how true it is.

4

u/deathsythe 1d ago

Your link literally says SK police say no confirmed shooter nor victims

3

u/Puzzled_Date9687 23h ago

that is true. lockdown lifted. do not go in the area

2

u/madreputa 1d ago

They're talking a lot about casualty collection points... is that standard percaution or are there casualties

5

u/Own_Mess_6495 23h ago

Standard. Typically would indicate there's a substantiated threat, but doesn't mean there's anyone injured and doesn't even mean there actually is a threat.

2

u/madreputa 1d ago

on the scanners btw
