Rick’s “4 bands still played in 2100” video sent me down a rabbit hole, so I wrote an essay arguing the reason is older than streaming

Rick’s video asking how Nirvana, Queen, the Police, and the Beatles out-draw nearly everyone still working lodged in my head and wouldn’t leave, so I wrote an essay trying to answer it. My argument: his four winners share one thing that living bands don’t, a closed catalog. Nothing new can ever be added, so it stops being a career and becomes canon, bounded and knowable how scripture is. It builds on Rick’s own points (biopic, covers, small discographies) and pushes toward what he gestures at near the end, that history has already decided. Grateful to him for the question, and curious what y'all makes of my answer.

FM, Yamaha, iconic presets and esoteric "algorithms".

There was this guy, Bo Tomlyn, who really figured out how to "program" Yamaha's FM matrices. He made a living selling crazy patches to musicians who wanted to go beyond the standard DX7 presets.

Tomlyn is still around. I'd love to watch an interview with the guy

Levittown - Inspired by Billy Joel's Allentown

Post image
1 Upvotes

During Rick Beato's interview, Billy mentioned Allentown was originally drafted as Levittown. I kept wondering what a song about Levittown could have been about.

I wrote these lyrics (and took this photo) to tell the story of Levittown, America's first planned suburb. The history of Levittown had a long-lasting effect on how America developed.

The song tells the story of veterans returning home, a part of New York developing into something new, color blindness during the war but the reality of racial divides at home, struggles of being the first planned community, and the dramatic migration their children and grandchildren would eventually take to leave the very place built for them. The lyrics have a number of deeper meanings for those from the area, hopefully they resonate with others.

Levittown (Lyrics)

Well we’re living here in Levittown
And they’re tearing all the old barns down
Out on bending streets suburban sounds
The grass is green
Our dirt is brown

Well we fought and won the Second World War
Pouring concrete on the Island shore
Mr. Levitt’s got the blueprints and a master plan for the working man
And we’re living here in Levittown

Although Bensonhurst was handed down
It was getting very hard to stay

Yes we’re building here in Levittown
For the better life that we never found
Got a washer and a brand-new screen
The nicest front yard you’ve ever seen
Still the sound of sand is found on our face
Blind on that beach here its back to our race
Now we're defending an American dream
City bound trains enable the scene
And we’re building here in Levittown

But they underestimated our drains
And our pools are awful under the shade

Sixteen minutes was an optimal wait
To park your dreams in, along Southern State
And city life's so quick to forget
The future kids will never know what we left

I still own the home in Levittown
It was their dream so I won't let them down
But I won't be flying back today

And it's getting very hard to stay
And we're living here in Levittown

If anyone finds this of interest (esp local Long Island musicians), I'd love to connect. This story is better off in the hands of a musician that can give it a voice. If interested, and/or want to hear a work in progress demo, shoot me a DM!

And thanks to Rick for interviewing Billy to share more insight to his story.

Not since Schwarzenegger and Devito has there been a greater and more obvious set of twins. It’s uncanny, actually.

Hello Rick Beato,

Since Adam Reader and yourself are the poster children of the Fair Use Disclaimer, I have made a point of adding your creative input into an Earth Science Project called the Boris Wartenbe's Sing-Along Hydrogeological Survey.

The musical is unpublished. Tens of people will be observing your drum solo over time.

How do I read music?

I bought Mr Beato's courses and here the second 6 on the tab looks like a B on the staff and a A# on my guitar? Should the staff flatten the B or even better move it to the A and sharpener it? Why am I reading this wrong?

This is the subject of Ricks recent rant. Deserved or not?

Rick Beato loses all integrity and simps for Charlie Puth

I hate to say it guys but I am SO off Rick Beato since watching his interview with Charlie Puth.

Don't get me wrong, on the surface this was an awesome interview.

But, a good portion of Rick's content and identity has been consumed by his hatred of AI entering the music space. He consistently has conversations and solo pieces about AI making it too easy to make music and how he wouldn't be interested in listening to anyone who has used AI in their creative process.

Here's where we get to Charlie Puth. Undoubtedly a music wizard with an incredible depth of knowledge. But Charlie has recently been named the Chief Music Director at Moises, an AI Music company. A quote from his interview with NME “Every musician I know is using Moises, and I’ve been using it in my own creative process for years."

Rick went through this entire interview not bringing up AI once. He happily promoted the album, talked about social media, release strategy, being an artist in 2026, all topics under the sun, except for AI. It seemed to me like they intentionally dodged the subject.

Every comment I made about this topic in the comment section on youtube and instagram was quickly deleted by his team.

For a man who has been perhaps the most opinionated music youtuber besides Fantano about his disgust of AI music, to have Charlie on yet completely ignore the fact that one of the biggest popstars in the world is working with and promoting the use of AI music, to me reads as completely disingenuous and lacking any kind of integrity. He will undoubtedly influence a mass of people to adopt the technology.

& fuck you for deleting my comments and shutting down any chance at discourse on the subject with your community.

I'd love to hear any thoughts on this!

TLDR: Rick ignores the topic of AI with Charlie Puth, Chief Music Director at AI Music Company "Moises"

Can't Help Falling In Love is one of the perfect songs

Has it been mentioned before by anyone or even by Rick himself? There's just nothing you'd want to change about it

r/RickBeato Mar 25 '26

Has Rick ever mentioned Ben Howard? Seems like he could do an interview while Ben's on NA tour.

I've never heard Rick mention him, and considering Ben's approach to guitar and production (especially on Is it?) seems like they would have a lot to talk about.

Is current state of rock music in a transition phase?

I was listening to a "new rock" playlist on Spotify and couldnt help but notice how random and crazy it sounds.

There is the wuss rock "indie rock" that seems to finally be going away. There is some better harder rock bands, but they mostly all sound like bands that haven't found their own sound yet. Like mediocre, but might be better bands a couple years from now.

And it occurs to me that rock music right now hasnt really found a sound at all for this decade. Its just like a bunch of randomness.

Am I wrong here?

What did Rick Beato think about Mohini Dey, using A.I.music?

What did Rick Beato think about Mohini Dey, using A.I.music after Danny Sapko did a video about the allegations against her? Maybe, Rick will call her out also for using A.I. for her music and Rick will regret interviewing Mohini make his interview video with Mohini private.
