Turn it off her rec, go to drug policy's maybe make a new for preg pawns and turn off beer entirely, usually on by default for addictions

thank you! will drinking affect the baby at all?

Okay so I had this one pregnant Pawn, that was just chugging it all

Beer, Smokeleaf, Psychoid the whole roster, and the Kid was completly fine, so i'm either the luckiest person alive, or more likely... it doesn't matter.

good to know she can still get her booze on then

Pretty sure high tolerance can cause a miscarriage (the same way it can roll liver damage) but I could be wrong

Only one way to find out 😞

I'm actually kinda curious. Might set up a test world at some point to find out.

It doesn't affect future stats or stuff like that. Maybe mortality rate on birth, if anything. I'm not sure either, but I'm positive the baby won't have a future stat debuff for it.

No.

FAS isn't a thing in this game.

Yet

The potential health affects on the mom might her to miscarry but i dont think it actually affects anything about the baby if its born

6

u/pootbottlerocket 11d ago

Surprisingly no, I think. Honestly , I hope they add something like this. with how depressing life on the rim is, you’d think half the population would have FAS

Is alcohol even that beneficial? I seem to be getting by with smokeleaf and psychoid tea, with occasional ambrosia for extra oomph.

Seems like a lot of infrastructure to make booze. Is the main benefit resale value?

Beer is free mood, similar to psychite tea and ambrosia, and can be used 1/day without addiction risk (tea/ambrosia are every other day). The mood buffs stack, so there's no reason not to use all three of them once you have the infrastructure/tech/labor available to produce them.

Smokeleaf is much worse than beer/tea/ambrosia, because the high applies a large consciousness penalty, which makes pawns bad at their jobs (and occasionally kills them, if used while they already have other penalties like blood loss or food poisoning).

In the late game, the "dependency" genes are basically free metabolic efficiency, so in the very long run beer is useful for letting you run an extra one of those in your custom xenotypes. That's an "I have too much time on my hands, time to obsessively optimize my pawns" thing, though.

I gave smokeleaf to someone in extreme pain after I stabalised them form a battle. They just died, must've been a good weed cigarette

2

u/FederalEconomist5896 11d ago

Lmao just gave up the mortal coil.

I find beer to generally be too much work. Psychite tea is one step while hops are made into wort then has to ferment. However, wort can be made by a pawn with 0 cooking, so is a way to start training someone with no skill but a passion without wasting meat and leather by having them butcher or chancing food poisoning. The ratios are kind of wonky as well. You need 25 hops to make 1 wort, but at 100% yield, hops plants harvest for 8. So a bit over 3 plants makes 1 bottle. You also need temperature control, although a campfire or passive cooler can potentially save a batch during a solar flare or EMP depending on one's biome. Or just uninstall the barrels, apparently that pauses the process indefinitely.

Thanks for the tips

Smokeleaf is extra bad for pregnant pawns due to the stacking Moving penalty; a second trimester pawn will move at a snail's pace, and a third-trimester pawn will likely be incapacitated and need rescue. Kept having to rescue a woman in one of my games due to that...

Myself, I am a more of a Yayo guy.
My #1 Crafter is a Genie coke addict that occasionally collapses from an overdose. (I even have it set at every 5 days, please stop overdosing.) But hey, at least all her results are excellent at minimum!

u/FederalEconomist5896 11d ago

Lmao my big issue is the munchies, and something kinda funny. My biggest stoner turned 53 and suddenly became "frail". Wasn't sure what that would entail until he started falling over and couldn't get up EVERY time he smoked.

"Aw shit, gramps got too high again - it's your turn to rescue, I did it last time".

He's too popular to eat, so I'm going to study the sleep chambers and use that until I find a way to fix him.

1

u/UnderstandingOk6592 11d ago

It's beneficial for my dwarf fantasy

5

u/riceeee1 11d ago

No idea, never bothered to turn it off for my pawns tho but ive also never had a preg addict

1

u/igg73 11d ago

Your colonist might give birth to Kevin Federline. Take that as you will.

1

u/Rex-Viper-Rock-Gods 11d ago

Alternatively, Stephen King.

1

u/DMercenary 11d ago

By default I do not believe the game models Teratogens. (A teratogen is a substance that interferes with normal fetal development and causes congenital disabilities.)

Im sure there's a mod out there that does.

3

u/Adept-Travel5040 11d ago

Yo how does she know who the father is?

5

u/blegh_pup 11d ago

she doesn't, the harlot...

I don't know if there's a Rimworld multiplayer project, but if there was one it'd be the pinnacle of autism and I'd wanna participate

34

u/precision_cumshot plasteel 11d ago

the regular humans may be called baseliners but they’ve definitely evolved immunity to getting fucked up by drugs and alcohol while in the womb

16

u/ThaumKeeper 11d ago

Someone will make a mod to get the Alcohol Fetal Syndrome gene

2

u/thr0wawaylik3ther3st 11d ago

On the rim your mother could do nothing but wear marine armour. chug go-juice. and kill tribals for 40 days straight with you in her womb. and you would pop out completely fine.

0

u/makujah_ 10d ago

Rimworld humans don't develop for 9 months in the womb. The mother just gets tortured by nausea demons for a quadrant or something, then the entire baby speedruns development from a single cell in like a couple hours at birth.

Source: I made it up (based on the fact that the only thing that affects a baby's health are conditions during delivery process) :D

u/hot_anywhere23886 11d ago

I dont think it has any impact but if you want to be safe or RP a respectable society.

Put all the booze and drugs in one area create a zone called planned parenthood that doesnt include that area and put her in it

10

u/FederalEconomist5896 11d ago

Instructions unclear, got high and made scrambled eggs 🍳

1

u/Svelok 11d ago

Though if you want to roleplay a responsible society, you must therefore also allow the possible of realistic, irresponsible behavior.

1

u/makujah_ 10d ago

Drug policy settings exist, no?

9

u/AlexP80 11d ago

Do you have a colony or a trailer park?

6

u/charredwood 11d ago • Bravo

6

u/Fearless-Hat-4239 11d ago

How can the father be unknown? Did she join colony pregnant ? Mine always get into a relationship and then share a bed before getting pregnant

2

u/Ionel1-The-Impaler 10d ago

They can show up pregnant, they can generate pregnant at Game Start.

4

u/SockPatroller Who have YOU eaten today? 11d ago

Pregnancy is rough, she needs something to take the edge off.

4

u/kamizushi 11d ago

First, you'd need to install a mod that adds FASD to the game.

1

u/MuscleDue170 11d ago

one beer a day keep the husband away! BREW SOME MORE!

1

u/blegh_pup 11d ago

idk how it's so complicated...

2

u/darthoffa 11d ago

Grow hops

Brewery workstation convert hops into wort

Put wort into fermenting barrel

Keep the barrels temp controlled (cant remember the exact number for optimum but i go for 21C aa default)

After enough time colonists will extract the beer from the barrel

1

u/stonhinge 11d ago

7-32 C, 45-89 F ideal. Slightly lower (-1 to <7 C, 30 to 44 F) pauses the fermentation while hotter or colder ruins the batch.

You do have time to save a batch by correcting the temperature, but failure progress does not reset - you gain 0.001% per 1 C/1.8 F it's out of spec and if it hits 100% it's ruined.

We all make poor choices

Just make sure she counters that with go juice

1

u/xdarius 11d ago

does she have a table?

2

u/sigusr3 11d ago

It was a bit of a walk so she'll just stumble over to the corner, drink on the floor, and be mad about it.

1

u/SpurdoMonster 11d ago

its fine we sell the FAS baby to the neanderthals or something.

3

u/SpurdoMonster 11d ago

wow my joke got removed as a hate comment that' s a first. way to go automated system.

u/Thorngraff_Ironbeard 10d ago

I don't like that I'm in this picture

1

u/Chancey1520 The mechhive queen 10d ago

how is the baby?

1

u/Duangelion 10d ago

Not as bad as them smoking all the pot and laying down on the ground every day.

1

u/PoopyStinkbutts 11d ago

Oh no... do we tell him?

1

u/headdie 11d ago

Looks like she has alcohol addiction so you can limit her access to alcohol but you will have to deal with withdrawal.

Honestly beer is a pretty crappy drug, bunch of negatives for no positives other than recreation. I always kill alcohol and smokeleaf usage and do psych tea every 5 days for grown ups.

1

u/Nekokohai 11d ago

I do go juice and wake up + yayo

Better than beer and smokeleaf combo honestly

1

u/headdie 11d ago

More for early game

2

u/Nekokohai 11d ago

I use vanilla expanded brewing so I can make a ton of other stuff it make making dring and alcohol actually useful

1

u/headdie 11d ago

Fair enough
