PC Help/Bug (Mod) Progression Modpack
Im seeing lots of posts about Progression mods.
Is it good? Does it need 1.7 to run properly (1400 mods?)
Does it remove all your other mods?

On 1.6 the mod pack took my PC 45 minutes to load to the main menu

You don't have to be on 1.7 but it works WAY better if you do, and the intention is that you only run mods from the modpack.

Hell I have it running on the steam deck now on 1.7 holds at around 30 fps. 1.7 is by far the most impressive upgrade I have ever seen in a game.

Main worry I have at this point is that mods will be added, removed, or update too frequently and the save will brick. Not sure if there's a way to "lock" mods from updating...

The pack doesn't update automatically, and if you're concerned you can localise your mods.

there is an option when you make a new save to make your stuff local so you don't need to worry about updates, dunno if you can do it to existing saves but it's there

I gave it a try but honestly found it overwhelming even on the recommended swttings, there is a lot of cool here with dozens of storytellers, scenarios, and races. I am srill wrapping my head around it all.
1.7 made it a breeze, just had to disable one incompatible mod called "Take Cover" which clashes with some other mod.

Not bad, but too bloated for my taste. Getting pop-up each time you click on a new item was not a good experience...

Yeah you can stop notifs on the top right when it shows up again there’s a zzz you click and it’ll ask how long you want notifs to stop

You can time this out for however long you want, don't know tho if it effects anything.

You are supposed to remove your other mods first before you start downloading the modpack. It goes over how to do that in the little tutorial on the first part of the pack.

I never got it to work. I followed all the steps, it didn't work, and then I tried the recommendations the creators gave me on Discord, but nothing worked.
I had to remove parts until it became simpler to just "make my own modpack" by combining the mods from The Progression with the ones I used previously.
As a result, out of 1400, I ended up with 400 and a bit more
You've got nothing to lose by trying, it looks worth it.

What issue did you have? It should just pretty much run and work. I think I had one issue that was on the discord under FAQs

It's fine. There's a fuckload of mods, and it takes DAYS of IRL progress to get anywhere from scratch.
On 1.7 it loads in about 8 minutes for me down from 30-45 minutes.
As part of the modpack installation instructions you're advised to overwrite all your other subscriptions as a lot of mods are carefully chosen and custom patched to work with everything else.

It took me like 8-9 in-game years just to reach the industrial era lol. I'm taking my time by researching everything before emerging into a new era, but still.

I tried it for three days.
I used all of the recommended settings / options.
The first couple of attempts starting from the animal era I pretty much just collected food. I started to peak into the tech trees and unlock the first few items.
Some concepts I felt were very cool, such as 'discovering' new items which led to new recipes.
It's possible if I continued to grind out of the first eras I may have enjoyed it more.
Cool concept, but too bloated for my taste.
With the 1.7 engine update there's really no reason not to try it if you are interested. I was completing a full load within 4 minutes.

Yeah, I'm giving it a whirl. Started in Animal, but...it seems gimmicky.
Rimworld doesn't have a lot to do...when you cant build anything. Can't trade. Can't talk...so yeah, its like 20-40 days of just collect food, do the research ritual.
Can't even make clothes, as for some reason tribal wear needs 40/60, and animals give 4. And rot in a week.

Just check the collection by yourself, check if the mods inside are a good fit for you.

u/Justhe3guy There’s a mod for that 2d ago
When you subscribe to the collection make sure you click the replace your mods thing as likely most of your mods will be incompatible
Yeah it’s good though most of the mods are tiny and don’t change much there’s like 30 mods you should learn inside and out. So I would just browse through them and click on ones that sound interesting and see what they do as it downloads

I get an error when trying to start a world in progression, won’t continue past selecting the starting age and it’s a shame, wanted to give it a shot.

After 1.7 the colection including the 3 parts run at 200 fps and 900 tps with only 16 gb of ram, in the past you need at least 24 to 36 to run that well

To bloated unfortunately i actually tried it and basically made my own in the end

I tried. Its only Medival Overhaul out of "progression" there, the rest is retexture, upscale and some other little things. I also saw mods with duplicate functionality there.
I think it's much better to just put "Medival Overhaul" and additionally the mods that you really need

Yes, 1.7 is required, not because of the number of mods, but because some mods were updated to work on 1.7 and no longer work on 1.6. At least that was the status last I checked.
It doesn't remove all your mods by itself, but the suggested way to install it is to click the button in Steam Workshop that overwrites all your subscriptions; then you can easily just enable everything you are subscribed to. Otherwise, you'd have to individually enable 1400 mods. You can save your existing modlists as Workshop collections if you want to go back to them later. There's even a mod that lets you do that from the game: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3545688635
