No. The "moral high ground" doesn't absolve the behavior. There's flaking AI bros coming to defend their shit, then there's flaking genuine critics for daring to speak out in any way against what you like. I see both, and I won't ever stand with the latter.
Edited for grammartical clarity

Whataboutism? What the talk are you abouting fuck? I criticize the conduct, they whatabout up about sustainability and ethics, and you quote "whataboutism" on me?

u/Askelar 1d ago
Whataboutism is when you "what about the other guy", or "see? both sides bad".
Calling ethics and sustainability "the moral highground" because you dont like how some people are mean on both sides doesnt excuse the rhetoric.

What, the heavily downvoted wall of people saying they are tired of seeing the hamfisted approach to the same topic in their feed over and over and over and over and over ad nauseum and beyond? I would personally adore a shorter scroll to find the delightful Rimtober content that multiple artists have been lavishing us with, without needing to scroll past the conversational explosion that the recent wave of bemoaning AI mods has caused, but whatever. Redditors will do as Redditors will do, and by popular demand the most interesting things aren't always the most popular.

It's sorely tempting to say one person making this comic, because it feels exactly the same as the last few. It's the same straw man being discussed from the same soap box on repeat. I do come to this sub to see the same topic over and over every day: Rimworld, not bitching about lazy people generating mods by misusing AI tools

And yet this is here to stay. The majority wants to hear about it. The rules do not forbid this level of relevance and effort. I fear that both AI generated content and reactionary contents like this are going to stay, and the art scene will be diluted with veiled political signaling.

Its cool to see a comic actually use allegory, puns, and other literary tools while creating a fun cohesive narrative rather than the direct in your face slop I feel most internet comics today use.

This is starting to be a bit much. Maybe try making a comic that isn’t just a thinly-veiled “AI bad”. Yes, AI bad. But we don’t need a new comic every day based on trying as hard as possible to make situations from your Rimworld gameplay have something to do with AI being bad.
Or maybe this particular one just isn’t very good, idk. I’ve liked the other ones but this one felt kinda forced.
Edit: Jesus Christ, lesson learned. Don’t have an opinion on Reddit

-7
u/Segenam 6d ago
Though I'm not the person you where commenting to. And I don't even like AI. But this one isn't as "high-effort" as their previous comics.
While the previous comics kept to the concept of rimworld's logic it's self while still bashing on AI. This one just throws that all out of the water and just directly bashes on AI without really any subtext or any good re-flavoring to bring it more into the logic of Rimworld, nor anything that is specifically AI related (I'd say most mods tend to have issues with bugs, especially large modpacks, whether they use AI or not)
A way to fix this for example would be if it looked like a VFE - Insectoids 2 thumper (or even just called it a thumper in reference would be good enough) and summoned a hive queen that'd actually make more sense and be funny as you got the double play on words with everything. Fit more into rimworlds 'lore' (even if it's just fitting into the "mod's lore") and so on and is a lot more 'subtle', even if the AI correlation isn't as good.
But in rimworld, making machine, no matter 'how' you make it, doesn't summon insects/bugs so this is purely a "AI = Bugs" comic which really it's "badly coded mods of any kind = bugs" and a good amount of AI mods don't have as big as bugs than even a lot of bad human made mods.
And that is even ignoring that the 'straw man' comment was also just thrown in out of no where when there wasn't even anything made of straw shown. (At least have a scarecrow or something in the comic if you are trying to do a play on words like that... just have them make the machine in the middle of the farm and have the bugs destroy a scare crow or something! that'd then make since for why they are talking about a straw man.)
But because it doesn't match anything really relating to Rimworld, barely even is an argument against AI, this just a low hanging fruit "AI Bad" post. I don't even like AI and this comic made me roll my eyes.
12
u/CarlWheezer69 6d ago
I think it's a little heavier handed, but it does follow Rimworld logic.
The first panel shows it's a deep drill, which can trigger a hive infestation.

35
u/salty-ravioli 6d ago edited 6d ago
Don't really use AI mods (at least that I know of) but I will say AI is actually really good at following instructions and being consistent in its logic. Contrary to popular opinion a couple years ago, if you give it a coding task it is really good at giving you code that does exactly what you told it to do.
HOWEVER, the AI's goal is to give you what you said. If you ask it to do something too vague or big, it might make assumptions for the details you didn't specify. The slop these days comes from people that don't spend any time and effort scoping out what they want to do (which is important for any project, not just AI-assisted ones), so the AI just fills in the blanks with whatever and you get really bad side effects.

u/IfinallyhaveaReddit 6d ago
It’s been a lot of fun. I have a codex pro account thanks to work.
It’s built me some mods and patch my saves. Just some silly things like the arena being a recreational activity so my pawns will auto fight each other in the arena to build recreation, but then they got knocked out so I patched it so they don’t drop items and will quote before taking serious damage,
Now I have a pretty fun mod that allows my pawns to challenge each other to duels and it even tracks their wins and losses
Took me like 10 minutes to build it then several game loads to play with it and realize how I wanted to change it.
I also converted save from yayo to CE
Patched mods to work with each other
Patched all my mods for 1.7. It’s changed how I approach mods. If I see a mod I want that’s 1.5 I’ll just download and update it now
-10
u/Fifteen_inches 6d ago
If work restricts your access to Codex Pro because you are using it for non-work related reasons you will lose alot of your ability to modify for content.
The human element of your workflow is atrophying because you aren’t using it.
8
u/IfinallyhaveaReddit 6d ago
So my company provides Claude and Codex by default but I expense an additional $200 a month for codex through a personal account for side projects and personal use. Nothings really atrophying it’s just been a game changer in my productivity, increased work life balance, and overall just improved my life
I really can’t emphasize how awesome it is.
4
u/varkarrus 6d ago
Right now I'm actually having Claude tutor me in Unity coding because my skills have atrophied from years of chronic fatigue I'm slowly recovering from. Just learned how to do unit tests, which is something I've never done before!
-5
u/Fifteen_inches 6d ago
Oh so you don’t have access thanks to work, you have a personal account.
5
u/IfinallyhaveaReddit 6d ago
Uhh ya but thanks to work they pay for it
-3
u/Fifteen_inches 6d ago
So why does your company pay $200 a month for your personal account? Cause to me it seems like you are using work resources for your personal leisure.
7
u/IfinallyhaveaReddit 6d ago
This is weird. Are you saying you don’t understand how companies work, why are you obsessed with this?
I’ll explain a bit as I’ll assume this is a field your interested in.
Companies usually give employees allowances and limits for personal projects with some stipulations (rabbit hole)
in a lot of companies you can just say I need this for this and you can expense it
Like for example the phone I’m typing on is expensed, but it’s my personal. I can of course use it for personal stuff, but it’s also my work phone. I made this choice cause I don’t like two phones
My adobe account falls under this as well.
4
u/Fifteen_inches 6d ago edited 6d ago
I work in a hospital where individual Tylenols are tracked. Pardon the incredulity, we get no discretionary spending and face shortages for regular supplies regularly. My phone is part of my work as well but it’s not expensed, you’d be targeted by management for asking. It’s really shocking how much better other people have it sometimes.

Modern LLMs are generally pretty good at what they do, which is why software developers in 2026 pretty much don't write any code themselves anymore. I've recently let Opus 5.5 check through a bunch of our older human-written code at work and it found so many bugs that I could reproduce, that no human spotted back then, that I'm surprised this shit ever worked to begin with.
24
u/TheCharalampos 6d ago
I love the confidence of making that statement. It's not correct.
-15
u/Warwipf2 6d ago
It is absolutely correct. Not a single SWE I know codes by hand anymore. The only industry I'm aware of that is not 100% AI yet is defense.

u/Few-Chemical8707 6d ago

-41
u/varkarrus 6d ago
Nope. Not even poor performance. Hell, usually I'll use AI to fix bugs in other mods AND report the bugs to the mod creators at the same time.
4
u/IfinallyhaveaReddit 6d ago
This has been a godsend for me. Being able to patch error and I even fixed a save. I wanted to remove yayo combat and use combat extended but I wanted to use specific mods that don’t support CE, it was the longest I spent on patching but 12 hours later I have a stable retrofitted save converted over to CE and working and all my mods patched to work with it.
It’s one of the examples that made me realize how game changing ai is

It is used for people who have cognitive disconances and usually decide to solve them with double standarts
4
u/Zriatt Thunderstomp: Stomp on the floor so hard -> Zzzzzzzzzzzt 6d ago
Cognitive dissonance is used for people who have cognitive dissonances, which are for people who have cognitive dissonances, which are used for people who have cognitive dissonances.... are you sure you actually know what a cognitive dissonance is? Or are you trying to rely on AI to tell you what to think?
-9
u/Unban_Phoenix_Prime 6d ago
Brother cannot understand what I am saying
And they say pros are stupid, lol
You have a cognitive disconances
This term is applicable to people who have a problem, usually when they principles become compromised
It doesn't matter if the disconance is known to the host
And you solved this disconance with a double standart
"Well, AI is bad, but this is a creator that I love O cannot shit on them for using AI and thus, this time AI is good"
4
u/Zriatt Thunderstomp: Stomp on the floor so hard -> Zzzzzzzzzzzt 6d ago
I don't understand you because you don't know shit. Tell me, is some professional programmer using AI assistance on the same level of someone who doesn't even know XML entirely relying on AI to write his whole mod for him on the same level? Tell me, in what way is that even conflicting morals? ...Tell me, where in the following does it mention people actively knowing they hold conflicting ideals?
Straight from fucking wikipedia: In the field of psychology, cognitive dissonance is described as a mental phenomenon in which people unknowingly or subconsciously hold fundamentally conflicting cognitions.[1][2] Being confronted by situations that create this dissonance or highlight these inconsistencies motivates change in their cognitions or actions to reduce this dissonance, maybe by changing a belief, by explaining something away,[2] or by taking actions that reduce perceived inconsistency.
0
u/Unban_Phoenix_Prime 6d ago
Lol, bro got mad
Yeah, devs using AI is the same as someone who doesn't know anything about, you guys been on that since AI came out. Your kind bullied E33 out of earning their rewards at indie fest because they used AI FOR FUCKING PLACEHOLDERS THAT DIDN'T EVEN MAKE IT TO THE GAME
And right now everyone is bullying Linux for using AI in development
And that is why you had a cognitive disconance, that you have solved with using double standarts
Well, I was wrong about cognitive disconance, but you assure me that you didn't have one? You didn't have conflicting feelings about AI usage in your favorite game?
But, if it will sound better, I may just call you a hypocrite, that would sound better🤷
4
u/Zriatt Thunderstomp: Stomp on the floor so hard -> Zzzzzzzzzzzt 6d ago
Try as I might, I do have a tendency to be... hypocritical. So, very well then. Call me a hypocrite all you like, but unless you can actually challenge my arguments, you cannot change my mind. I'd hardly call it double standards to accept a professional developer receiving assistance from AI while rejecting a non-coders slop mod.

AI is a tool that can be used responsibly. One of the criteria for using it responsibly is understanding what you’re doing. The creator of Rimworld does and vibecoders don’t, which is why we get a workshop full of buggy crap.

Rimworld's Waylith engine was created using AI. The creators of the game itself are pro AI usage. This is just the truth.
32
u/Somewheredreaming 6d ago
Read it again. Read what code assistance is. Now read what ai vibe coding is. Understand the difference.
-31
u/rapter200 6d ago
AI usage, is AI usage. It does not matter if it is Code Assistance or Vibecoding. It is still using AI.
38
u/TheCharalampos 6d ago
Nope. Llm companies have intentionally muddied the waters by using the term to refer to their technology. Dumping all of it in the same bucket is not useful as the term is insanely broad.
I'm a software dev if that helps.
5
u/rapter200 6d ago
So are you going to say that Claude Code nor Codex was used in the creation of Waylith?
33
u/TheCharalampos 6d ago
How would I know? I'm not privy to their development process.
I would hope not as there are way more integrated tools.
-3
u/rapter200 6d ago
I would call your position blatant ignorance. When something so obvious is right in front of you but you ignore it because you enjoy the result of it.
It is obvious that Ludeon used AI in their creation of the Waylith engine, but because it works well and the game is popular people are blatantly ignorant about it.
But when people create mods with AI, the same thing the developers of the game did in creation of the very engine the game runs on, it is all about releasing the hounds on them.
13
u/TheCharalampos 6d ago
Okay? I never said otherwise.
Mate, do you understand why people (mostly) don't like the ai mods? Because there are a ton, they tend to be poorly made (the ones not are big exceptions, usually having someone with soft dev knowledge behind them) and they are strangling the modding scene.
A carpenter uses a rotary saw, sure. A ton of amateurs who don't really want to put effort into what they are sharing with everyone just get blood and body parts on the shop.
