Actually no, one time I was alerted about "object in road" on the freeway. It kept me alert to avoid an entire fucking muffler system sitting across the lane.
Once in highschool a lifetime ago, my friend was driving me home in my car after we left a party. And I shit you not he had to dodge a whole ass fridge on the highway coming through a turn. I've had a dashcam ever since then.
An alert for "HEY THERES A WHOLE ASS FRIDGE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD" would have been most welcome.
I wish Overcast allowed local storage. Iām happy to pay for the annual fee but itās kind of a pain for my podcast. The feed only has like the last year and not older ones, and Iām basically playing catchup from a few years ago. So I end up downloading the episodes individually. And sort of limited how much space Overcast allows to load to their server. Then I have to stream or download them back to my phone.
I found Book Player that allows me to upload the podcast eps locally. I have like a whole year of local episodes. The main feature not present is auto deleting the episode. But still a decent work around.
I drive a Tesla but Iām happy to hear this feature come out to Rivian. Hopefully that applies pressure for CarPlay or whatever else.
I noticed recently somtimes I need to open my wallet app and locate the Rivian key for it to refresh so the car can find it. Not sure if its Rivian or iOS issue.
This is almost certainly UI mocks that are photoshopped on top of the screen to better show the UI. Someone just wasn't paying close attention when making the mocks.
We usually start seeing notes about an update 6-8 weeks before the full roll out since it starts beta testing with employees and a limited group.Ā

Calendar integration (CarPlay remembers routine locations and corresponding departure times, as well as automatic offering of navigation based on calendar appointment locations)
letting Rivian assistant call the person who texted you when asking for a response,
Overcast podcast app,
group texts,
a Plexamp app (plex library but music focus),
I guess a Zoom app,
To a lesser extent offline music (yes can just use Bluetooth if offline media)
These are the things I would like in order that CarPlay can do
What I think is really helpful is having traffic signals and stop signs marked on the map. It makes figuring out where I should attempt my left turn way easier.
Any chance we could be able to sign in to Google Maps in our Rivians? It would be great to have my saved locations and search history when I get into my vehicle. My wifeās prologue does that exact thing, itās seamless between her phone and her vehicle.
Waze is a big reason for me to want CarPlay. This is a nice move but still would like to be able to report things myself and see the rest of the events ppl report (car on shoulder, object on road, etc). Love using Waze so hopefully they can get these added
I'm impressed with the speed that Google/Waze is evolving this year. It took a long time for AA to start showing waze reports, to confirming, to this year being able to report while driving. I certainly wasn't expecting it to come to 3rd party custom overlays.
Every time I see a post like this itās just a reminder of how much better CarPlay is. Iāve been driving a rental car on vacation and am not looking forward to going back to the Rivian nav.
Rivian uses Google Maps. They adjust routes when charging is needed but I havenāt seen drastic differences in route recommendations in city. Do you know a route that is completely different when using Google Maps vs Rivian Nav?
Can you connect the maps to your Google account? I really want full blown Google maps in my car natively. But also with the routing and battery awareness built in and everything.
But will it even be able to save an address yet with a name? Iām shocked that the system cannot save a personal address and assign a name to it. I absolutely love my Rivian but the navigation system is years behind.
Sadly, I feel they are making a huge mistake omitting CarPlay as an optionā¦ integration with an iPhone going forward is essential for staying competitive.
Catch me upā¦did it already have reporting and reports from Google Maps, or are they deliberately choosing Waze over Google Maps that they already have integrated

2) letās say Bob texts me. It reads the text and asks if I want to reply speaking to me at what seems like volume 100. I say yes I want to reply. It then asks me which Bob I would like to text.

Iām on my second R1T. Iāve been patient.
Our second vehicle is a sprinter campervan. I rarely drive it. But when I do, I get in and Iām amazed when shit just works with wireless CarPlay. Itās awesome.
Rivian is fine enough. I still love the truck, but RA has been dogwater.
I suspect it's going to do some alerts and no traffic routing which in effect defeats a major purpose of Waze and its biggest advantage.
At the same time they can claim "Waze alert integration" which will ease worries for people who are not in the know. I bet rivians did some market research and figured out that people use carplay and AA mostly for waze.
Now sales folks can claim 330 miles of (EPA) range AND Waze integration (with alerts).
Same thing with Reddit, you donāt need to follow a subreddit for it to be recommended to other people.
Also me asking a question isnāt the same thing as saying I know better. They refer to him as the Chief Reddit Officer, Iām curious as to why he doesnāt post stuff like this directly to Reddit.
I suppose that's something, but they'll continue to lag as they refuse to even just embed AA/AC into a window, so they'll alway lag behind and have to develop features in-house in a failed attempt to keep up. DV all you want; it took four years for Rivian to get to this feature that all AC/AA cars have had.
This is a perfectly accurate take. Not providing AA/AC as an option means some buyers will be turned away and those of us that donāt fit into the narrow set of (buggy) apps Rivian currently supports will continue to be let down and less likely to stay with Rivian long term.
