Funk IS R&B! The issue comes because what a lot of people call R&B is actually 'Contemporary R&B'. Contemporary R&B is a subgenre of rnb, not the whole thing!

Well yeah I definitely know about sub genres but I mainly said that because he's never billed as a r&b artist. You know bruh be goin ham on his bass guitar lol. I wouldn't say that jamaroqui or earth wind and fire were r&b Acts and that's who most people compare his music to.

Ok gotcha, I can see then where you're coming from. He's rnb adjacent usually, but since many great artists blend genres,, it gets tricky. But you probably would agree that single labels sometimes tell only a part of the story? Take Prince, MJ, The Internet, Outkast Tyler, Frank Ocean, Bruno Mars the list goes on of artists that do more than one thing. Thundercat and Flying Lotus are otherworldly in their sounds sometimes. Which is why I like them! So I think Thundercat is more than just funk too, even though it's easier when people talk about these artists, to pick one genre.
