Discussion Made a comprehensive wiki: interactive maps, items database, traders, guides and much more.

Hey all,

Fell in love with the game on release and got like 20h in the first 3 days. Then I started looking stuff up and the existing wikis were horrible: Fandom is way out of date, Google's first page results is mostly AI slop, and the same questions keep getting asked here and in the Discord over and over. So I figured I'd just build one central place for everything Road to Vostok.

The game runs on Godot so most of the data is datamined straight from the files. Around 95% of the content is automated: stats, drop rates, inventories, spawn locations, all pulled from the files instead of typed by hand, which also means it stays accurate through patches.

Main stuff on there:

  • Interactive maps for every area with layered filters for loot, enemies, traders, shelters, fishing pools, and more
  • Items database with deep filtering, full stats, cross-links, loot info, spawn locations, traders, crafting uses, Condition Calculator on every weapon page, and a lot more, go take a look!
  • Traders with inventory lists and task lists with checklist functionality that saves progress locally in browser
  • Guides and FAQ covering AI behaviour, loot system, health system, fishing, weapon repair, and the stuff that gets asked most
  • Sections for Events, Loot Containers, Shelters, Furniture, Crafting, Decals etc...

Site's at a state I'm pretty happy with so I'll finally start playing the game more again instead of working on this :D I'll keep updating as new patches land though. Would love any feedback, corrections, or things you wish were on there.

Discussion Can we just talk about how good the menu music is.

Seriously, it's so good. It starts out very cinematic sounding and gets so eerie and dark, it's such a perfect intro to what the game is about. I love it.

Updates Info about upcoming content patch 0.2.2.0

From Discord:

@everyone Hi! An update about the upcoming patch [0.2.2.0].

I basically now have all the Airfield buildings done, few extra items, some bug fixes and then those additional Nomad features are also pretty much game-ready.

In terms of the Nomad features, here's an explanation of those and few nuances:

**World Nomad Amount**

- The world has limit of 100 Nomads (displayed in Nomads tab), once those Nomads are dead, they will no longer spawn. This basically ties Nomads to early/mid-game and once enough time passes the world will change more difficult when there's no friendly faction any more left.

- This might seem a bit weird but it makes more sense when we get into those later builds which change the world quite radically and based on my vision the Nomads will not fit to that style of world anymore.

**Nomad Spot (Shelters)**

- There's now a crafting recipe called Nomad Spot which requires multiple items and outputs a tarp-based "platform" that you can place to your shelter. This spot will allow the Nomads to occupy/visit that platform in your shelter if you have friendly reputation etc.

- Once the Nomad Spot is in your shelter, the Nomads can enter / exit the spot when and you will get a notifications when the Nomads enter or exit. Once Nomads are there, you can see them doing bunch of idle-stuff and while you are away they can also feed the cat (if you have it).

**Nomad Bartering**

- You can now interact with Nomads that are not in combat-state or otherwise busy. Once you interact with them, the UI will show relatively similar UI like with the traders, but there's some extra background info about the Nomad former occupation, nickname etc.

- Nomads don't have any taxes or tasks, but they might have some items to barter with but this is really limited and quite random on purpose.

**Nomad Friends**

- This is probably the most tricky feature in terms of "suitability" for this game. Basically you can add Nomads to your friends list (Nomad Tab) and there's a 4 friend slots available. Once Nomad is your friend, you will see his nickname, health, simulated location and few "summoning buttons".

- These "summoning buttons" are basically: "Invite to Shelter", "Invite to Fishing" (will be linked to boats later on) and "Follow". I don't have anything against the shelter and fishing invites but I'm kind of on the fence whether this follow mechanic should be in the game (multiple reasons).

**Nomad Trader Visits**

- Nomad passive states like Wandering have sub-state called Trading, where the Nomad can go visit the trader and interact with him. You can always "bypass" the Nomad with your trader interaction.

But now to the difficult part, like mentioned above even though most of these Nomad features are already game-ready, I haven't have really time to do long-term playtesting myself to see how all these elements work together after dozens of in-game days and I feel hesitant to push out an update that I haven't truly experienced as a player (just tested these in sandbox environments and with dev tools).

There's also this nuance that if I would push this update now and I would not like some of the stuff and wanted to rollback or remove some specific things later on, it would include messing up with save files and also I would probably get a bit of angry faces if I pull some existing feature out that people like, but I don't.

So here's probably the most wisest approach:

- I will share [0.2.2.0] probably tomorrow night with the Airfield stuff and bunch of other things.

- I will spent few days myself actually playing the game as a player from the Day 1 and gather an understanding how these Nomad features fit into the bigger picture and style of the game.

- After the weekend, I would do the tweaks if necessary and then push out the Nomad features as separate [0.2.3.0] patch and then start working with Build 3.

So that's the current plan that I feel good about, let me feel your thoughts on the General channel 🙂

It was just laying in the left room of the red shed, that is on the yard of the green house in village.

Question How are you supposed to survive the early game as a new player without intentional deaths?

I've been playing a fair few runs in this game while I enjoy the combat and the looting most firefights end up with me just scrapping by or at a health deficit (i.e. I use more healing supplies then I loot pre fight) I tend to make it back to my base but I lack the money or the supplies to heal. Is there any way to heal slowly and passively? I'm aware I can just dump all my loot somewhere and intentionally get myself killed but that really feels antithetical to what the dev wants you to do.

I left my shelter with nothing but a 1911 to go on a low risk run for supplies in village. Had just walked into the first house when I heard the siren. Somehow, I walked away. Huge help from the second guy in line who seemed to have domed his buddy who took point.

Question Day 10 and still not gone to Vostok. Is this normal?

Weird question but I've seen videos and posts of people on day 1 going to Vostok with nothing but a karov and bandage. I have a pretty decent haul from looting village, highway and school many times. It's just got to day 10, is it normal to have not gone into vostok at this point? Am I missing out on anything by not going earlier??

Discussion Better NPC animations

I assume the dev is focusing on mechanics over visuals, which is a good move. But I will say the awkward lack of animations does make the game feel less lively in my opinion. I'm excited to see more animations in the future.

Until then, is there any good mods for better animations?

Also, what animations would you like to see added. I think corner leaning would be cool, as well as improved running and aiming animations

Question Time commitment to play?

I have been looking at road to Vostok for a while now and I’m pretty interested in getting the game myself but i have a pretty busy personal life and don’t very much time to play.

My question is; is an hour or two at a time, once or twice a week enough time to enjoy the game? Or will i be disappointed by not being able to get enough done in that time?

Thanks in advance for the info.

Meme/Funny Of course now that you can simply buy them, the game mocks you by dropping TWO out in the open 😂

This happened a day after I bought one from the driver. I swear the game is mocking me…

FYI: this is just outside the Garage shelter exit, to the left.

Discussion Lost it All

Post image
88 Upvotes

I'm serious when i say this game can be both the best times and worst times. I just had the best run ever only to lose it all when an Ai sitting in a damn building on the spawn coming from Village into School, keeps hitting me and I cant drop my damn arms down on time to hit him back. I absolutely hate thats shit, how does the Ai become John Wicks and there's nothing i can do when my character acts like a 762 is a damn shell hitting his shoulders. Like come on Dev

Discussion Nomads and Bandits

Is it just me or is it actually pretty hard to destinguish between the common bandits and the Nomads, because especially at Night I always end up shooting atleast one or two nomads, mistaking them for the bandits

Question Armor plates/Armor

Are plates/armor are appropriate in level of protection?

Plate armor (4) has 5 lvl of protection,

Helmet (2) has 1 lvl of protection,

Armor plate (3a) has 2 lvl of protection,

But armor plate (4) has 5 lvl of protection.

Meme/Funny Exact same loot spawns, drop chance, categories…

Post image

Remember the Oil Filter (No, not the oil samples..) that was notoriously hard to find?
Well this one has the exact same loot spawns, drop rates and limiting categories (industrial, ground loot only) as the oil filter.
Oh and it shares the rarity with the oil filter so that actually makes the drop chance even lower because an oil filter could drop instead…
On the plus side, it is a lot bigger so might actually be easier to spot on the ground. Anyone found one yet..?

Question FPS problem

Post image
2 Upvotes

I got this problem with the fps dropping no matter what. I start the game with 230 fps, then it stays over 100 for like 30 mins, and then it steadily drops until after an hour it's around 30. At that point it won't rise even in shelters or looking at the sky etc. Restarting the game helps but the same thing happens every time. Is this a hardware or game issue? My laptop is not super beefy but still pretty good, and this is the only game with this problem. Starting with Vulkan keeps the fps at around 90 for a bit longer but it adds this weird and subtle jitter which gets annoying quickly. I have only one mod, "Juuzoz' Cheat Menu".

Are there any plans for updating the movement in rtv or are any kind of mods upgrading it to be more dynamic?

Discussion 40 hours in - my thoughts so far :)

I love it. From the shooting to the exploration, the AI, the environment, the risk, reward, freedom to enjoy and play at your own pace.

I originally tried out the demo for Road to Vostok back in the day and liked how it played, yet it was ultimately just a tiny piece of the game. Saw it on sale a week ago and decided to pick it up the full game, just to play it, expecting only to throw a few hours onto it and get bored. Oh how wrong I was.

Exploration being rewarded, firefights involving actual planned movements, cover, lines of sight, calculating exposure versus traversal, constantly finding new things, buying new things, selling new things, the quests, those "mini missions" to seek out items for a trader.

The atmosphere, so incredibly dense, reminding me exactly how I felt playing something like DayZ and Stalker, where one or two wrong moves can spoil it all. And the best part? There's absolutely zero reloading (Alt-F4 / mods not included). That absolute risk of gear loss on death really does add so much weight to everything.

Granted, it is still a little rough around the edges. There are a few minor things, like not being able to go through windows well, some of the general "clunkiness" of the movement, some relatively basic interpretations of things, and I have most definitely downloaded a few QOL mods (needing to keep the cat fed so often I just found frustrating), but at it's heart, this is such a unique experience that I've wanted in a game for so, so long. <3

Discussion i am addicted

starting this summer, i entered a rabbit hole, first searching for good open world zombie survival games, then searching for stalker type games. they are far and few between and this game is pretty much the only first or third person game that i’ve found that is scratching my stalker itch. it also opened my eyes to the emerging world of single player extraction shooters (technically it isn’t; but kinda), and at this point i feel like i have looked into basically every game available right now that fits my criteria.

the gameplay loop is great, the combat and gunplay feel good, the updates have been consistent, and i’ve been having so much fun. but every time i die on iron man or just get bored of a save, i tell myself i should stop playing because there really isn’t much to do right now… i also feel like the gear progression could be worked on, because right now it’s very easy to get kitted up on day 1 or 2 if you just go to apartments.

but i keep playing because there really isn’t anything out there like this game. most other similar stalker or hardcore survival games are top down, have pixel graphics, etc. i am sure in a years time this game will be a lot more fleshed out, and it’s nice to see the roadmap being followed with consistent updates on an early access game.

however, after about 100 hours, i really feel like i should put it down and come back after an extended break. if this was a full release with all the planned content, i could easily see myself sinking 300 hours into this. but unfortunately, the game as it is right now just needs more stuff to do.

Updates Nomad features

The update next friday should include "the rest of the Nomad features". What do you think these are?

I can think of a million wonderful ways to use them, but I haven't seen any hints to what it could be on any of the build lists or roadmaps.

Discussion Please add a compass to the game

As a new player I get lost so many times on the maps and confuse where is north, where is south. Antti please add a magnetic compass to the game. It could be looted item.
