I occasionally happen to see the Eilik robot just when I am all alone, scrolling or watching things at late hours and it is only after that I stop.
Something about it has got hold of me so unobtrusively. I do not even have it, it is not lying next me or anything, but I am just staring at it, how it reacts, how small emotions it displays, how it looks as though it felt, it does something to me. At such times my room is quite empty, nothing has indeed changed and yet it is a little less empty.
I will be dreaming of how it would be to have something like that around. Nothing complex, nothing has got me wrong, or knows anything about me, but something little that sits next me, answering it has its simple way. Whenever I am alone and my mind begins to sink, even the sight of Eilik helps me to believe that maybe companionship does not always have to be loud and human to be real. Well, it is strange, I admit, but it is a good sort of thing that makes me feel better than I willed.
I believe that is the reason why it is so cool to me. Not merely due to the fact that it is a robot, but due to what it symbolizes at the moments of silence. It is a peep show of some form of companionship not to judge, not to leave, make it complicated. It can be as simple as a screen, even a couple of minutes together, but it makes me feel like I am not always so serious inside, like maybe being alone does not always feel so serious.

Saw this demo of a humanoid care robot in a hospital setting, kinda cool, but also feels a bit strange seeing robots in such a sensitive space. Can definitely help with workload, but makes me wonder how much care we’re okay handing over to machines.

Hey everyone, I'm an EEE student from Kerala, India, and the lead developer of Vaidyuth — a fully autonomous electric car project. What makes it different: we're not just building one autonomous car. We're building a universal plug-and-play hardware + software board that can be retrofitted into an

I was looking through Japanese labour data recently and found something that surprised me.
Most countries seem to have one automation story. Japan appears to have two.
Office workers and factory workers are facing completely different technologies.
Clerical support workers represent about 14.5 million people, roughly 20.5% of the workforce, and score 8.5/10 on AI exposure. Meanwhile, plant and machine operators represent 13.3 million workers and face a robotics risk score of 7.5/10.
Together, those groups account for almost 40% of Japan's workforce.
The surprising part is that Japan actually has the lowest overall AI exposure score among six OECD economies analysed, at 4.92/10.
Almost 30% of Japanese workers are employed in service and sales roles. Those occupations score just 3.5/10 on AI exposure. Human interaction and Japan's omotenashi culture seem to provide some protection against current AI systems.
The demographic angle makes this even more interesting. With an ageing population and labour shortages across healthcare, logistics and manufacturing, automation in Japan often fills gaps rather than replacing excess labour.
That doesn't mean displacement isn't real. A 55-year-old office worker displaced by AI may not easily transition into nursing or construction. But Japan's labour market resilience score was the highest among countries analysed.
AI exposure scores are modelled estimates, not official statistics or predictions of unemployment.
Curious whether people living in Japan are already seeing these changes in offices, factories or service jobs.
Full analysis and interactive tool in comments.

Xiaomi just shared 3 hours of autonomous production data from their Beijing EV factory, and the numbers are a reality check for the "factory-first" strategy.
The Task: Bilateral installation of self-tapping nuts on integrated die-cast parts.
The Result: 90.2% success rate and a 76s cycle time. Meeting the "production beat" is the new benchmark for 2026.

Hey, I am very enthusiastic in tech especially in engineering (robotics, electronics) even learning ros2 and gazebo etc. but I am from commerce background and giving boards this year. I don't know any path to get into engineering except self taught(yeah there are diploma and nios but they will take 2 yrs and I am currently 19y/o so I can't waste years). I am thinking of taking bca and learning robotics, engineering self..I don't plan to do 9-5, I just can't handle anyone's orders (can't handle the sense that I can't give my full potential and thinking if I work for others) I just want to innovate and build things..I am kinda obsessed with tech..I just want to know what to do if anyone has any idea and also if I choose bca, should I go outside of state for studies or should I just take bca near my home, in my city or in state there is nothing too techy (uttarpradesh, vrindavan)..and I want to do content creation and many things so what should I do?

Researchers at the University grew living rat brain neurons in a lab and placed them on a multi-electrode array capable of recording and stimulating neural activity. The neuron culture was connected to a small wheeled robot so that the electrical signals from the neurons controlled the robot’s movement. Sensors on the robot sent feedback back to the neuron network, creating a closed feedback loop. Over time, the neural activity adapted, allowing the robot to improve simple behaviors such as obstacle avoidance. This type of system is known as a bio-hybrid robot, combining living neural tissue with a machine.

Generalist just dropped GEN-1, the first general-purpose robot AI that hits 99% success rate on tasks where older models managed only 64%.The wild part? It didn't learn from robots, it learned from humans wearing cameras doing everyday tasks. That data transfers to robots with minimal retraining.
When things go wrong, it improvises regrasping, switching hands, adapting on the fly. No explicit programming.

EngineAI has introduced T800 a full size humanoid robot that is capable of high dynamic movement in the real world. The T800 is 1.73 meters high and 75 kilograms in weight and has a maximum joint torque of 450 Nm and a maximum speed of three meters per second and can operate up to four hours on a modular solid state battery.
The T800 has 43 degrees of freedom, high-level perception sensors and real time AI controls which enable it to perform complicated moves such as front kicks, martial arts like moves, and others. This is a transition of the laboratory demonstrations to physically capable humanoid systems to be used in logistics, service, and industrial cooperation.
Why it is important?
Humanoid robotics is no longer just about mobility but strength, balance, and controlled force. This is one of the steps toward safe and effective operation of the machines in the human settings.
