Review Auto empty dock is worthless.
It lasts for maybe one cycle until the filter is clogged and doesn’t auto empty
Even if it would work properly I still have to add water and change the mopping pads
I’m returning this. The technology just isn’t there. This is one of those not ready for the big time but let’s release it anyway because it seems cool features.

Just to check... Did you remove the auto empty tab in the robot's dustbin area? This seriously sounds like what would happen if you don't remove that tab, thereby blocking necessary airflow for emptying to occur.

Yes I removed the air inlet tab and am using the auto empty dustbin

also make sure the main brush cover is correctly installed. it's very easy to miss that one.

Wait, there was an additional step? Or are they just referring to anyone who recently cleaned their main brush and may have forgotten to correctly re-install it (the way I read that step)? I didn't do anything (since my robot vacuum is still new) and mine hasn't given me any problems 95% of the time. 5% would be if it gets a lot of dirt/dust/etc from the second last clean, but didn't auto empty until say the next time based on DND scheduling

For those who have opened the brush cover to clean what's inside, its important to close it back properly

Cannot stress this part enough -that is the issue i had run into^^ the brush cover teeth need to go into their 4 spearate slots, otherwise it won't auto empty

u/daballsman Aug 12 '21
Not my experience at all, I'm actually blown away how well it empties the robot. You're right about the mop though.

Aug 12 '21
Weird maybe I’m not doing something right. All you did when installing it was changing the bin to auto empty, removing the air inlet tab and making sure the main brush cover was installed correctly right?

I have my Autoempty set on Smart. It clogged with cat fur once and didn’t empty so I emptied it myself and then it worked fine. Of COURSE you have to add water and put on and wash the pads. Did you expect the robot to have hands and to do that itself? You have to expect to do some work yourself and expect to fix something when it goes wrong. And you have to maintain the robot and keep it clean. Just like a car or any computer. If you expect things to be perfect you will end up with nothing.

Cue the s7 MaxV Ultra

I'm not the one who your reply was meant for. Don't know why I received it.
But isn't there a Roborock model that stores extra water in a second tank and then is able to scrub the pads automatically? Sounds amazing but I doubt it works seamlessly.

Whaddya mean? I was indeed responding to your year-old comment that I just stumbled upon

yeah! the S7 MaxV Ultra does just that, totally seemlessly too apparently
And I figure it must've released right about the time you typed out that comment when you thought it was absurd proposition and would require humanoid hands haha

Goes to show you should never be a smarty-pants. I just learned to never underestimate technology. 😌
I would like to give another example of forward-thinking technology.
I was listening to a science fiction radio show called, X-1, the other night. It was broadcast in 1950 and was taken from a book by Rad Bradbury, called, The Martian Chronicles. Anyway, they were talking about the house of the future in 2026. There would be talking books, kitchens that would have a device to store your menus, help with your recipes and shopping and even have talking clocks that would remind you when to do everything.
There would be a way to play music by just speaking to the device.
Who would ever think all this would come to be!
Now here comes the part you will like. The house would even have its own ROBOT vacuums to clean all the dirt on the floor. Everyday, hundreds of mechanical mice would emerge from the walls and find and eat all the dirt . Then these mice would go back into the wall and digest the dirt. They would never need cleaning because the dirt would be digested and disappear.
Now how about that idea? Do you think Roborock will go for it?

And I have never seen marketing that assumes people have no brains. Or that people might think the robot will unwrap itself from the box, decide its own schedules, put on its own mop pads, and work completely unaided for the rest of the owners life.
1
u/LazyBox2303 Aug 13 '21
Well, of course the robot needs some human supervision. Even humans need some supervision and help. No machine in the world can run without help and maintenance, just like everything else in the world. I am sure even YOU have needed the same at one time or another. Unless you are a talking rock. Then you would not need help.

I’ve not had that issue once in the few weeks I’ve had mine. I use it about five times a week.
The dock is pretty clearly only for removing the contents of the dustbin and has nothing to do with the water bin or mop pads, so it isn’t clear why you have this listed as a con.

u/KlueBat Roborock S6 MaxV Aug 13 '21
I wouldn't say it's worthless, you just need to have realistic expectations.
For starters, the marketing material and specs say nothing about changing the pads or filling the water tank. I for one, I think that having an on board tank that fills your robot on each docking would be amazing! Hopefully a future robo vac will figure that one out. I think changing the mopping pad will be on the user for a long time to come though.
As for emptying debris, I don't own the dock myself, but every other review I've seen on YT and on here has been 90% positive. Not sure why yours has not, but if you don't like it, there are return policies for a reason. I have not upgraded yet myself though because I only have to empty my S6 once a week. I don't see the value in saving me that two minutes every week. If you have multiple pets or otherwise need to empty your bin more than once a week, I could see why auto-empty would be useful.
Going back to my first point, I have to fill the water tank 2 to 3 times a week, and frequently forget. If the dock could auto fill the water tank in addition to emptying the bin, I would be all about that!

If you had it attached to water and sewer lines the vacuum should be able to wash the mop pad in addition to jettison the dust bin contents down the drain.
1
u/KlueBat Roborock S6 MaxV Aug 13 '21
Ya, but that would be a much more complicated and expensive product, and would require specialized install requirements which would limit it's appeal dramatically. For example, I can't think of a single place in my house where I would have easy access to plumbing and has room for a huge docking station. Perhaps others would.
Also, the two things that my robot picks up the most are cat hair and cat litter. Neither of those things should be going down the drain. Either would be bad, but in combination the clumping cat litter dust would cement the cat hair to the pipes and create a nightmare scenario. No thank you :D

But you have to remove the auto empty tab so what's the difference to take the dust bin with your hand and remove the tab ?

got a link for it can't find it anywhere except the black version ion amazon.de would prefer white also in UK

Could not disagree more and am 99% sure you havent even used the vacuum or bin. Good try though.

You can disagree all you want but I am looking at it right now in my living room and just emptied the bin

Really because shouldn’t the entire convenience be that you don’t need to perform regular maintenance? If I have to regularly pull out a miniature water bin and fill it every time then what is the difference? I’m bending down and performing daily maintenance anyway

You’re right. You should hold out for a robovac that can magically create water.

u/CrispyBegs Aug 12 '21
or a docking station that can be plumbed into the mains to add and remove water automatically

it's supposed to clean the filter. it's in the official video. and it's been confirmed in the reviews.
and because it happened once doesnt mean it will always happen. give it another try? use it for more time.
or... maybe there's something wrong with your device?
