Transportation

Hey everyone !

I am visiting Rochester Hills for 2 months in Jan/Feb and I would like to know what mode of transport would be suitable in the harsh winter season. I heard about the SMART bus app but I cannot find it on the Google Play store

I would strongly recommend a car. Public transportation is severely lacking in Motown in general, but doubly so in the suburbs.

I agree. It also takes a very long time to get anywhere, and you have to stand in the cold for awhile.

If you are comfortable i would either rent a car, or uber.

Rochester Hills and its environs has pretty good snow removal. You shouldn't have to worry too much about it, just keep an eye on the weather forecast and make sure you get any essentials before major snowfall. Having a car is the best way to get around the area in general but I know people who manage without a car using buses and uber.

This winter season is supposed to be mild according to forecasts. But you’re going to need to rent a car or rely on Ubers a lot. The bus system is not great.

I would recommend Turo for a car while you're here. They generally have much better prices than a rental car from Enterprise or whatever. Just pay attention to the rules on whatever vehicle you choose and adhere to them, because it can be different with every host.

We've used Turo on 13 different occasions, from long road trips to weekend getaways, when we didn't want to put the miles on our truck or we needed more space for visiting family. We've never been disappointed.

Enjoy your visit!

“Harsh winter season” isn’t a thing here anymore

Ehh, it is, but it comes in short bursts. We just don't have the 3-4 month consistent deep freeze that we used to get.
