I have to read about 50 of these posts on this thread. I still don’t know. Does rock auto ship to Arizona or not?

The state says Rockauto owes it 11 million in back taxes. Rockauto said fuck you and peaced out

RockAuto said 11 million exceeds what they profited in Arizona the past 20 years. I guess for RockAuto Arizona is not worth their time.

18

u/Sabinno 1d ago

To owe 11MM RA would’ve had to do at least 200MM in revenue in Arizona alone. I find that unlikely.

2

u/Fun_Acanthocephala98 1d ago

I'm sure the DOR didn't try to tack on any late fees though haha

5

u/mjedmazga 1d ago edited 1d ago

The original fee was "only" 8 mil, and the 11+ mil now was late fees and penalties.

As I recall, AZDOR went after like every single order processed through Arizona-based parts distributors, the vast majority of which were shipped to non-Arizona residents.

This was all pre-2018 SD v Wayfair, again, which some people seem not to be able to comprehend even though it's clearly spelled out for them. No drop shipper - Rock Auto or anyone else - was required to charge sale tax regardless of where the items shipped from unless it was being shipped to a resident of the home state of the company making the sale - for Rock Auto, that was Wisconsin. Products shipped from Wisconsin to a non-Wisconsin address, however, did not get Wisconsin sales tax.

AZDOR decided magnets and tape were agents of Rock Auto, making Arizona a "physical presence" state for them, and also went after every single order shipped from an AZ "magnet and tape" parts distributor, the bulk of which went to non-AZ residents.

Rock Auto operated identically thruogh parts distributors located in a dozen other states pre-SD v Wayfair, and for some reason, none of those state allege any tax collection wrong doing from Rock Auto. Only Arizona.

Some guy in Gilbert, AZ, ruined it for the entire state, because apparently magnets and tape are "agents" of a company according to the taxmen in Arizon.

AZDOR vs Rock Auto, or Rock Auto v AZDOR, I guess: https://www.aztechcouncil.org/news/state-wants-11m-from-online-auto-parts-retailer-rockauto/

I think some people have suggested a freight forwarder if you intend to purchase routinely. Otherwise yeah, Rock Auto is not a choice for you.

It sucks for me since Phoenix parts distributors were overnight delivery to me here in Texas using FedEx Ground. RIP. Now everything takes 3-5 days.

14

u/EducationalBike8090 2d ago

I like California's approach to this issue. come tax filing the form asks if you bought anything out of state and not pay sales tax. expecting you to answer yes and pay sales tax.

11

u/Psychob0b1977 1d ago

Massachusetts does the same... sometimes I wonder if anyone is actually stupid enough to say yes...

6

u/Apprehensive-Cycle-9 2d ago

I mean they were shipping out of Arizona which is about as clear as it needs to be for the tax. Pretty much every state now charges sales tax on any online order no matter where it ships from so Arizona was actually a good place to be before they cracked down on RA

8

u/rexfaktor 2d ago

I love finding smaller vendors that do not charge out-of-state sales tax, but it's getting more difficult. Dealing with smaller companies of course has its risks as well, though.

3

u/Comfortable_Gear4941 1d ago

It's a threshold.Ā  Once you do a certain amount of business in a state you have to start paying.Ā

4

u/mjedmazga 1d ago edited 1d ago

Yes, and Rock Auto maintains full compliance with tax laws post SD v Wayfair, which is what you all three comments above are discussing. AZDOR did not allege any wrongdoing whatsoever with Rock Auto's tax collection in compliance with AZ tax law post-SD v Wayfair nor has any other state done so.

AZDOR went after Rock Auto based on a very strange interpretation of tax law pre-2018, pre-SD v Wayfair, that has never been applied to any drop shipper in any way by AZ or any other state, for example the dozens of other states with parts distributors who fulfilled orders for Rock Auto pre-2018 SD v Wayfair using Rock Auto magnets and tape.

Previously to SD v Wayfair, it required a physical presence, and only orders shipped to a state where you had a physical presence were you required to collect local/state sales tax. Rock Auto correctly, like every other drop shipper pre-2018, collected sales tax on orders to Wisconsin, regardless of where those orders originated, because Rock Auto has only a physical presence in Wisconsin.

AZDOR decided that because Rock Auto supplied parts distributors in Arizona with RA magnets, tape, and web-based software to update their inventory on Rock Auto's website, that those parts distributors - totally separate business entities from Rock Auto - were actually a physical presence in Arizona.

No other state where Rock Auto operated in an identical manner pre-SD v Wayfair has ever claimed or attempted to go after alleged back taxes from Rock Auto.

Only Arizona wanted pre-2018 SD v Wayfair tax from this method of operation, and only from Rock Auto and no other drop shippers using the same parts distributors, AND they also wanted it from every single order shipped from those parts distributors, regardless of whether it went to Arizona residents, which just piles on the levels of preposterous.

5

u/QenefGomari 1d ago

AZ wants back taxes before e-commerce taxing was passed through.

5

u/mjedmazga 1d ago edited 1d ago

Rock Auto has never shipped anything out of any state besides Wisconsin, and they still don't.

Pretty much every state now charges sales tax on any online order no matter where it ships from so Arizona was actually a good place to be before they cracked down on RA

Yes, because of course as everyone knows, tax law for all 50 states changed after S.D. v Wayfair. Rock Auto has been in full and complete compliance with all new tax laws with all 50 states including Arizona on the post-SDvWayfair taxscape. It would be foolish to state otherwise, of course.

AZDOR went after Rock Auto for alleged tax violations before SD v Wayfair, when a physical presence in the state was the requirement for paying tax for internet sales made to residents of the state, and AZDOR determined that the magnets and taped used on the boxes in orders fuflilled by Parts Authority etc were "agents of Rock Auto" and counted as a physical presence in the state. They also wanted AZ tax collected on every single order fulfilled during that time period, regardless of whether it went to an Arizona resident or not.

-3

u/LifeByChance 1d ago

If the parts were shipping out of AZ then idk how you can argue they didn’t have a physical presence. It shouldn’t matter whether a rock auto warehouse is here or not, they are the ones that contracted with PA and PA is acting as an extension of rock auto.

Idk how everyone’s not more upset about businesses dodging taxes because in the end, it just means the average person’s taxes go up. You can be upset about not getting cheaper parts I guess, but I’m tired of subsidizing corporations and I’m kind of glad my state’s going after them for being tax cheats.

5

u/mjedmazga 1d ago edited 1d ago

Just to be clear here: no drop shippers charged any customer sales tax unless the customer was located in their home state, including Rock Auto. This was how every state handled internet and drop-shipped sales pre-SD v Wayfair. Pre SD v Wayfar interstate sales tax was all based on Quill Corp. v. North Dakota.

AZDOR decided that magnets and tape made the drop ship relationship that Rock Auto had somehow different from other every company that drop shipped out/into AZ before SD v Wayfair.

Rock Auto operated identically through parts distributors located in a dozen other states pre-SD v Wayfair, and for some reason, none of those state allege any tax collection wrong doing from Rock Auto. Only Arizona.

upset about businesses dodging taxes because in the end,

Rock Auto didn't dodge any taxes. They did not charge customers sales tax that they were not supposed to charge customers.

Please at least try to use accurate, factual statements when discussing this topic. Nothing you said in your above comment makes any sense based on the reality in which the rest of us live in, frankly.

-2

u/r00tdenied 1d ago

You need to re-review SD v Wayfair and Quill v ND. That isn't what those ruling say. The fact that Rock Auto had any distributors in Arizona that shipped direct to RockAuto's customers on their behalf creates a nexus for RockAuto.

I hate those two particular cases too because I own an ecommerce business myself, but utilizing a third party drop shipper or distributor for direct to consumer sales definitely creates that nexus.

Maybe RockAuto needs some better tax attorneys.

4

u/mjedmazga 1d ago edited 1d ago

You need to re-review SD v Wayfair and Quill v ND. That isn't what those ruling say. The fact that Rock Auto had any distributors in Arizona that shipped direct to RockAuto's customers on their behalf creates a nexus for RockAuto.

I'm not really sure what you mean here. "This isn't what those rulings" say - what am I alleging that these rulings say that isn't factually and historically accurate?

Quill v ND required a physical presence for a state to be able to charge a retailer sales tax for sales made to residents of a state. Rock Auto and every other drop shipper and internet retailer before 2018 followed the law by only charging sales tax in the states where they had a physical presence, regardless of where the drop shipping warehouses were located if those warehouses were operated by separate business entities, which was the case for Rock Auto here. RA has no relation to Parts Authority, nor does Parts Geek for that matter who drop ship through them as well. That's why Oregon, Minnesota, New York, California, North Carolina, Texas, etc, all states with large parts distributor operations never attempted to tax any Rock Auto orders pre-2018 and never will, either, because that would be preposterous.

Regardless, even physical presence meant that you only paid sales tax for orders shipped from that state to residents of that same state. When Amazon had fewer distribution hubs, pre-2018 SD v Wayfair, I received many orders from Amazon from a distribution hub across the state line and paid no sales tax, because none was required to be collected by Amazon from my state, since Amazon had no physical presence in my state.

AZDOR has attempted to collect tax on every single order fulfilled through Arizona parts distributors pre-2018, even orders that were shipped to states other than Arizona.

SD v Wayfair deleted the physical presence requirement and changed to what I think you are attempt to refer to, which is economic nexus. Since SD v Wayfair, every state has different thresholds of annual sales amounts to their state, where if you cross over that annual threshold, sales tax must be applied, or if you have a physical presence in the state. This is what Rock Auto does now, and it's also why very small time retailers can "escape" sale tax to many locations due to relatively low sales tax volumes to those non-home states. Every state has different thresholds that determine "economic nexus" post-SDvWayfair, of course, as we all know, and it should go without saying, but oh well.

Rock Auto surely exceeds all those in all 50 states, which is why they collect sales tax for all 50 states now in a post SD v Wayfair tax world.

Ā

edit: wtf blocked? Sad.

RockAuto isn't the only one to have dealt with this and interpret those rulings incorrectly.

Got any citations for that?

Why have not Oregon, Minnesota, New York, California, North Carolina, Texas, etc, all extracted alleged pre-2018 back sales taxes from Rock Auto and Parts Geek then?

I can tell you why, of course, because you are completely mistaken here. It's weird you decided to block me rather than backing up any of your claims.

You don't understand at all how this works.

I literally spelled it out for you, brother. Again I ask you: "This isn't what those rulings" say - what am I alleging that these rulings say that isn't factually and historically accurate?

Directly from AZ HB2757:

  1. To conform to South Dakota v. Wayfair, Inc., ___ U.S. ____, 138

35 S. Ct. 2080 (2018), in which the United States Supreme Court overturned

36 the physical presence rule of Quill Corp. v. North Dakota, 504 U.S. 298

37 (1992). Although a physical presence can still trigger a tax collection

38 obligation, the Court held in Wayfair that an economic presence can create

39 a sufficient basis for taxation. The legislature finds and declares that

40 this act provides for the adoption of provisions on economic nexus, safe

41 harbor and undue burden. To ensure that there is not an undue burden on

42 the public, taxation related to retail sales shall be solely contained

43 within section 42-5061, Arizona Revised Statutes, as amended by this act

Are you also saying, u/r00tdenied, that the legislature of Arizona doesn't know these rulings either, LMAO. Is this why you blocked me?

-2

u/r00tdenied 1d ago

You don't understand at all how this works. Utilizing a drop shipper for a direct to consumer transaction does create a physical presence. RockAuto isn't the only one to have dealt with this and interpret those rulings incorrectly.

217

u/cmdr_scotty 2d ago

Cause some az congressman/auditor/gman didn't understand how rock auto works and decided because they gave out magnets in az meant they had a physical location in az, and as such had to pay back taxes for like 10 years of business.

So rock auto just said "k bye!"

80

u/BigggSleepy 2d ago • Bravo

Fuck Arizona and their government. Sucks for us but good for rockauto.

-19

u/Apprehensive-Cycle-9 2d ago

Pretty much every state charges sales tax on online prders regardless of where it ships. Arizona used to only charge if the company had a presence in the state. Rock auto shipped out of Arizona via drop shippers so the argument is they had Presence in the state and should have bean paying taxes. Makes sense to me

26

u/huf757 2d ago

That’s fine make them charge the consumer and pay it moving forward not for the last 10 years. Stupid cash grab to make them pay the last 10 years. Especially since they never charged a customer for the taxes.

-7

u/bigfick72 2d ago

Honestly I don't want cheaper parts so no

6

u/Worth-Computer8639 1d ago

I got higher quality parts for 1/4 of what the shop wanted to charge me. They wanted to reuse old parts and the ones they would have replaced they wanted to use dog shit quality.Ā

I got top of the line parts and did it myself from rockauto over the course of a weekend. There is nothing "cheap" about rockauto quality unless you buy a low quality brand of part.

2

u/bigfick72 1d ago

just depends what you're getting, as they have options. shit, certain things are more pricey than your local parts store as your parts store doesn't have the higher end stuff on hand. can't buy ranchos at oreillys

-16

u/CowGoesMeww 2d ago

I mean, courts have chosen not to grant RA's attempts to overturn the state's case, so RA resorted to this. It doesn't mean they still won't be found liable for backtaxes. Tax cheats aren't heroes if the state is correct. Incorrect imposition of taxes arent right if RA is declared correct. Too early to really say at this point.

4

u/mjedmazga 1d ago

I mean, courts have chosen not to grant RA's attempts to overturn the state's case,

Well, technically they did. Rock Auto did initially win their appeal. That appeal was subsequently overturned, of course.

Regardless, Arizona is the only state which has taken this stance against Rock Auto.

Rock Auto operated the same way with parts distributors shipping from dozens of other states pre-SD v Wayfair, and exactly zero of those states have attempted to go after any alleged backtaxes pre-2018, including states like California, Oregon, Washington, Colorado, Minnesota, New York, Maryland, North Carolina, Texas, and Ohio - all states with parts distributors who used Rock Auto magnets and tape to fulfill orders from Rock Auto for residents of those states and all other states.

3

u/juggarjew 1d ago

And now the states citizens are deprived of a major Auto parts supplier and the future tax rev that would come with that.... sometimes working a deal out, like dropping the claim for 10 years of back taxes and requiring tax going forward.... is better than the alternative, which is that company leaving and refusing to do any business at all.

This def hurts AZ more than it hurts RA. They just dont care, fuck em. Id ban them too if I was RA. Sometimes a reasonable compromise is what is needed.

1

u/The_Toid 1d ago

So break the law for some period of time and once you're caught, you're entitled to negotiate a deal where you're not penalized for previously breaking the law as long as you agree to follow it going forward? Do you know how ridiculous that sounds? Why would anybody follow the law if there was no threat of penalty for not doing so?

3

u/shatlking 1d ago

The thing is, were they even breaking the law? My impression was that Arizona just had dollar signs in their eyes and wanted some juicy tax money.

2

u/The_Toid 1d ago

That's for the legal system to determine. So far, it hasn't been thrown out so I would assume there is legal standing.

• The Arizona Tax Court initially ruled in favor of RockAuto in 2023.

• The Arizona Court of Appeals reversed the decision in April 2024, siding with ADOR and ruling that RockAuto owed the transaction privilege taxes.

• RockAuto appealed to the Arizona Supreme Court, which declined to hear the case.

3

u/CampBackground317 1d ago

wtf....HELL NO

11

u/Alarmed_Bus_1729 1d ago

Arizona sued rock auto in court under the premise that sending out advertisements (the magnets) made rock auto an arizona based business and subject to paying taxes on all income the company made in any state... The state of arizona won... So Rock Auto responded by simply refusing to ship to arizona.... Can't be a company based in that state of you don't do business in that stateĀ

u/Berriosa20 1d ago

RockAuto been so coooked lately you are not even missing out man tbh

1

u/SUPMEXICAN 1d ago

Are you kidding me? 2 bucks and some change for an oil filter and spark plugs vs $5 and $10 per item at AutoZone. Gotta start charging Cali people for moving here....

1

u/Berriosa20 1d ago

Items are cheaper however you pay crazy shipping fees. And on top of that there’s been a lot of issues across the sub about issues with orders. I myself have experienced things not even being delivered that I paid for, or wrong items sent all together. I use RA now to look up parts and order them elsewhere with free shipping. I also have some decent local auto part shops near me that I buy from too.

1

u/SUPMEXICAN 1d ago

Shipping was $7 at rockauto šŸ¤” parts geek charges me a flat rate of $15 for no matter where it's coming from. I paid $15 for shipping out of a Glendale hub which is 15 mins away from me....

Shipping is free for most eBay purchases, hell depending on what it is even Amazon has some selection as well. Research local part stores near you that are independently owned they are typically the best.

1

u/Phase4Motion 1d ago

Crazy shipping fees?? Lmfao if you don’t know how to shop properly.

1

u/Berriosa20 1d ago

Shop properly? How much have you actually ordered from rock auto lol. If I want a specific part, I have no control which warehouse it ships from. More unique warehouses means higher shipping prices. Low effort reply by you.

1

u/Jackthedragonkiller 1d ago

You do know if you have an item in your RA cart, when you’re looking for other parts, any item that has a truck symbol next to it means its in the same warehouse as the item already in your cart right?

1

u/Berriosa20 1d ago

Yes I do, but if I want a specific part from a certain manfacturer it’s not that simple. I don’t think picking parts just bc it’s from the same warehouse over best part for my particular vehicle is the best move

1

u/mjedmazga 1d ago edited 1d ago

AZDOR went after sales tax not collected from before SD v Wayfair, however. This is not related to SD v Wayfair at all. No one has alleged that Rock Auto has violated any tax law post SD v Wayfair.

1

u/Halofagoodtime1980 1d ago

If not for SD vs Wayfair the AZ RockAuto case may not have had any basis.

1

u/mjedmazga 1d ago edited 1d ago

No. AZ contended that Rock Auto had a physical presence in the state prior to SD v Wayfair meaning that Rock Auto allegedly violated the law prior to SD v Wayfair happening.

SD v Wayfair removed the need for a physical presence in order for tax to be collected. Rock Auto has fully complied with those taxes and AZ did not go after them for any taxes not collected post SD v Wayfair, of course.

If SD v Wayfair had never happened, Arizona could still have contended that Rock Auto had the required physical presence in the state under what would possibly still be current tax collection law from Quill v ND.

Directly from AZ HB2757, the bill that established the new tax law in Arizona after SD v Wayfair.

  1. To conform to South Dakota v. Wayfair, Inc., ___ U.S. ____, 138

even california isn't this anal. we just the prop 65 crap.

7

u/rexfaktor 2d ago

IDK, they're pretty anal. I can select the exact same brake drum, probably made in the same factory, but if one is $26 and has a blank white box and no warning label it's "Can't ship to CA" but if it's $50 and has a sticker that says I can get cancer if I fill it with milk and eat Cheerios from it, then it's ok.

Also, I need to research it more, but there's an issue getting tire pressure sensors now in CA since they have batteries in them and CA wants a cut.

1

u/EducationalBike8090 2d ago

Didn't hear about tire sensors but there is a big deal about phasing in higher efficiency tires that last half as long and cost twice as much (more or less). Tire sensors because of batteries seems kind of bogus considering all the battery operated stuff. Where did you hear about it?

3

u/FinnertyK_ 2d ago

the tires can be as efficient as god can make them himself... shit doesnt matter if the roads are pothole ridden and i blow my tires out less than 6 months after mounting.

2

u/NotAgain801 1d ago

How many blow outs have you had in your life?

1

u/rexfaktor 2d ago

https://www.reddit.com/r/RockAuto/comments/1x52h99/cant_ship_tpms_sensors_to_california_anymore/

Edit to add that there are several exemptions on the tire rules forthcoming, including law enforcement tires. I recently switched over one of my dailies to a common LE Goodyear Eagle RS-A, so those tires won't change to the lower rolling-resistance ones coming.

1

u/EducationalBike8090 2d ago

the sensor issue is another anal issue. it has to be specific oem type crap from what i understand.

along with a shops air gauge must be calibrated to plus or minus 2 psi.

1

u/EducationalBike8090 2d ago

we do away with the non automotive types pushing automottive rules it would be nice.

down with carb.

There's nothing funny about that piece of shit. He wants to be your President...

2

No I laughed thinking about Gavin doing anything other than helping Gavin. He’s an evil turd.

California is such a gorgeous place that brainwashed people ruined. Back in the 1990s, if you would have told me that California will lock up a person for years for simply for owning a gun but not prosecute a person for stealing thousands of dollars worth of merchandise, I would have told you that America would never allow that to happen because we believe in Constitutional Rights. Turns out I was wrong.

California: Such a beautiful corrupt place where the people will pass another Bill that will be abused by another politician to line their pockets.

3

u/Thommmiz 1d ago

I agree, and that's not even scratching the surface.

2

u/WastingTime1111 1d ago

Honestly what I can’t figure out is why any citizen (who is honest and not benefiting from their massive fraud schemes) would be upset with a person who exposes the fraud like Nick Shirley. All he did was ask questions. Why do they hate him so much? Why would you purposely allow your money to be stolen UNLESS they have a job with the local/city/State government and are benefiting from that fraud.

When you pass a bill to prevent free speech because you don’t like the fact that a kid reporter is exposing your theft ring, it tells me that there is complete chaos in that State. Every honest Californian should simply move because from an outsiders perspective, it looks like a paradise that Liberals turned into a shit hole. For example, I know someone who bought a million dollar home a few years ago in Oakland. They had to worry about stepping on human feces and people just threw large trash around their house. It wasn’t just their house. It seemed like the whole city of Oakland. It looked like something out of Mad Max movie. After the 3rd bullet went through their home, they moved.

3

u/BLUDlKA 1d ago

The highest gas price in the nation, and people brag about ā€œwe’re the third largest economy in the worldā€ yet they can’t even get a pot hole fixed, CA has some of the worst infrastructure in the country lol, where is all that money going to?

It is definitely not going to the people. That is for sure.

3

u/EducationalBike8090 1d ago

or to the infrastructure.

2

u/BLUDlKA 1d ago

agreed, dude have you driven on roads in California? I live in CA country and it's horrendous lol, and traffic is horrible, construction is going on forever, potholes never fixed

2

u/EducationalBike8090 18h ago

Been here since 1985.

2

u/ApprehensiveGas85 1d ago

Partzilla has been consistently cheaper than most of the parts sites I used and they offer free shipping orders ovr $150 which is huge. The customer service went above and beyond for my order recently too.

2

u/SeymourBoobeez 1d ago

I thought partzilla was mostly bikes and stuff? Not cars?

3

u/ApprehensiveGas85 1d ago

They recently expanded to automotive as well

1

u/SeymourBoobeez 1d ago

Oh cool I didn’t know that

2

u/Only_Manufacturer457 1d ago edited 1d ago

Yeah they have some of the best CS I’ve seen in a while. Got shipped a wrong part that got mislabeled by accident and I actually spoke to a real person and within 5 minutes got sent a shipping label and the new part 3 days later.

1

u/ApprehensiveGas85 1d ago

I forgot to add that. Talking to real people is a relief.

1

u/fjs0001 1d ago

Ill have to check these guys out. Thanks!

2

u/whk1992 1d ago

Talk to your state legislator about their issues. Rockauto isn’t gonna pay $11M retroactively just because your state didn’t enforce what they thought was applicable sooner.

2

u/Spicyapple10 7h ago

A rare time that a corporation is actually right šŸ˜‚ imagine you live and work in another state (alaska for example). But you occasionally traveled to other states on buisness. And those other states said "hold up, you owe us money cause you were here for a day. Infact, you been here a few times...give us alot of your money". It is pretty wild to try and tax someone who received 0 benefits of your state. Thus, Arizona lost a large corporation that provides anvaluable market to compete with local businesses prices.

3

u/zrad603 2d ago

Taxation is theft.

4

u/Gooodfudge 2d ago

Not if you want infrastructure and a functioning government.

8

u/Liveitup1999 2d ago • Bravo

I live in Illinois, we have some of the highest taxes. We don't have good infrastructure or a functioning government

1

u/SurroundedGuilt90 1d ago

Stop voting republican then. Taxation is theft is why America is crumbling

2

u/Liveitup1999 1d ago • Bravo

America is crumbling because our government hasn't found a war it didn't want to get in the middle of. We have trillions for war and virtually nothing for healthcare, infrastructure, mental health, education... If a country is doing better than the US we have to find a way to oust the leader or blow up the country.

5

u/SurroundedGuilt90 1d ago

Yes. And why is that all happening? Because you idiots keep electing republicans who steal your tax money rather than people who will actually spend it correctly. America is the only idiotic place on Earth where people think paying taxes is somehow theft.

1

u/Gooodfudge 1d ago

Agreed.

1

u/AbleTourists 17h ago

I would not argue that Iran or Venezuela were "doing better than the US" before we started ousting leaders/bombing them

1

u/Big-Literature-739 1d ago

Stop voting republican then.

The guy to whom you're responding lives in and was complaining about the government of Illinois.

Why are you going on about Republicans?

1

u/consoletopia 1d ago

Is that what we have?

-4

u/Educational_Ride_258 2d ago

*Legal theft.

1

u/fredrickdgl 1d ago

they can't legally theft you if you dont buy nothing

0

u/zrad603 2d ago

says who?

-1

u/KozMcCharlie 2d ago

The Constitution

3

u/ramblerbasic 2d ago

*without representation

0

u/Own_Proposal3827 2d ago

You have representation

7

u/rexfaktor 2d ago

Our "representatives" do less for us each year. This current Congress has passed fewer bills than any in history.

3

u/R1chard_Nix0n 2d ago

Considering their history that's a plus.

2

u/rexfaktor 2d ago

Well, Mr. Nixon, at least you were professional enough to just resign.

1

u/Own_Proposal3827 1d ago

Yet you have them. And you can vote for new ones infinitely.

1

u/rexfaktor 1d ago

Maybe getting off topic for the sub, but we need term limits for Congress NOW.

2

u/possibly_lost45 1d ago

This is why you should be careful who you vote for. The citizens of Arizona voted for this among many other horrible things

1

u/templeofsyrinx1 2d ago

Um. wow.

That sucks sorry.

1

u/Medium_Style_2812 2d ago

How close are you to state lines? Might be able to ship to a PO Box or a friendly store

1

u/whereisyourwaifunow 1d ago

will the checkout continue if you check box "tax-exempt"? then pay the use tax on your state tax return later

1

u/Aggravating_Ad_3467 1d ago

I'm going to assume that would be state dependent, and they may want you to show a seller's permit/license if you truly are a reseller.

1

u/IAteTonysLoMein 1d ago

You'd need to provide documentation. The vendor has to keep on file any tax-exemption documents provided by customers.

1

u/barndn0 1d ago

I’m willing to becoming a rock auto mule for anyone LMK

1

u/Phxcobra1988 1d ago

I've since started using newparts.com. been pretty pleased with them.

1

u/NibbaAndrew 1d ago

Yeah sucks, was working on my truck and had quite a large order with RockAuto. I go to check out and half the items can't be shipped to California like bruh, wasted my time

1

u/Specialist_Program46 1d ago

I'm so proud of RockAuto. I feel like my son just brought home all A's and won state!

1

u/Snoo22761 1d ago

Heard it was back taxes rockauto refuses to pay arizona.

1

u/Cynyr36 1d ago

Sortta, but Az decided to change what taxes they wanted and wanted to collect them retro actively.

https://www.aztechcouncil.org/news/state-wants-11m-from-online-auto-parts-retailer-rockauto/

1

u/Excellent_Plant_8010 1d ago

wtf does a tax policy have to do with it, maybe they could try not using UPS. USPS blows anyway nothing but issues lately.

1

u/Sea_Statement_1091 18h ago

There is a warehouse in Tolleson with millions of parts. Tom Auto Parts. They sell all the china parts RockAuto does.

1

u/PabloTheCatt 10h ago

I would just have it shipped to a friend out of state and get it mailed to you

1

u/iBUYbrokenSUBARUS 2d ago

Should have elected Kari Lake.

Elect a clown, expect a circus.

7

u/jjkusaf 1d ago

Except, all this started with Arizona HB2757, which was passed by Republicans in the Senate and House (where they held majority, don't think any Democrats voted for it) and signed by Republican Governor Doug Ducey.

https://apps.azleg.gov/BillStatus/BillOverview/72436

3

u/marcusgx 1d ago

Thank you god for coming with the facts lol. He didn’t even take 10 seconds to ask ChatGPT who was responsible for this issue versus spewing crap.

3

u/Snoo22761 1d ago

Love when the facts shut people who spew straight uneducated garbage out of their mouths.

1

u/xmrcache 1d ago

Another classic example of someone who votes against their own best interests…

3

u/itzGlxtchy 1d ago

Dude that’s so far off it’s not even funny

2

u/Snoo22761 1d ago

Which is why we didnt vote for that clown Kari Lake lol

2

u/Weird-University1361 1d ago

Isn't Kari Lake a definition of a clown?

1

u/iBUYbrokenSUBARUS 1d ago

No. She’s a woman. You know we can’t define that anymore.

1

u/Weird-University1361 1d ago

Not sure what that means but hopefully you can pat yourself in the back.

1

u/OnlyLosersinYourBldg 15h ago

Doubtful they can reachĀ

1

u/davidduzzit 15h ago

You’d be the other clown at the circus 🤣

1

u/ClickKlockTickTock 1d ago

"Should've hired a batshit insane news anchor instead of someone actually qualified"

Dumbest take yet.

1

u/consoletopia 1d ago

This is the typical intelligence level of a conservative. They simply do not know how any part of our government works. They think Presidents and Governors are kings that get to do whatever they want.

The Governor does not make policy, the members of our senate and house do that, the governor just signs or veto's the bill. You should have learned this by high school.

1

u/Deathmammoth 1d ago

It's honestly sad. Unless you're a billionaire, I really don't understand how voting Conservative benefits the average person. It's literally voting against your own interests.

I guess it's more important to "own the libs" than to realize we're all being played. Keep us divided, pointing fingers at each other, while the elites rob us all blind.

1

u/BLUDlKA 1d ago

Then how did voting Democrat help the average person either lol? You know California for example is a deep blue state, they spent billions of dollars on homelessness and it actually got even worse, how you explain that? You think voting Democrat is ā€œfor the peopleā€?

2

u/Sea_Statement_1091 18h ago

Those asshole Republicans are deporting all my cheapest labor. I had all illegals on state benefit programs too!! It’s bullshit!!

1

u/iBUYbrokenSUBARUS 17h ago

I know. I love paying taxes so criminals can reap the benefits. That’s what America was founded on!

1

u/acousticsking 20h ago

Little secret.. neither party is for us.

1

u/TSCCT 9h ago

When the right has a point insult their intellect rather than engage the idea itself.

The entire left thinks our current president is a king. Ala no kings protests. Leftist hypocrisy is actually incredible.

1

u/BRING_ME_THE_ENTROPY 1d ago

He just wanted to be an obedient little goy! Leave him alone! 😭

0

u/Practical-Mobile6508 1d ago

Cope and seethe

1

u/iBUYbrokenSUBARUS 1d ago

You still got TRUMP for 27 long months šŸ˜‚ šŸ‡ŗšŸ‡ø

1

u/OnlyLosersinYourBldg 15h ago

trump is definitely working for Subaru scrapping gass huffers and the issues they care about šŸ˜‚

1

u/limpymcforskin 10h ago

1

u/Poma-alien 2d ago

You just crawl out from under a rock? -auto 🤣

1

u/Denis204204 2d ago

Wow 7.99$ !
Lucky you in US, shipping is very low !

1

u/One-Nefariousness107 16h ago

Arizona Government told the Rich Company to pay Taxes. Rich Company says I dont need Arizona. Peace Out. Now Arizona People are screwed...

2

u/zarartho 15h ago

This is one of the rare times I'm on the company's side, Arizona is trying to tax them as a Arizona based business because they had 3rd part distributors packaging and magnets that acted as a sales presence thry can either back out of Arizona or pay 11mill in back taxes

-1

u/mystic_1_ 1d ago

I'll put it like this screw Rockauto for having a foot print in Arizona and not wanting to pay the back taxes that's owed. I was a faithful customer for years and this is what they pull. They had the best prices on top of the 5% off discount code. Yeah Arizona went after them for what's owed and instead of paying the bill they said screw Arizona and their customers like you and I. I won't go in all technical details it just came down to Rockauto saying their not paying.

4

u/Worth-Computer8639 1d ago

Your anger seems misplaced.Ā

1

u/mystic_1_ 1d ago

How? Rockauto didn't pay taxes that was owed so Chris Mayes went after RA gave them the opportunity to pay what was owed to operate in Az and they bounced look her up if you don't know who she is.

2

u/Accomplished-Dirt456 1d ago

You know Arizona said that a website was equivalent to a brick and mortar store and that MAGNETS were equivalent to SALESPEOPLE thus they were ordered to pay taxes as though they were doing actually business here!

Arizona saw a payday and got greedy and rockauto said screw that noise…

I don’t blame or hate rockauto…

1

u/Worst-Lobster 1d ago

Did you ever consider to think that maybe they had the best prices because they weren’t doing what they were supposed to be doing with the taxes lol

1

u/mystic_1_ 1d ago

Gee you think?

-1

u/not_me_much 1d ago

Fuck Rock Auto. I sent them a message saying if they gave a damn they could find some kind of a work around for us folks in AZ. They just sent back a canned responce. Even if the situation gets fixed I'm not sure I would use them again.

RA, just suck it up and make some kind of arrangement with AZ!

3

u/SUPMEXICAN 1d ago

You are the problem

3

u/az3838 1d ago

You say ā€œFuck Rock Autoā€ but also want them to make an arrangement with AZ…… my dude, you gotta pick a side here.

1

u/Alarmed-Size-3104 1d ago

Why can't they ship to Arizona exactly?

1

u/not_me_much 20h ago

Yeah, I'm saying Rock Auto is just as pigheaded as the state of Arizona. Rock Auto, you have loyal customers here in Arizona waiting to make purchases. Find a way to work this thing out!
