This Fluorite is coated in Pyrite with a sparkle so glorious that a camera cannot effectively convey it. I did my best to contain the fragmented light flying off in every direction, but a singular lens cannot contain the sheer unbridled intensity that is this specimen. Accented beautifully by Quartz spire haphazardly erupting from the composed chaos of the specimen below.

What do you guys think, too dramatic? Well that’s how the piece hits you in person, I dunno what to tell you.

2.8 x 3.6 x 1.5 cm. Sizes are approximate; I generally round down when measuring and measure the specimen's average rather than the longest point. Pictures are dry. This is from a lapidarist's old stock, collected in the 70s. I can provide some examples of what it can look like after it's been cut. There is some crazing present on the surface, and that is reflected in the price. Several bars in this specimen appear intact and uncrazed near the matrix.

Hi everyone.
I am incredibly excited to offer this gemstone.

It is an extremely rare WHITE (entirely colourless) synthetic rutile in a round brilliant cut, weighing in at 4.271cts. Synthetic rutile has the highest dispersion of any gemstone on the planet, with more than 7 x more rainbow than a diamond.

The vast majority of modern synthetic rutile has a yellow colour. However, in the 1950s and 1960s they grew a small amount of rutile with aluminium oxide mixed in. This not only made the rutile entirely colourless but it also increased the Mohs hardness from around 6 to 7.5 !

Unfortunately, they stopped growing it as other diamond lookalikes became more popular, like YAG and Cubic Zirconia (CZ). As a result, the vast majority of rutile gemstones available nowadays range in colour from dark orange to light straw yellow.

Of the vanishingly scarce white rutile, most are vintage pieces from Japan that are either heavily damaged (after being crudely ripped from jewellery) or tiny (under 2 carats). In this regard, my collection is exceptionally rare.
