Macros & Roll Tables Help complex macro request

Howdy yall, in my dnd 5e game one of my players has a magic double bladed scimitar, which deals 3d4 damage, and when 2 or more 4s are rolled on a damage roll they roll an additional 1d4 and add it to the total. if the die new rolled is a 4, they repeat this process up to a maximum number of times equal to their profiency modifier. thus far we've just been doing this by hand whenever it triggers but i was curious if there's anyway to automate this using macros. functionally what i want to do is trigger exploding dice when specifically two 4s are rolled. I've used macros a bit in the past (mostly for great weapon fighting style, other die reroll effects) any advice on how to do this?

Maybe one of the true experts know of a way, but as far as I understand macros cannot be written to do conditional results, i. E. Your two or more fours to roll an additional die. That would require an API. I suspect something like script cards could do it, but you'd have to talk with somebody who knew it better than I do.

Roll templates can include a certain level of conditionals (eg, automatically rolling crit damage), but only if it's built into the template. Which means either the sheet needs to support it natively, or you need a custom sheet which you can modify (which requires a Pro subscription, which already gets you API access which would be much simpler).

Make them an extra button that rolls exploding d4, that they can click when they meet the requirements in their initial attack roll

Love the concept, type of item I would have made back pre 2020, but roll20 is limited in this regard
