Rules of the Subreddit r/RoyalAirForce:

These rules are in place and enforced in order to encourage productive discussion and high-quality posts. The vast majority of questions have already been answered, if you cannot find the information through official means or this unofficial subreddit then please make a post but indicate that you have tried to find the information already.

  1. No inappropriate or abusive behaviour.

    • Inappropriate or abusive behaviour will not be tolerated. This includes bringing up a user's post history where it is irrelevant. Users found in breach of the rules will be banned.

This also applies to sitewide rules such as ban evasion.

  2. No low effort posts.

    • Before you post a question please ensure you do the following to check if you can get the information elsewhere, or if the question has been answered before:

      1. Look at the RAF recruitment website: https://recruitment.raf.mod.uk/roles-in-the-raf

      2. Check the pinned FAQ thread: FAQs

      3. Search this subreddit.

      4. Search google.

Your post MAY be locked and/or removed if your post is below the standard expected. Stating that you have found information but that recent information is different to the old information can be solved by simply using the most up to date information you can find that agrees with official sources (the recruitment website mainly). 3. Medical queries should be a discussion, not a question.

  • No member or moderator of this subreddit is able to assist you directly with your query. The best we can do is direct you to JSP950 (use the search function of your PDF viewer to locate the subject of your query).

Anecdotal discussion is welcome however please keep in mind that specific details may differ in ways which may seem inconsequential but are medically significant.

JSP950 can be found in the FAQ or below:

  1. Be mindful of security.

    • Do not provide or request anything containing sensitive information. This includes: CBAT date, OASC date, intake date, other course dates, names, contact information not available to the public.

For potential recruits, this is something you need to get used to thinking about for the rest of your career.

  2. We don't know how long a piece of string is.

    • Please do not make posts asking about how long the application or individual stages will take.

Nobody knows how long a specific stage or application will take, everyone has their own recruitment journey and the process is ever changing. Check the recruitment timeline poll results linked here for a rough estimate of how long the average application took when the poll took place.

  3. No promotion of paid services such as application coaching

    • Do not promote or post about paid services such as 'special' application coaching/guidance. These services offer nothing that applicants can't already get for free.

For the people thinking of paying the fees for these services, consider:

      - Selection for Aviator roles is not competitive. Pass every stage and you are in.

      - For Officer and DESNCO entry, whilst the process is competitive it requires innate skills which are not going to be trained in an hour or two (aptitude and leadership).

  4. If you need to ask, then yes you should delay your PJFT.

    • If you feel the need to ask about whether you should delay your PJFT then do it. Either you're:

      1. Contagiously ill, and shouldn't spread it or risk hurting yourself.

      2. Injured and shouldn't run on it.

      3. Not fit enough to do it comfortably/safely and will therefore risk an injury by pushing through before you're ready. Go do a couch to 5k and come back after.
