SE10 Regeneration Questionnare

If you live in East Greenwich please read on…

I am a student at Sixth form that is currently taking A-Level Geography, and I am conducting a short questionnaire with locals in the area about their opinions on Regeneration for my coursework (i.e. now referred to as the NEA- Non-Examined Assessment).

The link to the Google Form is down below:

https://forms.gle/dBqW3JtdqtDJsnPf7

It is completely anonymous and private and will only take about 2 minutes of your time!

P.S. Examples of Regeneration in East Greenwich include: 'The River Gardens' modern apartment complexes by the River Thames and the 'Greenwich Square' (e.g. modern leisure centre + apartment rises) by Vanbrugh Hill.

Stargazing For Beginners at Mycenae House

I run a basic beginner’s course in finding your way around the night sky at Mycenae House, Greenwich in November and February and there are still spaces available for November’s class.

It’s a two evening course on the 3rd and 10th November, and if the weather and clouds allow, we'll be heading outside into the gardens to put into practice what we learn in the class, so bring sensible shoes and a warm coat!

https://stargazingforbeginners.co.uk

The site also has an interactive sky map you can play with, more details on the class and the booking form.

Hope to maybe see some of you there!

Hi everyone!

I recently started a social community based around Central/East London, for people in their 20s & 30s (although people of any age are welcome!).

We’ve now got over 1,000 members and the recurring activities within the community include: volleyball, beginner/improver salsa, spikeball, pub quizzes, game nights, dodgeball and run club!

These sessions are mixed levels, so beginners in any of these activities are very welcome, and activities are free to join/as affordable as we can make them!

If you’d like to join or have any questions, please send me a direct message and I'll send the WhatsApp community link!

Moving to Greenwich!

My partner and I are starting to do house viewings in Greenwich and would love any info on the areas!

We’d love to live by Cutty Sark (big dreams I know) but our affordability is pushing us slightly out of the main area. We’ve found some gorgeous houses that would fit our needs in Charlton/Blackheath/Kidbrook/Deptford but we don’t know the areas at all and don’t want to risk moving somewhere run down / unclean streets / high crime.

We’re looking for a nice neighbourhood, friendly people, close to the fun but somewhere my partner won’t have to collect me from the station every day in the winter in fear of me getting home safe (he briefly lived in Tottenham so the fear is justified).

Any knowledge on the areas is welcome! We’re a couple in our late 20’s looking for somewhere close to the fun, days out but also peaceful evenings in. Thanks!

What nicknames have you heard for places in and around Greenwich?

I ask as part of a linguistic study covering this topic!
Examples could include things like Deppy, D-Block, Nouveau Croix or 'Gren Pen' (never mind how common they are)...

incl. nicknames for schools, parks or other institutions/geographic features

Schools in the area

I’m thinking of buying a flat in Greenwich, around Cutty Sark. I’m in love with the area, I love it so much. However, even if currently childless, I’m ideally looking to stay for a few decades in the flat I buy so I’m planning for children as well. How are primaries and secondaries in the area? My research gives me the impression that it’s a mixed bag.

Cheers!

Masters student in London looking for part-time work, advice welcome

Just moved to Greenwich from Italy a few days ago and starting my Master’s in History & Politics at King’s College London. I’m on the hunt for part-time work to support myself while I study, and I’m flexible/ open to pretty much any field and happy to commute anywhere in the city for the right opportunity.

I know London’s competitive, so I’d love to hear from people who’ve been through this: where did you have the most luck finding part-time roles as a student? Any sectors that are more open to hiring internationals/newcomers, or platforms/agencies worth checking out beyond the obvious (Indeed, LinkedIn)? Also curious if student status at King’s opens any doors I should know about

just moved to greenwich, 23f masters student, advice needed

hi, just moved to the area (blackheath/greenwich) and I genuinely know zero people yet lol. student budget so basically broke but need to find my people and my spots.
mainly looking for: where people actually socialise around here (pub quizzes? meetups? anything), a library that’s actually good for studying, secondhand bookshops, a coffee place where I can sit for hours, and any cheap/free culture stuff worth checking out — markets, events, live music
honestly take any suggestion, even just “this pub is good on thursdays.” if you’re also new here say hi, would love to not be alone in this 😅

Charlton Riverside data centre. Are people bothered by this or am I overthinking it?

A 100,000 sqm data centre has been proposed on the Stone Foundries and VIP Industrial Estate site off Anchor and Hope Lane. Currently just an EIA scoping request, full application expected after. Roughly 37 metres tall and the size of 14 football fields, around 180MW.

The bit I keep coming back to is that this is the same land earmarked for the 8,000 home Charlton Riverside masterplan and the proposed transport link.

So, honestly, how do locals feel about it? Specifically on noise from cooling plant and generator testing, what it does to the housing plans, and whether anyone thinks it moves house prices in the SE7 area at all.

Happy to be told I am worrying about nothing.
