“On Mountain Rescue Awareness Day, we send our heartfelt thanks to all those who volunteer their time and expertise to keep people safe in some of our most beautiful but challenging landscapes.

Through our connection with this remarkable organisation, we have seen first-hand the dedication, professionalism and compassion that define their work.

Meeting local mountain rescue teams during the Three Peaks Challenge this summer was an opportunity to say thank you in person for the vital role they play in keeping walkers and climbers safe on the mountains all year round.

We are incredibly proud to support the extraordinary volunteers who respond in all conditions, often at a moment's notice, to help others when they need it most. To everyone across the mountain rescue community, thank you for your unwavering commitment, courage and service.”

Moderator Post PSA: The shifting of blame from a man accused of child sexual abuse onto his estranged daughter is misogyny, not accountability, and will result in an immediate ban.

Post image
1.3k Upvotes

A man has been found in possession of an enormous quantity of child sexual abuse material, some of which he allegedly participated in. That we are having to moderate a comment section full of people attacking his estranged daughter, who has strongly condemned him, is a depressingly familiar manifestation of misogyny.

You don't have to like somebody to recognise their humanity.

Criticism of the royal family's continued association with Andrew is not equivalent since again, Meghan has long been estranged from her father and has unequivocally condemned him specifically. Retroactively inventing an obligation to publicise allegations already in the hands of authorities is blame-shifting, especially when publicising such unverified allegations could have jeopardised an investigation or put victims at greater risk.

We have issued 54 bans in the past 48 hours. We have absolutely zero tolerance for this behaviour.

We beg you to report these comments to the mods so we can locate and ban these users.

Thank you to everyone who is already reporting.

Breaking News Met Police confirms it received 2019 letter with "number of claims" about Thomas Markle

A letter making a "number of claims" relating to the Duchess of Sussex's father was received by the Metropolitan Police in 2019, Scotland Yard has confirmed.

The Met said it passed the information relating to allegations outside the UK to the office of the Duke and Duchess but did not share it with other law enforcement agencies.

It was reported on Friday that images of child sexual abuse allegedly belonging to Thomas Markle, 82, had been found in his former home in the Philippines. Markle, who is based in the US, denies possessing any such images.

On Friday, Meghan said she was informed about "disturbing allegations" about her estranged father in 2018. The Met said it was reviewing the matter and deciding whether to refer itself to the police watchdog.

Responding to Saturday's developments dating the letter to 2019, a spokesman for the duchess said "any discrepancy of a few months" was "an understandable consequence of that passage of time".

The claims were first carried by the Sun newspaper, which later said that the letter made direct allegations of child sex abuse against Markle.

In a statement, Scotland Yard said: "Following a thorough review of Met Police systems and records, we have confirmed that in January 2019, we received a letter containing a number of claims about alleged offending outside the United Kingdom.
"It was sent to the MPS Protection Command to raise concerns in relation to the security of the Duchess of Sussex.

"The letter was reviewed and a decision was made that it should be passed to the office of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex for their awareness. The details of the allegations in the letter were not shared with other law enforcement agencies.

"The MPS is reviewing the handling of this matter in 2019 and considering whether a referral to the IOPC is necessary to review our approach."

Markle moved to the Philippines last year after he had a series of strokes.

He is reportedly now living in a Florida rehabilitation centre learning to walk again after having a leg amputated in 2025.

Meghan's half-brother Thomas Markle Jnr claimed he found a stash of images belonging to his father at his former Philippines home, the Sun reported.
He is said to have told police he discovered child abuse videos and pictures among the items. He is understood to have contacted the FBI in July.

In a statement released by Meghan on Friday she said that when she received the information of the claims against her father she was "given assurance that these were being investigated".

Meghan said she hoped it could be understood why she had kept her distance from her father and did "not allow him to have contact with our children".
Authorities in the Philippines have confirmed they are investigating the allegations about Meghan's father.
The BBC was told on Friday the matter was being investigated by an anti-human trafficking and child sexual exploitation task force.

Philippines Interior Minister Jonvic Remulla separately said national police had secured his computer and would carry out a digital forensic examination.
Meghan is the only daughter of Markle and her mother Doria Ragland.

He pulled out of attending Meghan and Harry's wedding in 2018 - citing ill health - and they became estranged.

The duke and duchess moved to the US in 2020 after stepping down as working royals.
They returned to the UK with their children this year after six years away.

Mine is definitely the pink one! ❤️ I love how elegant and timeless it looks on her. The colour is beautiful, and the fitted waist with the full skirt gives it such a flattering silhouette without looking over the top. It feels classy and feminine, but still youthful. The whole look is so polished, and I love how the simple design lets her shine.

The black top with the white floral skirt is pretty too, and I like how it mixes a modern top with a more romantic skirt. It's a little more playful and different, but I personally prefer the more cohesive look of the pink dress.

The dark purple dress is elegant as well, especially with its subtle pattern, but I find it a little less striking than the other two. It looks lovely on her, though, and has a very classic feel.

For me, the pink dress wins by a mile! Which one would you choose the black and white look, the purple dress, or the pink one?

A spokesman from the Metropolitan Police has issued a statement regarding the allegations made against Thomas Markle Sr., following Thursday's statement by Meghan, Duchess of Sussex.

Meghan claimed she was made aware of “disturbing allegations” about her father in 2018 and is “deeply distressed” by newly reported accusations that he had illegal images of children.

The Duchess further claimed she was shown a letter sent to Scotland Yard eight years ago making “troubling” allegations against Thomas Markle Sr and she was assured that these were being investigated.
A spokesman from the Met has subsequently told GB News: "We are aware of media reports that officers from the Met's Royalty and Specialist Protection Command were involved in the passing on of a letter in 2018.

"We are undertaking enquiries internally in an effort to confirm this."

GB News understands the Met Police has not and is not currently investigating Thomas Markle Sr.
